Am I able to switch to another eligible phone as a replacement?

I have recently signed a contract with Orange for £25 a month with the LG Viewty Smart GC900. A 24 month contract. Less than three weeks into having signed this contract, the phone is completely unresponsive, disabling me from performing even the most basic task as making a phone call. The phone is rendered useless and there's absolutely nothing I can do with it. I haven't dropped it or exposed it to sun or water damage - the fault is not my own. As I was under the impression that the phone is covered by a 12 month warranty (and perhaps even in the home insurance policy my family have taken out, who we will consult in due course) I figured I could call Customer Services and have a replacement phone sent out to me. However I'm not overly keen on having another phone of the same type - the Viewty has caused me nothing but trouble since day one, the features which were advertised are, in reality, poor and don't function as well as they should and it's really not the phone I thought I was signing up for when I put pen to paper.
The Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition is also eligible on the same £25 a month contract at no extra cost and I am wondering - since Orange will have to send me a replacement phone anyway - whether or not I would be able to ask for a different model altogether. It will come at no extra cost to the company and as far as I'm aware doesn't breach the terms and conditions of my contract. The SIM card can be used in any Orange phone (and regardless, I can pay a fee to have a phone unlocked which would ultimately be cheaper than having to pay for a brand new handset) and I will be continuing with my contract.
Are there any possible get-out clauses or loop-holes in the system I could use to help me to influence Orange to allow me to do this? Is it possible in the first place? What can I do?

We recently had a phone on our Verizon accout go bad and they are replacing it. If the phone is only a few weeks old I would take it back to the service provider and ask. There is no harm in doing so as many of the phones are covered under a 12 month warrenty. Explain to them your fears of replacing it with the same phone and see if they can possibly change it out for another phone. Some places are much more likely to work with you to keep you as a customer. If you do not get the response you are looking for you may also want to call the customer service number. Phone services are very competitive and will often do what is necessary to make you satisfied.
