I don't hate flying, but I would rather drive. Running around airports is not very thrilling, especially if you need to travel at mach speed to get from one gate to another. So far, I have always been lucky enough to make all my connections, but it has been close! Then there is the sitting and waiting when you have a long wait between flights - now that is just the pits. Recently, it has been 2 hours in Chicago and not being able to move about for fear of losing my seat in the waiting area. That means not being able to go to the bathroom or nothing. The flight itself is probably the best part of it - a chance to sleep and if it is a larger plane, stretch out and relax. I look forward to the soda also. Smooth flights are also good, rough ones scare the tar out of me!

I love flying. The last time I flew was from Idaho to Los Angeles and I had a layover in Salt Lake City, Utah. The great thing about waiting three hours between flights was the fact that there was a three year old boy who was so excited because it was first airplane ride. He went to every row in the waiting area telling everybody he can fly like a bird. When it came time to board the plane I had a window seat and he had an aisle seat next to his mom. He came over and asked me politely, if he could come over and look out the window after we take off. I told him to ask his mom first. His mom thought it was great that I was willing to let him come over and look out the window. After he looked out the window he went back to his mom, grabbed his book and brought back to me. He and I read together.

I hope he remembers also. I didn't mind him looking out the window and I liked spending time with him. He was so polite, always said please and thank you. He loved seeing the cars, he kept asking me if he could play with the toy cars that were below him on the ground. I always have a soft spot for kids and love helping them whenever I can. I remember once last year and once a couple of weeks ago I was in Walmart and there was a child ahead of me who wanted to buy her mommy a gift and she was 10 cents short. Both times the child started to cry and I had the dime each time so I just handed it to the cashier so they could buy their gifts. It did prevent from getting a candy bar, but I did not care it was more important to see the smiles on the kids.

I don't mind flying because traveling by plane is the most convenient way to reach far away destinations. I went to South Africa earlier this year. The plane took 12 hours. I wouldn't have been able to do that journey by land and sea because it would have taken weeks rather than hours. I have only been on one flight that was bumpy due to rough weather. The other flights I have been on have been fairly smooth. I find the airport security annoying. I feel that the economy seats don't have much leg room. I prefer to travel by train if that is possible.

I used to love to fly. I loved the whole travel experience but then airlines crammed in more seats, security grew tight making lines appear everywhere, and since I had kids I don't feel safe flying. I would rather drive if given the option and it is feasible. Rough flights scare me as well.

Yes, I love to fly. It's been a long time since I've done it, though. The last time I flew anywhere was 1976 when I went to Miami Beach, Florida. I especially like taking off. I think that's so much fun! When my parents and I flew to Europe in 1973 with a tour group, we flew from Bangor, Maine to Brussels, Belgium overnight. We were supposed to fly from Brussels to London, England. However, we had to wait six hours because the flight we were supposed to take went to Madrid, Spain instead of Brussels! Talk about a long wait and most of us were so tired because we didn't get much sleep the night before! Kathy.
