We have snow days here. If the snow fall is really bad the kids get to stay home. Rarely happens here where I live but every year it seems afew states get snowed in really bad until April or so. I like the four seasons but Winter and Summer are not my favorites at all.

i agree, summer and winter can be a pain. from what we could understand it was the small schools, don't hear much about the schools in town. i'm hoping they don't do it to often, for the rest of the yr. but if a fire goes through here all you can do if find a ploughed or something nice and green if you can find one paddock and stand in the middle and watch it go past.

Hi Wease,
My kids love hearing those three magic words like yours plus there will be a follow up one? "will you stay" mom? for them if they don't have classes mom will be home too and no work in the office too. They love it when i say YES, I'LL STAY. We used to have this kind of announcements for typhoons and floods.

this is the first time it's happened to me, my son was not going to be at school today as we were going to visit his nanna in hospital. where she is is about a 3.5 hr drive away, and we fund out 2 nite that she'll be down there till wednesday now.
apart from that if it were a normal day, at home my son would have either come with me or gone with his father to do things round the farm.
i remember wishing we'd get the day off school when i was younger, but we didn't cause we had air con at school.

...That is so sweet of you and your son to find time to visit nannah. At least you are there to spend the day off school with him for a cause. That's is so lovely too hearing that they have this bonding time as father and son in the farm. He is so lucky for having a loving and responsible parents like you! Hugs to mom and your baby!

My daughter is in first grade. At this point in the school year we have had no days off due to weather. But she did say yesterday that she wished it were summer. Why I asked. So I can sleep longer!

O yes you are right about that, that 3 words are a gift from heaven for children. They are always praying and wishing for that word. But the problem is that, they are being less productive and the knowledge that they should be gaining for that time is being missed, so i think no matter how they wish for that word, we should teach them not to like that word and teach them to concentrate on their studies for their future. Remember, the children are the future, that is why it is best for them to learn that at this every age.

Hi weasel, I think you'll hear a lot more of this before the summer is over. Music to the kids ears I bet. Fortunately, I'm too old to worry about school or children now.

we've only got till mid december left of school. the kids get a week off before christmas. we've still got 2 weeks of swimming with school as well, but the best news is it's drizzling here at long last!!!!!!! we've not seen rain in i don't know how long, but's it's kept up since i started work this morning.
i found when you don't have anything to do with school terms, you lose track of it all.

Wow I guess that kind of threw out your plans for the day .If I was a child though I would have been elated to hear that statement as I wouold be getting another free day but for the parent that could turn into an headache as you now have to make preparations and accomodation for the child for that day .Hope everything went well though and you were able to amke it through the day and comfortable find a place for your son

we were already taking our son with us so it wasn't a problem, other wise if we were doing something else he could have gone to my mums. i'm lucky i can take my son with me most the time, but it was also my day off so that's why we're going to visit his nanna.

True. Any kid gets so excited when he learns that classes are suspended.Everyday, my kids have to carry their bags which are too heavy with books. They get too exhausted. All they want is for Friday to come or an announcement of No Classes Today. I wish these people from the Dept of Education lessen the load of young children.

This is a message that I remember looking forward to when I was a little girl, and now I see that my daughter looks forward to it as well. The reasons that schools here will be closed are typically during the winter time when the weather is bad, snow or ice usually, although sometimes extreme cold will do it as well.
We don't get calls from the school telling us that they are closed, but rather we find out by checking on either the local news channels or the schools television network.
