Are there topics here at mylot that you deliberately avoid because you know your opinion would be controversial, and you don't want to start an argument?

Ive caught myself doing that. There are just certain issues that I know no matter how I try to voice my opinion, someone is going to take offense to it. So, I figure its better to just not say anything at all.

Yes, I do; and additionally, I avoid topics which I consider too personal or which touch upon subjects I simply do not wish to discuss in a public forum.

I'm the same way,the ones I feel are too personal or contain subject matter I don't wish to discuss in public, are ones that I choose not to post in. I definitely have things I could contribute to the discussion but sometimes it just crosses the line and becomes too personal. Thanks for responding!:0)

I don't avoid topics because my opinion would be controversial. But I do avoid any topic that asks which is better as something boys or girls.

I don't avoid a topic unless its posted by SOMEONE WHO TYPES LIKES THIS. I just ignore those.

I do the same thing. The subjects that my opinions are most controversial in are also the ones I'm most passionate about.lol In those cases I tend to post my opinion and just not respond to anything negative that is said.

i actually posted a similar question (not duplicate) and while im not going to give the excact question (im not trying to redirect people to my discussion) i asked it when i was upset about comments made about me in a controversial conversation. when i posted my discussion i mentioned religion in it, though was very careful and clear not to be offending anyone of any religion, and later wished i had posted it in a more general way and crazy thing is even though i posed it in such a way as to not offend, the person who originally offended me came into the discussion and started blasting away (i realize because of the original conversation he was upset and i said things that may have been pushing the guidelines (not breaking and being really offensive) because he had me so upset with the derogatory comments he was making towards me and i do regret this and that is the first and only time i have or will be sucked into a situation that makes me say something i will regret later) . Now i will not only be more careful to avoid these discussions but also be more careful in the way i word my own discussions. Im here to love and learn and embrace some new ideas, cultures and people. i love having and giving feedback to discussions and embrace the fact that we all have unique perspectives and opinions. comments by any person that are derogatory, insulting and/or inflamatory do not help any of us and make this experience less enjoyable for everyone (i was in tears over what this person was saying. Peace and love to all using this site the way it was intended to be used thanks for the great discussion you started +
