Same problem like yours. So I am in search of opportunities where, at least a small group, I can speak on a small topic or a big matter. Any way I don't know when it will come but still I am waiting

hello vijayanths!
i guess, i am not really good in public speaking! haha my voice will sound differently and i always feel some butterflies on my stomach!
but, even if i have such fear, there are times that i can overcome it,there's one time in my life that i host a party (my cousin's debut) and a singing contest for kids in a place where i use to work..i'm glad that all those turns to be a success...
i guess, my affiliation to a theater group in the university helps a lot...but that was before. coz now, i think my stage fright already comes back! huh!
like you i can speak well in an informal talk with other people, but when it comes to stage...not really!
but my husband...he's very good in public speaking...

Yes I envy people who are good at public speaking. I know I can speak much better than many and I can make people laugh and think as well if I could let it go....

hello vijayanths...
well, practice can help i guess...
coz i always saw my husband practicing a day before or even few hours before he will speak on public... and on my part, i also do the same, lots of preparation...hehe
but, i know you can do that...chance is all you need and you can overcome that and prove that you really have such skill...
thanks for br, i appreciate.

no chance to perform on stage ..but i think i wont be that afraid...if i am facing many people..if i am right and perfect in what i am saying or doing in front of them no question of fear....but if i dont know abt the topic and i am suddenly told to perform or speak....then maybe nervous.

Did you watch "Pretty Woman"? Well, do you remember what Julia Roberts said as she was leaving opera! I would like to use that expression here. But it wouldn't go with my image of being "reserved". LOL. So let me elaborate for your benefit. I am terrified! I am happiest with one is to one relationship. :)

I love public speaking. I think its so much fun. I used to be really shy and hated public speaking. But once i get used to it, I began to love it. I enjoy being on stage now.
I believe anyone can learn to enjoy public speaking if they put practice into it and i speak from experience.

I was not once not good at public speaking. Whenever I stood in front of crowds of people, I felt very tense and would begin to stammer slightly. And because of that, I almost lost confidence in myself, thinking that I was born with no eloquence. But nothing remains unchanged. When I graduated from college, I had to find a job. Facing the harsh reality and fierce competition before me, I realized that I must stand out or I'll never be able to find a job. It was interesting that the work I wanted to do was to be a teacher, which certainly needed eloquence and confidence. It was from that since that I encouraged myself to be confident. I told myself that I could be a good and qualified teacher, and I could stand in front of the whole class without stammer and nervousness. Finally, I did overcome my nervousness and now I no longer get butterflies in my stomach when speaking publicly. Nobody is, I believe, not good at doing something, as long as he/she tries to do it.

Hi vijayanths, I'm not sure if anyone ever loses stage fright completely, but it certainly gets easier after you've done it a few times. I would say that you are doing fine. I don't do much of it anymore but I know that I could if the opportunity arose. I guess confidence comes eventually but being as relaxed as one would be when talking to some friends at home, that is not easy to achieve. Blessings.

Yes, you are absolutely right that no one could lose stage fright completely. I thought you are good at that.

As teachers we are always on stage, observed, scrutinised, analysed, criticised and assessed by our students and administrators. We have to overcome stage fear and adapt ourselves to situations. It is not just about delivering subject matter, but also about class control and student discipline. There are many who think that teaching is an easy profession, but I tend to disagree. Not all are accepted by students as teachers. Some teachers are respected and they have little problem in class control and student discipline. However many cannot take pride in this profession. They find difficulty to make the young minds accept them as teachers due to lack of the know how in tackling the problems associated with the tedious task of teaching.
The moment a teacher steps on the stage, the pupils would have had a first impression of the teacher. Positive qualities in a teacher is not just understanding, compassion, consideration, sympathy, generosity, patience etc.... knowledge and the ability to impart it in the best way possible to promote further learning is an added asset.

Hi vijayanths, I have a very acute case of fear of public speaking. I try very hard not to put myself in any position where I am expected to do so. Even in groups with friends I am usually quiet and do not like attention drawn to me. If I must do it, I usually have extreme anxiety where my hands and whole body will shake and my voice will have a tremor to it. I will break out in a cold sweat, and people can see the beads on my skin. I feel light headed and my heart feels as if it is pounding so loud that everyone can hear it and I feel nausea. When I was in grade school (elementary school) I had to give a book report and I got in front of the class, looked up and just started laughing because I was so nervous and I kept laughing until I started crying and I then sat down because the teacher told me to. I have never lost that feeling, that uncontrollable nervousness and hysteria building up, although I do not laugh til I cry (unless there is something funny going on) in front of people anymore, I also will very rarely be expected to speak in front of a group.

i hate public speaking...
i'm totally not like to do that and i hate people that forcing me to do that..
i know it's important but not for all people..
the important thing is able to speak individually with others..
that's what i'm thinking..

Have done several public speaking on my entire life, but still the stage fright is there. People may not notice it but deep inside, the rumbling of my stomach and the pounding of my heart seems endless even if the speech is done. The only way to make it better is that I use my fear to a positive one. That is making it a tool to accomplish the speech. How? For example, if I knew that my hands are shaking, instead of making it steady, I would make gestures and move it left and right depending on the speech. Walking in front of the audience make them see that I am very rehearsed and confident with my speech. There's so much other things you can do with your fear and turn it into positive ones.

I can speak fluently even in front of public. I have self confidence to do it. But i have to admit that sometime the audiences can't understand what i was talking about. Some of them told me that i used uncommon words frequently. Some said that sometime my speaking was too abstract.

I am exactly opposite. If I could speak in public then I would do it with substance and quality.

I also have the same fear. Even at class I was confident with my report but presenting it to the whole class where I wans the only one in the middle creates a fear in my system. I can talk but unfortunately I perspire a lot which irritates me. That irritation can cause a failure of comprehending my report through my classmate. What i fear the most in public speaking is the volume of people listening to me. I can't breathe and i loss confidence whenever I see their reaction. I know I am just being negative by my performance but I can't help it.Too glad in my job I do not have to do it.

I have no problem with public speaking. I used to sing and dance in front of people so after doing that talking in front of people comes pretty easily. I used to be a Tupperware Lady so I used to talk in front of groups of women all the time and sometimes men. I was also a Girl Scout leader so I was always up in front of them talking. I was also on the debate team in high school so public speaking does not bother me in the least.

Hi, v. Although I passed Public Speaking in my senior year in high school, I am not one to stand in front of a crowd to talk. Sometimes, I feel that I might get nervous when I only have to send someone a simple email.. I am still shy. I get nervous very easily and I can hear it in my voice.. This will never change for me..
