Have you ever thought of how many candles would you like to have put on your birthday cake to represent your age? Why? Would you mind telling people your age?
Chinese ladies are not very open to tell people about their age. Minority of them would not mind doing so. What about you? What is your nationality? What is your gender?
I do mind telling people my age as a Chinese lady. However, after I have met many foreign friends, I think I have got use to their culture. So, I have changed a bit.
Welcome to write your own thought and let us do a small research on it. Thank you in advance.

I'm a white/hispanic female going to celebrate my birthday on Monday and I will be 53 years old. I have never felt any reason to lie about my age because I don't look my age. Depending on the size of the cake I wouldn't expect anyone to put 53 candles on it. That would be fun though trying to blow all those candles out.

jewels49,
Your reply makes me so happy. I kept smiling when reading it. So, let's buy a bigger cake to put the candles, and choose the one with a harder bottom to support, like putting more digestive or oreo as the base. Give a big blow and see how many candles we can reach. Glad to talk with you. Have a nice day!

Hi, a. I was planning on putting 31 candles on my Birthday cake. I sometimes don't like telling others my age. Many people think that I look good for my age. They think that I am much younger than my actual age.. I am African American mixed with Indian descent. I am a female. I have not had a Birthday cake in a very long time.

hi agonyaunt69! Welcome to mylot. It seems that you are loving it hereAnyway, I'm from the Philippines and most of us won't care as long as age is concern when putting candles on the cake. But nowadays, there are lots of candle options that you can choose from. Just like the number "24" to represent your age and that is with 2 candles only, not the whole 24 candles anymore.
Well, i guess this way is made for the cake to save space from the candlesGood thing that you have change your culture a bit, at least, in a good way still..
Enjoy your day!

I like one candle only... I think, many candles are for child only :)
Honestly, I'm one of the thousand girls who prefer not to say age. It's because I'm shy and most of my crushes are younger than me.. hehe

raisinwine,
Just do what you are happy with. I have never put the same number of candles on the birthday cake according to my age except when I was very very small. Moreover, I do not often have a birthday cake during my birthday. Nothing is a must.
Be happy!
Have a nice weekend.

I am a white female from the united states. I am 26 years old and I would expect one more candle on my birthday cake. You have 26 candles to represent your age and then one for good luck for the next year. I think woman in the U.S. are more comfortable with sharing their age because we realize that age is just a number and you are only as old as you feel. My grandmother is 73 years old and she wouldn't think twice to tell people that because she looks amazing and is very youthful.

junbrown,
Thank you for your comment.
Putting one more candle for wishing next year having good luck, Good idea! I like it.
Usually people look young do not mind telling people their age. It is true. They are proud of it. I am always happy when people saying that "oh! you look much younger than your age." Not just women, men like to be young, too.
Have a nice day! :)

I guess its really up to the person how many candles they would put on their birthday cake. It would be tough for me to fit more than like 20 candles on a cake. Plus it would be expensive to buy so many candles. So we just buy numbered shaped candles. So it would be 2 digits so it would be only 2 numbered shaped candles. Its so much easier.

well you are right about that that chinese ladies dont like telling thier age but I would say not only chinese ladies, eventually all ladies around the world dont like telling their age. But I think it does not matter weather you tell your age or not. what matters is that you are celebrating your birthday and you just need to enjoy the moment.
