Sometimes I think my husband has lost his ever loving mind. I was cooking steaks on the grill when he called (he is a truck driver). I asked him to let me call him back when I got finished cooking. He asked what I was cooking so I told him. His response to me was, "you're gonna eat that." So I simply replied, "No, I'm gonna cook it and feed it to the dog." Then he said, "She will love you forever when you do that."
I love my dog too but she isn't gonna get a steak that I just took off the grill. Really, what was he thinking? I love my husband, but come on, are men really that lame? Sometimes when we are talking on the phone, I wonder if he just says thing like that to see what I will say or he that is what he really meant to say.

Really I think he was retaliating back at you, for not talking to him 'immediately' when he first called,! He may have wanted to talk to you real bad, or he was just being selfish, and not considering others' feelings! In other words, he had a chip on his shoulder, and he lashed out at you!
That has happened to me (ex-truck driver), when I am having a bad day, or something has gone wrong!

i think your husband just went back at you.. and maybe was a little upset that you wanted him to call you back.. maybe that was his only free time to call you and thats what you told him to call you back.. since he is in his job so then maybe their is a limited free time.. and he is using his spare time to call you.. i think that was just one way of coming back to you for what you told him.. i think he didnt mean it anyway.. :)
