Some of you know of the insane seven-year-long journey I've had trying to get disability insurance from the government, money I worked almost 40 years to get. Seven years it took the Social Security Administration to finally see what all the doctors have been saying, that there is no way I can work.
Well, they finally approved me WAY back in August of this year. I JUST received my first monthly check this past Wednesday. Of course, they took out TWO MONTHS worth of Medicare premiums, totalling almost $200.00, from that check, telling me that I qualified for Medicare back in September, although I didn't get a card or even KNOW that I had Medicare until last week.
But, that's not the kicker. Here it is: I just received a letter from the Social Security Administration today, telling me that I must contact them as soon as possible if I am to qualify for SSI, or Supplemental Security Income.
Now, get this, SSI is for people who do not qualify for Disability Insurance! I DO qualify for Disability Insurance and was approved for it back in August! I even got my first check on Wednesday! WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS CRAP ABOUT SSI??????? I never wanted SSI!!! For seven years, nothing has been mentioned about SSI!!!
Oh, not only that, but they sent it to my old name, not my married name. My name changed back in 2005 and I informed Social Security of this when it first happened. They've been sending me mail to my married name for years now and all of a sudden, it's back to my old name???????
AAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and that's not all! Yesterday, I received a letter from the Bureau of Support Enforcement (child support collection agency), advising me that my case is being closed since my ex owes less than $500.00. According to the information on their website and my records, my ex still owes me almost $14,000.00 in arrears! They just dumped it all in the trash since they can't get him to pay!
So, guys, if you have court orders to pay child support, just don't pay it. If you wait long enough, they'll just throw the case in the garbage and you'll owe nothing.
How's that for a kick in the head? Our great and mighty government can't seem to read their own records. Or, they don't care about mothers and children, only about deadbeat dads. Or they make things up moment to moment. I can't believe the utter stupidity of our government!
I have my work cut out for me now, just trying to straighten out their NEWEST screwups! I'm totally flabbergasted!!!
Do you have any stories of how utterly stupid your government is? I'm talking about things that make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I'd LOVE to know that I'm not the only one. I'm feeling awfully paranoid right now because I feel like they've selected ME to totally and utterly destroy my sanity!
Whew. Sorry about the rant. I just cannot believe how many errors the government can make with one human being! Please tell me it's not just me, okay? Please?

I think you're familiar with past hassles I've had, but I have a new hassle with SSA again and did a discussion about it here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2181784.aspx
No--not really...I'm talking about what you said about SSI is for people who don't qualify for Disability insurance. SSI is actually for people who haven't worked or don't have enough work points....I DID work, but it was deemed I didn't have enough work points to get straight SSI-D---I don't know if you're friends with her here...Opal? You should only know what hassles she's going through with SSA as well

Hi pye. Yes, I know of the horrors you've been dealing with as well as Opal's. I wish there was something we, as a group of "dissatisfied customers" could do to make a change but I think it would entail firing every government worker, all the way to the top, and having new applicants take I.Q. tests and it being mandatory that they have at LEAST a triple digit I.Q.!
I know all about SSI, actually. My sister was on it. I may have not worded it quite the way I should have. I can tell you that, at one point, when I was trying to get a new lawyer after my old one dropped me as a client simply because I lost the first hearing (BECAUSE of them), I was told that, if I had to reapply for disability, I would not qualify for it and would have to apply for SSI since I had not worked in 4 of the last 5 quarters, or something like that. But, I would not qualify for SSI, either, because of my husband's income. I left that lawyer's office in TEARS!!!
Why they're talking about SSI now, with my case, is a complete mystery, especially after I've already been approved for disability AND received my first check! Also, why did they all of a sudden forget my married name??? The total incompetency is mind-blowing!!!
I'll check out your discussion as soon as I respond to this one.

Honey, I can't even go into all the cr*p I've gone through with these people. Still yet, your mountain of cr*p is way bigger than mine. How you have any hair left I don't know. I would have pulled all of mine out by now. Just today I had a serious situation that I needed to have taken care of. But because of a Medicaid doctor (who only sees Medicaid patients), I was not allowed to get it taken care of. It's a long story and I'm not going to go into it. But I feel like they've tied my hands. But I can't even imagine dealing with the mountain of screwups they've dumped on you.

I was wondering why my hair was getting thinner and there are gaping holes where my scalp is shining brightly! Just kidding, but I do have a problem with bruxism. I clench my teeth together when I'm stressed. I've been doing that so much in the past few years that I now have damage to my teeth! It has gotten much worse this past year.
I should sue them just for the principle of the matter. They've caused me to have more medical problems (and medical bills) than I should have!
You know, I don't believe any government worker would pick up a paper clip they dropped if it was not in their job description. (I apologize to any government workers we have here... I know that some are very intelligent and hard-working. It's just that I haven't met any them in dealing with my issues!)
I hope you can get your issue straightened out quickly.

It sounds like government for you. You have to do their work for them, if you don't you end up in a big mess. I have it all the time with my son. Good luck in getting it straightened out.

Thank you, Thoroughrob. I know the problems you've had. My heart goes out to you and your poor son!
You're very correct about doing their work for them. For over 20 years, I've been tracking down my ex each time he'd move in order to avoid paying child support. I've even paid money to find him. That is their job, not mine! But, they would never do it. I tracked him down once and learned that he was about to move yet again. I called AND wrote to the child support bureau notifying them that he was supposed to be moving again in about a month. FOUR MONTHS later, they wrote to me and said that he was not at that address and they could not find him.
Well, I suppose I'll be busy next week. I am going to be writing to my congressman, again. Actually, a man from our local SSA office, who has actually been very pleasant and easy to talk with, suggested that I write to the congressman. Each time I have written to him, I have had favorable results. Not always immediately but definitely much faster than if I had never contacted him.

Don't know about that, but when they can't take it away from somebody - like the roomie who is blind but works, they do their damnedest to screw it up. For example, on those months that had 3 paydays a month, about 6 months LATER they'd say - "oh, we over paid you for that month so we're going to with hold that amount this month" - and she'd get little or nothing that month. Talk about having trouble finding FOOD if you paid the other bills!

Wow. Unbelievable.
Although I doubt you're the only one this has ever happened to Marti, I WILL bet that YOUR particular case, would make for a VERY interesting book.
If I were you right now?
I'd be looking for a publisher, and a damn good lawyer to help me sue the government.

You know, that's an excellent idea! I've written a few short stories, a dream dictionary and have been working on a novel for many years now (but am at a standstill until I can decide which way to take the story) and, since I majored in English and did a lot of writing in school, I think I could write a pretty darned awesome book about the frustrations and idiotic people one has to deal with when TRYING to deal with the government.
Of course, there may already be dozens of books out just like that already. You are very correct about me not being the only one. I'm sure thousands of others have had similar experiences. Hmmm... I might just try to get some of those other stories. Hmmm...
You've got my brain working overtime right now.

It might be interesting too, to locate some of those people and have their permission to add their wacky experiences to the book.
You could post a website message asking those people to send them to you, and even start a forum about it; add in a couple of links to "certain" government offices to contact, and see if that doesn't arouse their (the government's) attention.

Wow, sounds like they have really put you through the ringer!! That stinks! I hope that things straighten out easily, I know dealing with the government is almost impossible to do. I have a friend whos ex went on disability and the government said because he was on that he didn't have to pay child support anymore but when she tried to apply for government assistance programs she didn't qualify because they still had it listed that she was recieving court ordered support! She never got that fixed, just had to struggle more than she should have had to do.Good luck to you and I hope it all works out well!

Oh damn it all Marti. However, why am I not surprised? We live in the US of A! Why doesn't any of this surprise me? Because I've seen it time and time and time again!! I honestly think they make these mistakes on purpose so to delay your benefits even longer. They make money off of YOUR money so if they delay it even further, they make even more! Fair? Hell no it's not fair at all!

They'll come after you in a heartbeat if you owe them even one penny, but ask them for money that is rightfully yours and it's like trying to pick up a raw egg with chopsticks!
No, they're not fair to us. However, I have heard of a few cases where they got their money weeks or a couple of months after their hearing. It's not like my disabilities are not real! I can't tell you how many doctors have told them I can't work in these past seven years. Even a rheumatologist THEY sent me to said I was unable to work, yet they still denied me after seeing him!
Now, this thing with the child support. I've had over 20 years of headaches with these people! It's bad enough when your ex won't pay child support, but when you have the government intervene for you, it's just as bad. They are sometimes more difficult to work with than the ex!
You won't see me proudly waving red, white and blue. Nope. I'm ashamed at the way our government treats it's citizens, especially since it's the citizens who pay the salaries of our elected officials AND all those darling "civil servants" who give us such a hard time!
Grrrrr!

I hope you get everything straightened out. I can't imagine all the stress you've gone through and are still enduring because of government red tape and incompetence. It might be worth your while to get a lawyer to straighten all that crap out, it would be better for your health if you can do it that way.

Hi dragon. I've written to my congressman to see what he can do to help. I've asked him if I should get a lawyer because my credit is now shot to heck and I have medical bills in collection now, all because this has taken so long. I can't see my doctor because I owe him money and he won't see me until the bill is paid and, since we're still playing catchup on the regular bills, my medical bills have had to wait. They'd be paid by now if I had received the check for the arrears.
The last thing I was told was that I SHOULD have that check by Dec. 3rd. Right. Sure. I won't hold my breath. My hearing was in February, I was approved in August and here it is, the last half of November and I still don't have it! Of course, now there's this new thing about SSI added to the mess.
The craziest thing about this newest problem is that the letter about SSI came to me in my maiden name, the day after I received my first monthly check in my married name! Unbelievable! They both have my correct social security number so I don't understand why their computer system can't figure out what my name is now. How can they have me in their system under two names with one social security number??? I'd say their program needs some fixing!
Well, I'll be calling them tomorrow to find out how they managed to dig up my maiden name after over 4 years of sending me letters in my married name. I'd LOVE to ask them this in person because I love to see people squirm when they can't come up with a good explanation as to why they did something stupid.
Hmmm, maybe I will go in to the local office tomorrow. But, those people have been extra nice. It's those from the main office that have their heads up their a$$es, and the main office is about 120 miles away from me.

hi I really have not had too much trouble with social security since I got stuck in here. but early when my hubby was alive everytime I got a small raise at the library the ssi people would take something out of his ssi check. so for awhile we just could not seen to win at all. but now that I am here I needed ssi plus my social security to pay for rent and board each month and the administrator here got them to up my 288 dollar payment on ssi to over triple as much so that I not only had enough to pay rent and board each month but the princely sum of one hundred twenty five dollars for my own personal needs.not much but it does help then too I make about thirty to thirty two dollars here on mylot per month.but I have had friends that all had about the s ame experiences that you have had, and made no sense at all what the government did to them. hope you get it all straightened out. good luck.

Thank you, Hatley. I called the Child Support place and they've sent my issue to some department that investigates problems like mine. I was told that they'd have 20 days to get back in touch with me. That will be December 16th, so we'll see. With my past experience at dealing with any kind of government office, I have a feeling it's going to be well over 20 days before they get back to me, if ever. Sigh!
I also called Social Security and got a voicemail. I left a detailed message but, so far, no one has called me back. I have to take my car in today for it's yearly inspection because I forgot all about it until today, the last day I have to get it done before it's overdue. So, I'll be leaving soon to, hopefully, be one of the first in line to have it done because I'm sure I won't be the only one rushing in today to have their vehicle inspected! That's going to be fun. (NOT!)
Once I get home, I'll be calling Social Security... AGAIN... and hope to be able to speak to a human being this time. I just don't understand how they do not know that I have not applied for SSI because it's all there in their computer system! All they have to do is check my Social Security number to know I'm not on SSI and there is no application for SSI from me. I'd also love to know why they used my old name on that letter instead of my married name, which they've known about for over 4 years now. Dummies! But, that's probably what is holding up my arrears check. I STILL have not received it. They told me I'd receive it by December 3rd but I honestly do not expect it before then. They've turned me into such a pessimistic skeptic!
I'm SO happy to hear that you receive more money each month than you actually NEED to survive on. That seems to be very rare with our government. You're also very fortunate to be receiving over three times what you were getting from SSI. I'm surprised a bit because I know others who are not receiving that much from SSI. I thought it was pretty much the same across the board but, apparently not. Maybe it has something to do with the length of time you've been on SSI and the cost-of-living increases. Yeah, I know there won't be any this year but I've already received a check for $250.00 for "economic recovery" and read that everyone on Social Security will be receiving one whether they're on retirement, SSI or disability. Right. THAT'LL go a long way, huh?

Hi Neil. I'm hoping that my latest letter to my congressman will help to speed things up. I was told by a man in our local Social Security office that he can initiate something called a Congressional Investigation to find out what is holding things up for so long. I was also told that, once that investigation is started, things usually do speed up really fast. So, I still have some hope that I'll get this money soon! The latest I was told that I should have it no later than December 3rd but that still seems so far away after waiting for so long!
I will be calling the local office again today to find out what this letter about SSI is all about. I'm sure it was sent in error because I did not apply for SSI. Hopefully, they'll tell me to simply disregard it.
I have also let them know that I do not want the Medicare. I figured out that it will cost me at least $200.00 more per month than the health insurance I have now. (Our government sure knows how to treat people on disability... NOT!)
The man in the local office said he sympathizes and knows this process can be very frustrating. I told him that this goes way beyond frustrating, that I am in desperate need for this money.
I thought for sure that I would have this money by now. I couldn't even imagine it taking this long! But, I'm doing all I can to expedite things.
Oh, by the way, I believe corruption in government offices is universal. Power breeds corruption, I suppose. Sad, isn't it?

Hi Leenie. I'm going to be writing to my congressman this weekend. The man I've been speaking with at our local SSA office has been very helpful, although he can only do so much. He told me to write to my congressman because there is something called a "Congressional Investigation" they start which usually gets results right away.
It's total insanity that it has had to come to this!
As for the child support issue, I will be calling that office on Monday and asking them where almost $13,500.00 has gone. I had a problem like this years ago, when one Order expired and another one was started. Initially, they told me that, once an Order expires, the arrears accumulated in that time are not carried over to the new Order. Once my Aries blood got boiling, they managed to get that straightened out. Looks like they're in for another dose of my Aries temper!
It takes a LOT to get me angry these days but our government has managed to do it on a regular basis for over 20 years. I have more medical issues now because of their total incompetence. I will be discussing this with my congressman and asking him the best way for me to approach this issue with disability.
I have NEVER dealt with the government and come away with a smile on my face, not once! They make it so hard to get what is owed to us that it's a wonder more people don't lose it completely and go looking for assault weapons!
The only time I ever dealt with the government and was completely satisfied was when I got my last divorce. I did it without a lawyer. I got the paperwork, filed them myself, and got my divorce with no problems. Of course, that was the local government and I was not asking for anything financial.
If it means I should get a lawyer to get SSA straightened out, I will. But, I've managed to get this far without one (well, since 2006 when my last lawyer dropped me). Also, when I tried to get a new lawyer earlier this year, no one would take my case because they were all so greedy they wanted a Waiver of Attorneys Fees from my old lawyer, who has refused to supply me with one. I know they are not entitled to a penny since they did nothing to help me get approved and I'm sure the potential lawyers know that also but they need it in writing. Greedy so-and-so's!!! It just pisst me off that they cared more about the money they would be getting than about me.
If my congressman says I should get a lawyer, I will. Promise!

Oh my! Your poor thing, now you’ve got to deal with this latest blunder! It is not just your government. The Australian Social Security does not make any more sense than yours does, believe me! Without going into details the whole system needs to be reorganised as it does not encourage certain people to work because they would be worse off. Each time you call them with a question it is a good idea to call back at least another two times because you were bound to have been given the wrong answer the first time!
I hope you get this straightened out, when will end? I feel your frustration...Good luck...

Hi Paula. You are so very right about calling back a couple of times. I think each person in the government makes up answers on the spot. No two answers are ever the same.
I think I'm very fortunate now because our local Social Security office seems to be employing people who care. They may not have much in the brain department, but they do seem to care. However, their hands are tied right now because they've done all they could as far as getting me the check for the arrears. The man I've been dealing with has sent two "Manager-to-Manager" requests for expediency. At least, that's what he told me. I do believe him. He sounds sincere and I've learned to read a person's voice after dealing with morons for so many years.
I used to live in Baltimore City where it seems no one cares for anyone. Dealing with any government people was horrible! They give you the third-degree if you just ask them a simple question. They act like you are seriously bothering them.
I'll get this straightened out. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't come up with new problems. It seems that is what they do best, create new problems.

That's crazy! I hop you get the dummies straightened out. I waited something like three years before my ex got approved for the disability and my daughter started to get child support. In the meantime..I paide for anything and everything she needed or wanted. When I got the "back pay" they told me I had to account for every cent I spent of it. It was back pay! Money i already spent and they tell me have to account for it? I was pretty peed about that. Still am. I think that a lot of the way they handle things is just nuts! I hope you get it straightened out. You've been through enough with this crap. Take care.

That would be a case where I'd want to speak to someone at Child Support face-to-face. I'd ask them how they expected me to account for every penny, going back 3 years. I'd want them to tell me how to do it. Of course, they wouldn't be able to. I'd just want to see them squirm.
I guess I was lucky because my case was started before they made you account for every penny. I got about $11,000.00 from my ex out of the $25,000.00 he owed about 4 or 5 years ago, when my son was over 18 years old and not even living with me! (I only got that much because he was trying to get his driver's license back and the only way to do that was to pay for a certain length of time.) But, having to account for it, that would have been totally impossible!
I guess I could have come up with receipts for things like dental bills, medical bills, even turned over some food receipts, just to try to account for the money but I doubt I could have convinced them. Good grief! I hadn't heard from or received any money from my ex since our son was 9 years old until I got that $11,000.00 when he was around 20 years old.
Our government needs some serious revamping!

Well like I said before,it took me 6 years of fighting, to get my husband's social security through when he go hurt. What you also don't understand and I know I was showed the piles of paperswork that they have on people that has applied for disability. Some that should be given right away, and tons of it that people that has decided that they just can't work and need social security. When you speak of SSI, don't jump to the conclusion that they don't know what they doing. It depends on the amount of what you will draw a month, as to whether you qualify for SSI also. SSI if your income is low enough, will pay the monthly premeium on the social security. Saving you that money which will not be taken out of your check each month. Medicare don't pay much anymore. You have to get suppliment policies to go along with that to pay for your medicine, and doctor visits. But the SSI is there when you go to the doctor, it pays the co-payment, and any time you are in the hospital, it pays what Medicare don't pay. For instants my hubby had some test, out of the 3500.00 the charged for the test, medicare paid only $652.00. Leaves a bunch that you would be responsible to pay, if you have medicaid (SSI) that picks up the rest of the bill.
I assume that you are a woman, and they don't pay women like they do men, which is stupid because we work just as hard, the laws have not been updated in ages, SSI will also pay you a check each month, along with your SSI, do you really care where the money is coming from as long as you get it. You worked all those years for it. They dont' mention SSI, until your social security goes through then they notify you to come in and see if you qualify for the SSI program. In my opinion SSI is worth more than medicare because they dont' pay hardly any thing any more. You also got to apply to some company for insurance to pay for your medicine.
My husband gets social security disability, make sure you ask them about the QMB program, they won't mention it you have to ask, that is what pays the monthly premeium each month of the medicare, It is around $100. now so that will be more money in your pocket. Because his income is so low, we started out making $1500. a month and was dropped to at that time $602. because of a stupid paper our lawyer sent in that was not correct, but he had screwed it up and they said it was up to him to pay the difference some how because of what he did, right as if he was going to pay. Without the SSI we could not of made it, also if you qualify for SSI, tell they usually go back to the time that it was decided you was disabled, same as with social security and you get back pay from this too.So don't rant and rave about the SSI, it is a good thing to have, and with Obama, taking so much away from the medicare program, now you are going to need this SSI to survive. If you both you and your children if they are under the age of 18 will be covered with medicaid, your children aren't covered under medicare. Just make sure you ask about the QMB program to pay the monthly premimums. (I know that is not spelled right, just got out of bed and don't think meds have worn off yet)
As for child support, daughters ex, owes aroung $15,000. he pays when he is forced. Their son is 22 now and he is still paying on him, he was so far behind. They let him go for a while, but after that he either comes up with the money or they jail him. You should take your records and go to child support and see what is going on.
I know that when you are fighting Social Security it seems like the whole world is coming down on you, my husband doesn't read or write, so all was put on me, they suggested we get a lawyer, so we did, a local one and between fighting him, and the social security board, caused me from the stress to have a massive heart attack. Welived in Louisiana when all this was going on. They would not let us have medicaid there, said we didn't quailfy, although it says on the goverment website, that if you qualify for food stamps in La you qualify for medicaid. Funny 5 years I fought them for me and was told no way, it took me losing my home there to the hurricane in 2005, and having to move to Ohio and as soon as I got here they sent me a letter to come sign up for SSI, hey I worked many years at general motors, but that didn't do crap for me when I became disabled.
I knwo it is a lot on you, seems like the world has come down on your shoulders, but it will straighten out, and things will go back to normal, it is jsut getting all the paper work processed and let me tell you medicaid is way faster in qualifing you than social security is. We got the medicaid check not more than 10 days after he signed up and didn't get the social security back pay for nearly 3 months after he was approve.
Go to the office when you apply for SSI and have them change your name, it no big deal, it just looks like a big deal cause all that you have been trough. I wish you luck and don't give up, now that you are on the files and drawing there is a lot of program you qualify for. Take your timeand look over the medicare suppliments before you take one, I thought you was in Ohio too, i maybe incorrect, but if you are hubby is on Community RX, that is what pays for his medicine, there is not waiting on whether it is approved or not when he goes to get it, some will make you wait up to 3 months before oking the medicine the doc prescribes. Anything else I can help you with let me know, it is a tough battle and yes they are and do stupid things, don't jump to the conclussion that they are wrong till you look at what they offer. They have no reason but to do for you not against you now.

I'm not ranting and raving about SSI. I'm ranting and raving over the incompetency of our government workers! SSI is a lifesaver for those who need it.
I do not qualify for SSI. I was already informed of this by an attorney. My husband's income is too high. The thing I'm angry about is that, now that my SSD has been approved and I'm finally getting the monthly checks, Social Security is throwing SSI into the equation. I know I don't qualify for it.
They sent me a Medicare card without me even asking for it. No letter came with it explaining why, either. I had no idea what it would cost or anything! After going to their website, I learned that I would have to pay around $550.00 a month for Medicare, a supplement plan and the co-pays for my medications. I'm on my husband's insurance already and we're paying about $350.00 a month for the premium and my medication co-pays. I'm sticking with his insurance.
Initially, when I went to apply for disability, they handed me the wrong forms. They had me applying for SSI. Once I got a lawyer, she said that I qualified for disability, so that was straightened out about six years ago, or so I thought. I applied for SSI under my maiden name, thinking I was applying for Disability. Now, six years later, it's coming back to haunt me.
What is baffling me is that my Disability is coming to me under my married name and now they're sending me letters about SSI in my maiden name. HUH???
It has been 3 months now since I was approved and I'm still waiting for the back benefits. The judge approved me for disability going back to April 2000. It will be a huge check and they're having a very hard time letting go of it. You would think it was money coming out of their pockets!
Now, about the child support, my ex owed me $25,000.00 in arrears once our son reached 18 years old. He's now 25 and my ex still owes almost $14,000.00. He's been caught and forced to pay because they will suspend his drivers license each time he stops paying and has to pay a certain amount before they give him back his license. He has driven on a suspended license many times before so I'm sure he's doing it now. The last payment I received from him was back in July this year. That brought the total owed down to $13,775.90. It has been there since with no other payments. Actually, my case with them online STILL says my ex owes that amount. It's probably just a hiccup in their paperwork, but it's just another case of me having to straighten them out. This has been going on for over 20 years!
I know the government has no reason to give me a hard time. It's just that they have. My original application for disability said that they had 120 days to make a decision. That is 4 months. I did not receive a decision for 9 months. It has been like this since it first started. Each time I've tried to speak to someone, they treat me like I've done something wrong or that I'm bothering them, when it is part of their job to answer questions we may have.
I will be VERY glad if the day ever comes when I am receiving what I should be receiving and don't have to deal with them on a daily basis.

You raised another issue that makes my blood boil, enola. They don't care what you need to spend your money on, they just look at your income. I was told by one lawyer that, if I had to reapply, I would not qualify for anything because of my husband's income. I would lose all the money I paid in to Social Security for almost 40 years! Well, I guess I could start getting it once I reach retirement age but, from what I noticed on my husband's last Social Security Statement, they've raised retirement age to 70 now! I don't remember being asked about this. They just did it and we have no say in it whatsoever.
I just learned all about Medicare and know that it still costs quite a lot of money if we're on several medications. The thing I don't understand at all is that the only "free" thing we get from Medicare, whose sole purpose is to help those without medical coverage when they are disabled, is Hospital insurance! They make us pay for Medical coverage, plus have to pay for a supplement prescription plan, and those plans have higher co-pays for most medications than regular health insurance plans! I'm now paying about $60.00 a month for my meds on my husband's health insurance but I would have to pay about $350.00 a month if I went on Medicare! There is something very, very wrong with out system!
All those people out there who are screaming that they don't want to see a National health plan come to this country, well, I just want to punch them in the face. They've obviously NOT had to depend on our government for help and don't care at all about those of us who do. Wait until they do. I bet they start screaming the loudest about us GETTING a National health care program!

It's obvious Marti, you finally got one department to do what they were meant to do seven years ago so now they've got the huff at you actually getting something from them so they've informed all the other deparments to target such an annoying person who finally got the better of them. How dare you. You could be costing vital shuffling paperwork jobs but they know you'll now be obliged to keep their fellow workers busy as jobsworth paper shufflers. All clear now.

Thea, I never thought of it that way!
Yeah, I'm that impudent troublemaker who is causing our "civil servants" so much grief by making them do their job!
You'd think they'd be more than happy to comply with my wishes since it could actually be seen as job security, huh? The more papers they have to shuffle, the more likely they'll be able to keep their jobs in these tough economic times.
Yeah, now that one department ran out of excuses and is finally giving me what I worked for, the other departments have been given the go-ahead to make my life as miserable as possible. How dare me! The impudence! The gall!
Well, I won't give up. I guess they haven't realized yet that I have ballz and know how to use them.
