Ya, we used to have a microwave. It was new with all the gadgets and the rotating plate inside. We could make popcorn in it for movies, we could heat up soup and chili and whatever for dinner the following night. Well, something happened to it. I recall the day. Something arched inside it and it no longer worked. I think one of the kids did it. So now we have no microwave. It is something we took for granded and can't replace right now. What is something you took for granted, no longer have and think of fondly from time to time?

I guess it would have to be the electric can opener. They are awesome..lol. The microwave is more important though because of the fact it can do so much. Defrosting being numero uno..lol. Oh..and baked potatoes. Saves a lot of time. I hope you get another one soon. They are very handy.

Handy in deed! I used to call home and have my daughter put a potatoe in the microwave for my lunch. I lived very close and by the time I got home my lunch was ready. Yum!

Oh, I so know how you feel. I'm unemployed right now and flat broke basically. Since I've been unemployed, my car brakes have went and they're still not fixed for lack of funds, then my cable was turned off so I have no tv right now, can't afford a converter, and THEN my microwave broke..ugh!!!!!! I miss my popcorn! and the convenience of having my coffee heated up plus all the other reasons I used it. So this has been going on now for a couple of months and I still cannot find work here, I'm completely disgusted with everything. And I miss driving my car all over when I need something. Life sometimes sure throws things at ya and it smacked me right upside my head.

I hope you stay strong and are able to find work at some point. Slowly you can get all those things repaired and replaced. I feel fortunate to have what I have.

Speaking of material things........I MISS CABLE TV!!!! Or dish satellite or dish network, anything! We literally live out in the middle of no where so cable isn't an option here, but I'd love to be able to watch some of my old favorite television shows. I've always been a huge fan of Lifetime, The Discovery Channel, and TLC. We only use rabbit ears, so I'm able to watch the local channels including CBS and FOX, but it would definitely be nice to watch something different for a change. I respect the fact that ABC.com and NBC.com lets people watch free full episodes. After a long day, I enjoy being able to kick back and watch some of their shows. Maybe when the economy gets a little better and money is more flexible, I can get some real television going again.

Yes, and alot of the cable stations do the same. I feel well justified in having my cable and enjoy it alot when I can't sleep during the night. Hope you get that soon.

I feel your pain. A month ago my toaster broke and it just mystified me considering it was just a few months old. It was hard to get used to it not working since I always made something to eat with it. I used to use the microwave a lot but after reading how food cooked in a microwave was bad for you (since the microwave pretty much kills all the nutritional stuff in the food,) I decided to just make things with a toaster. Now I pretty much rely on the oven which sometimes seems to take forever to make something when my toaster used to cook it in like ten minutes :(

Well it is good to have options I think. I used to have my toat made in the oven. Doesn't really take long either.

For me, that would have to be my food processor. It just gave up the ghost one day and I've missed it ever since. Unfortunately, they're too pricy for me right now, so I try to make do with my blender (but it's just not the same!!) I hope I can get another one someday, it was very handy, especially when my garden crops come in. Blenders are nice, but they just don't do the types of jobs a food processor can. It's amazing how some of those appliances we just take for granted, and miss them so much when they no longer work.

And when I have these moments I feel alittle guilty. I think of my grandmother who never had such things, was glad to have an electric stove.
