Do you like to be in the spotlight or away from it?

I am not one for the center of attention. Occasionally it happens that I am put there but not often. I fantasize on scenarios where I am but not often even then. I am rather shy and retiring. I like it that way and get alittle out of joint if I am pushed to be there without plenty of notice.

I enjoy attention but not the center of and not for long.

I like the spotlight. Especially when I'm doing something awesome that no one thinks I can do (like Evel Knivel jumping stuff or Lady Gaga playing piano and singing and dancing and every-little-thing-she-does).
That leaves me starving for the spotlight; I mean, Here I am eating and drinking and walking and breathing--things I'm not supposed to be able to do--and Where's my spotlight? Where's my money?

Hello sagnik.
Hmm.. i am quite both. When i was in high school, i wanted to be at the backstage. I never wanted eyes to look on me. I never created something to get their attention. But to my unconscious being, sometimes, i want to be attractive in a way that i am just beautiful not something because of my clothes, or my weird hairstyle but because someone appreciates me. That's what i want.

HI,friend, due to my introvert nature,i lost many opportunities in growing to to position in my career. The total hard work..success..achievements..done by me hijacked by somebody and the total achievements gone into another account, they become heroes. That's why,i resigned and i started my own consultancy...and now i am happy..

It depends why you are in the spotlight. If I made a stupid mistake or am caught lying, then I obviousely do not want to be the center of attention. If I did somthing good, then I would like to briefly acknowledge the praise and attention and then move "backstage" as you say; because if I stay in the spotlight too long, I am likely to say somthing stupid. It is human nature to want to have attention,
but when the attention grows, I long to be away from it, and move into he shadows of...... Shoot, too much attention! :)

Hey, sagnik42
I think I'm a mixture. Usually I prefer to be low key but I like to talk to people and really enjoy it. I won't feel uneasy if I'm in the spotlight.
I think it's just a personal style, a introvert doesn't mean invisible. I guess U must have a strong spiritual side...

I don't usually like to be directly in the spotlight, but I do like to be where I can have a good, clear view as to what is going on. Backstage would be too far away and I'd be afraid that I would miss something interesting. Tell you what. If I see or hear something good, I will go backstage and tell you...hahaha.

I hate being in the spotlight. As a matter of fact I am in a class right now that I will have to do a 50 slide powerpoint presentation and I am dreading it so much. I can talk to a stranger like I have known them forever but I have real issues with getting up in front of a crowd.

For me, I don't really like either of these extremes. Sometimes I like to be the center of attention while there are just as many other times that I prefer not to be the center of attention. I am good with public speaking and I started out on the speech team in middle school, so that was one way in which I enjoyed being the center of attention. I also like to model occasionally as well which is another way that I like to be in the spotlight. However, when it comes to things like school events for my daughter and such, I prefer to stand against the wall.

I too want to stay at the backstage, out of teh spotlight because I am introvert too, and at the same time I don't want to display myself in front of hundred pairs of eyes. I always use to stay away from spotlight and perform my task at the backstage. I want to take credit for my tasks but not in front of everyone. I also like to perform well staying at the backstage

Depends how.
If being in the spotlight is always coming up with something new, work do not know what to do better than the rest, to try to help everybody, and stuff like there's something wrong,on the contrary, is very good .
But otherwise things are, if you feel ridiculous, you want to be in the spotlight ridicule yourself or others,do negative things, you notice that your attitude not bother others, talk too much, too loud and over and wrong.
It is normal that each of us to board her attention, ego flatters us,makes us feel important, loved, listen ... but must also know how to do it, know your limits.

Like you do, I also don’t want to be the center of attention but I do like to be part of something huge. I usually would just like to contribute but will not be at the center stage. There were times that we can’t avoid it like say for example in a class where we have to present or report. I actually don’t have much problem with talking or being in front of an audience but I just do not like to talk much often nor feel comfortable. I imagine that being in the spotlight would feel like everybody’s eyes will be upon you and always watching your every move.

Hi Sais,
You drew the feelings I have, very nicely. I get very self conscious and scared of standing in front of an audience and speak.
You are actually better off than me because you dont have that much problem with talking or being in front of an audience.

It hasn’t actually been that automatic. I believe that persons who are like us (I mean who doesn’t like talking too much) has this problem of standing in front of a crowd. I was just able to develop it because many times we can’t avoid it especially at school. Practicing in front of a mirror helped me a lot because that way I was able to observe my gestures and facial expressions.
Fortunately, we have this program during college that helped students become more confident when communicating whether to an audience or to an individual. It wasn’t easy but I believed that it will give me some hard time later on if I wouldn’t be able to develop it. Even though I can do it, most of the time I’d prefer not doing it.
