I have an advise which is slightly different but useful. Install three browsers, namely 1]Internet Explorer(latest version as long as its free) There are still some old sites out there which work better on IE 6,7 or 8. Very few such sites exist.
2] Firefox latest version. Reason provides better security and stability. Plenty of useful Add-Ons.
3] Opera latest version. Its fast and light on the PC memory.
These three are the top Internet browsers.

i suggest to use Mozilla Firefox.
i hate Internet Explorer 8. and before i have updated to the 8 version, but it turned out that it messed up my Text Edit Box size.
i don't know why.
and plus, i like some free brower and some ones could save a lot of space and cpus.
LOL

Vanillarey, has a good idea, keep IE8 and Mozilla Firefox, on your computer, and you can switch back and forth if you need to! I have to have both, because there are some programs that run only on IE8, such as my tax classes, and then I use the Mozilla for my e-mail pleasures!
And then sometimes Mozilla is acting up and I go to IE, then if IE is acting up I go to Mozilla!

There is no doubt that you should use Firefox.
Firstly, as we all know, IE is for Windows user. So you can image that one day if you change your Operating System from Windows to Linux, what will you do? At that time, there's no IE any more. Instead of that, Firefox could be used in Windows and Linux.
Secondly, there're so many bugs of IE. Many friends of mine offen complain that IE will slow down their system and IE is always crash. But firefox is much better at that aspect.
Thirdly, Firefox is a product of open source community. It's free, not only about money, but also about spirit.
Please enjoy firefox;-)

See in my opinion you should always use FF- no doubt about it.. its fast with the new versions.. its secure and most importantly its highly highly customizable to suit your choice and requirements. If you ever are required to use IE for some sites, you can always use an excellent add-on in FF called IE Tab
