My sister gave me a laptop as a gift two years ago, it was an IBM Model. I had my partner used it. My sister emailed me that she'll be giving me another one. What can I do with the old laptop? It is a bit defective now due to carelessness. But i just don't want to throw it. Any suggestions? Thanks alot.:-)

there are some types and models of laptops that can still be upgrade, so it will work better if not as good as those of new models that came out to the market these days. if you have a friend who have knowledge with computers, you can ask him to personally check the unit so he can see if he can do a little modification.

You should not just throw it out because it contains certain parts which are not biodegradable and some landfill material waste. If you throw it out it would affect the environment. I would recommend selling it on a second to some computer disassembler or even if there is any IBM outlet you can check with them whether they will take it back and dispose it for you in a proper way.
These days in western countries there are Green IT laws which prevent you from directly disposing off computers or laptops due to their environmental effect.
Cheers!

Just keep it and still enjoy it for its capacity. Every thing, man made has limits and the limitation of the thing makes it beautiful and you can still find out that the thing is useful over the years. If it has sentimental values, keep it, if you want to help people be educated in information technology, give it or sell it at its current price value. Having two laptops is better than having none :)

A website engineer maybe use it as a server keeping running 24 hours a day until its last drop of blood is squeezed out. Most people are not that kind of geek.
In my opinion, a computer used two years is inclined to get assorted glitches. It is difficult to sell a second-hand electronic device at a good price. Give it as a gift to someone who is intimate to you or sell it at a low price to your co-worker or classmate who is becoming your future friend may be a good idea.

Hello. What are the specs of your laptop? Are you not interested in selling it? Maybe you can sell for a good price. And oh, Christmas is coming and that could be a very good gift for your Godchildren.
