Do you answer the phone when you get sales calls? Some people don't answer, they just let the machine get it. And they let the person keep calling and calling over and over again, instead of doing them a favor and just telling them that they aren't interested.
What about if there is a company calling your house and it is the wrong number? Do you ever get calls like these? If so, do you answer and tell them.
How often do you ignore your phone?

I don't answer sales calls, I tried the answering the phone and telling them I wasn't interested and all that would happen is they would launch in to their sales pitch anyway and not hear a word I said and then I would end up hanging up on them only for them to call back the next day. So now I don't answer the call.
Now if a company calls my house and leaves a message and it is very someone who does not live at the house. I will call the company back and let them know they have the wrong number. But you have to be careful with this too. I called one company which was a collection agency and they accused me of lying saying I knew who the person was and I was lying for them. Now when I see their number or if they leave a message I just ignore them.

That collection company should be reported. That is considered harassment, and it is illegal. I have been through the basics in collection training when I worked in the auto finance industry, because we had to cross train with the other departments. And if you didn't take anything else from the training, that is one thing that they definitely wanted to prevent because the company can get into serious trouble.
Thank you for your response, and have a great weekend!

Well I wanted to report them because I thought that would get them to stop and after talking to others and researching on the web. I could not find out where to report them. So I was helpless and didn't know where else to go so I opted for the ignore and still do as I get calls from them at least a couple of times a week

It is not right that they called you back after you have already talked to someone else from their company. I wonder if these are legitimate phone calls. It almost sounds like a scam. If you have ever seen the computer system that these people use, it shows every time the number is dialed, and a log is kept of the conversation so that you are removed from the list.
I think it is a good idea not to spend too much time and effort on these people. Good point!

I don't get these type of calls at all. So when my phone rings, I know that it will be from someone that we really know. I guess the weirdest phone call I received was from someone who asked me what TV channel I was viewing and what shows I watched during the week. But no sales calls, or indecent calls in the night.

I will ignore the call if I don't know the phone number of the person calling. Of course, if I find it is a sales calls, I tend to refuse to answer the phone without any hesitation.
You see, in my country, there are many annoying sales calls that are full of our daily life. If I choose to answer this kind of phone, then it means that I may meet some unexpected troubles because most sales calls are boring indeed.
For me, to ignore these calls is a wiser way if I don't want to get annoyed.

I can see how it would be annoying if you cannot get them to remove you from their list. And if you receive these calls on a regular basis that would be annoying as well. I wonder if they will soon have a Do Not Call List in your country.
Thank you for your response in this discussion, and good luck to you!

Funny how you think they are being mean to you. LOL They probably think that you are being mean to them if they got your number from a list of people who they thought were interested. However, if you have told them that you are not interested, then by all means....they should stop calling!

Basically, if I know it is a sales call, or the number is blocked, I will not answer the phone. I don't want to hear their pitch, and it is best that way, so I don't get mad at them.

Well I normally answer all calls even for numbers I odnt know because I believe that it could be a very important call ,its just that the perosn may not have my number .And sometimes I get sales calls ,I will normally listen for a while but I always find a polite way to end the call and tell the person that I dont really have any money now.The thing is that I only have a cell phone and I dont really have an answering machine hence I have to asnwer all call myself

I'm with you on that one ronnyb. I also only have a cell phone. Thank goodness I have free incoming calls. Otherwise, it could get expensive. Especially if you have sales people calling you on your cell phone and using up your minutes.
I also have used the phone at businesses or other people's houses to call someone from time to time. I hope that there aren't people out there not answering the phone because they don't recognize the number when it is me calling.
Thank you very much for your response in this discussion, and have a great day!

I see your point of view. I used to be in sales and I felt like I was wasting my time by calling people who had given me there phone number in the past, but it turned out they weren't even interested. The sad part was after I had called them once a week for a couple of years straight and they finally picked up the phone and told me they weren't interested. It cost me not only time, but also the money of the phone call since I was the store manager as well and the expenses was a basis of my commissions.

I love teh invention of caller ID. If i don't know the number, I don't even bothering answering it. I know that telemarketers are just doing their jobs by calling but I honestly don't wanna hear their spue about what I can win, buy or what I've been entered in.
I've have the same number for the last 10 years and still get people calling here for someone else that I've got no clue who they are after. I just let my machine get a work out day in and day out, at least I don't have to deal with it. Ha.

I'm staying with a friend right now, and that is what he does. It drives me nuts. I guess different people deal with different things in different ways. I picked up the phone one day, and called back the collector who had been trying to get someone else at this number. I told them they didn't live here and to please stop calling. At least that's one less time the phone rings every day. LOL

I typically don't answer phone calls when I don't know the phone number of the person calling. If it's a sales call - I typically would avoid it like the plague. In the few cases that answer or pick up the phone - I let them know that I'm not interested in the product that they should remove me from their list. I let them know that I don't wanna waste my time and that they shouldn't waste mine too.

It is good that you are straight and to the point. I hope they catch on quick when you put it that way. I know sometimes it is hard for me to let people down easy and I might have to get rude on occasion.

In the past I always let it keep ringing, because I could see on my caller ID that it was another Sales Call. I usually don't recognize the number, or it's an 800 number.
However I did put my name on the "Do not Call List", therefore it has stopped many of these calls coming to my home, and the ones that do are usually people I should know. A couple of the calls that I have picked up recently, I found out that it was for someone that had my number before I did.

I love the new Do Not Call List. Well, I guess it isn't that new anymore. But it really puts a stop to anyone calling that you didn't call first. I find it works quite well.

If I can't caller ID it, I won't answer it. Telling some of these places you aren't interested is a waste of time, and energy, they don't care, I think it's like a sport to them, they think if they just keep calling it will wear us down. 40 % of the places that call here are calling knowing I'm on the do not call list, I don't owe them the courtesy of a response in my opinion.

A lot of people feel the same way that you do. If you are on the no call list, I would like to know how they are getting your number. It may be another company that is selling the number to them. Then, they can legitimately call you. It's amazing how these things work. But, if you tell them not to call and they keep calling, then they are breaking federal law!

I usually let the answering machine pick up, and even if I pick it up, they still call my house. So, I think no matter what you do, those people will continue to call despite knowing you're not interested. And what's frustrating is when you tell them you're not interested but they keep talking. At least when the machine picks up, I know I don't have to keep telling them I'm not interested numerous times only to feel bad about trying to get them off the line with me. So, I just let the answering machine pick up; it's the most convenient way for me.

The only time that I will answer the calls is if I did not look at the Caller ID. Once I recognize the number, I will not answer the phone. If a company calls my home and they have the wrong number, I will tell them that they have the wrong number. But, if they keep calling after this, knowing that I told them, I will not answer my phone.. I will just let it ring or I will let the voice mail pick up. If I see a number that is familiar and a company is bugging me I will not answer my phone.

I like to pick up the phone and tell them I am not interested. This keeps me from having them call and interrupt me all of the time. It generally works. I think there is a number that you can call and report them if they keep calling after you have asked them not to.
