The cockles in the shops that you get in the jar are just tasteless compared to fresh from a stall at the seaside.Which do you prefer.

Definitely the fresh ones. The fresher, the better. And that's why I love seafood restaurants the much. Tasteless would be right. I dislike those bottled types. Matter of preference. Now I'm hungry..

jugsjugs please tell this old american that cockles are some sort of seafood, like what exactly? I can imagine canned or jarred ones would not have much flavor. I have never seen a cockle, are they a lot like mussels? I love the flavor of mussels. I pretty much like all fresh seafood.

i dont know what cockles are. i have never heard of them before. but if they are anything like mussels then i am sure that i would not like them at all. my mum is a fan of ban mussels and oysters and she always prefers fresh ones to those that have been packed in a jar or can. to save on price, she buys the boxes of frozen mussels still in the shells from the supermarket.

I prefer the ones that you buy at the local weekend markets...you know that they are made fresh, homemare & VERY tasty

'fresh from the stall at the seaside'? I have never heard of this before. I think fresh out of the oven is best. My grandmother used to have a baking day and she make usually bread and biscuits. Oh, my they did smell good while cooking and fresh out the oven. Nothing better I would say.

hmmm I really don't get this so I can't really say. I guess I would go for fresh as a rule of thumb?
