...well i'm not actually in the parts of the uk worst affected. we have had accidents and road closures here but not as bad. having got used to record breakingly hot summers and cold winters and unusual flooding we thought weird weather wouldn't make people blink but this is becoming serious. now i know this is a worldwide phenomenon so what has been happening in your part of the world?

It is a world wide problem I am afraid and it is sad to think that there are many out there in power who are not acknowledging global warming and rapidly changing weather patterns.
There have been extreme heatwaves down in the south of Australia the last two weeks, followed straight after by record rains. It is becoming hotter earlier in the year here as well and staying hotter longer at the end of summer!
They have predicted that there will be no snow resorts left in Australia in around 20 - 50 years time I think! I heard this a few years ago and cannot remember the exact time frame that they predicted. I hope they are wrong! I love the snow!

That can happen, we have short winters here where I live, but in the south of the country the winters are longer. It gets pretty cold down there with icy winds, but they are getting less rainfall than in previous years. There is one particular lake that I used to frequent regularly when I was younger that has not had water in its upper reaches for well over 10 years. It is located at the foot hills of the alpine mountains in Australia.
This was a water sports haven and the small town revolved around the tourists that would flock there. Now, the town relies on traffic that passes through on its way to the snow fields and other areas for some sort of income. This part of the lake used to have its dry years, but I have not seen it dry for this long in my life!

Hi, jb. Nothing in a change of the weather that is crucial. We did have some rain today, not heavy though. And it does feel cold outside as well. I think that it is still raining, but lightly.. I hope that the rain gives you all a break real soon. If the weather is unfair, it may be happening somewhere else.

I live in the Philippines and over a month ago, we experience a similar situation where the city experienced the worst flooding in fifty years. I believe in global warming and I am doing my part in order to lessen or add on to the problem, like segregating trash and using reusable shopping bags.

We have had some minor weather changes but, nothing really to speak of. Our summer was milder than usual but, supposedly we are to have a colder and wetter than usual winter. I sure how it's not colder than last year since we had a lot of -15 days (our measuring system not yours)

Yes, I've heard about the weather situation and I have seen how bad it is on the news and it's quite bad when I think about it. I live in London and I once travelled to the Lake District for a short break and now some parts are suddenly under water and flooded. There's no doubt that this all relates to climate change and I don't think that there is anything that can be done to stop it now! It's really sad that one police officer lost his life trying to save others on a bridge and it just collapsed under the strain of the flood waters and he was swept away. As bad as it sounds this may be a regular occurance now! Andrew

Hi there, I live in the driest country on earth and it's raining. It has been on and off for about 4 hours. It's not heavy but it's wet and it's very necessary. It's been extremely hot with tempos up in the 50's at times. And it's been very windy...i hate the wind.

For a thousand years is really a long time. In Singapore currently, it's warm and windy. Strong winds, but at the same time, the sun is shining brightly. A lot of times it looks like it's going to rain, but it does not. Kind of not here nor there kind of thing. I really hope for a healthy weather, and I am loving the cool weather currently. Just don't want it to be so windy that people are coughing and getting sick. I pray for the flu and all illnesses to stay away. Let the weather be nice and natural. Hopefully..

We have actually had a pretty nice Fall. I am hearing that all this natural and isn't caused by what our dear Gore says it is . I don't know but it does seem odd. Even that the polar ice caps are normally melting away. Can you believe it? All this supposed a normal phenomenon. I don't think so.

well i pay absolutely no attention to what unemployed politicians have to say. in fact i never bothered watching whatever he produced, however climate change at this speed is almost certainly not natural. and certainly not worth taking any risks with because of a very small chance that it is. check out new scientist or scientific american if you want information that isn't political.
anyway lucky you for having a nice autumn. ours wasnae...

I'll take this as an opportunity to put my views on global warming. It is safer from the ideologues and skeptics putting it here lol.
The last week, in many places in Australia (including where I live), we have had the highest November temperatures since records have been kept, in many places in excess of 40 degrees Cent. (104 F) and in one place 47 C (116.6 F). Over the past decade, some of our most productive agricultural areas have been in catastrophic drought. One area, Melbourne, which has been on severe water rationing for years, is currently under water in its low lying areas.
Unfortunately, it is just as silly to claim these as evidence of global warming as it is to claim that record low temperatures found in some places recently are evidence against it.
The issue with global warming is that it disrupts traditional weather patterns, and if the pundits are correct, it is likely that in twenty years time we will be unable to refer to "normal" weather patterns at all. The real evidence of GW is in overall world temperatures, which are rising, and overall sea levels, which are increasing. Some of the Pacific island nations are in serious danger of total inundation during major storms, particularly at times of high tides. It is likely that there will be catastrophic loss of life in the not too distant future.

lashie - i know that. and the not too distant future in some cases can be translated as 'last year'. or '5 years ago'. however because of certain political and lets face it convenience, views in a certain country a large number of the populace has decided it is yet another konspircay. one that involves just about every government on earth, all the major ngos, all the major religous organisations and the stock market. all of whom have clearly decided to get together to annoy americans.

..."all of whom have clearly decided to get together to annoy americans".
What a wonderful ambition lol.
I would have imagined you are quite aware of the things I pointed out, but perhaps some others aren't, so ..... That, of course, assuming that more than 5% of MyLotters actually read the whole discussion.

Hi jb, we suffered through the highest and longest humidity ever here this summer, and as soon as that stopped went into winter weather. We aren't quite there yet but are almost at a 2 season rather than 4 season level, the two being only summer and winter. We had almost a month of torrential rains at the end of summer and this is not usual. Probably the winter will continue into summer.
From this we can see the changes in wildlife outside, as things come out later but more strong and vicious, and there's changes in the types of insects which would never be seen indoors coming inside. Roads are flooding and causing damage, the sea changes mean that the fishing season becomes shorter as people need to remove boats much earlier. The area could well reach the stage of having no water for the summers, but that is a country issue which should be being addressed by planners to conserve what is wasted by not utilising the winter rains.
Each of these things is becoming more noticeable each year, and the longer colder winters also mean it is difficult for people to actually afford to keep their houses warm or dry as the damp becomes all pervasive and can lead to internal mould which is in itself a health hazard.

we've had various species moving north for years. animals that previously were just not seen further up than the south of england have been making regular appearences, starting with the south of scotland, and more recently further up. nice for us to see them but not on the whole i think a good sign.
this is not either anecdotal or blog evidence. it has been confirmed by scientists with absolutely no agenda and by thousands of people through their own eyes

Indeed jb. I didn't feel the need to seek scientific corroboration for what I can see with my own eyes. I managed my own opinions on these very worrying trends with my own eyes. I have never seen as many varieties of spiders as I have this year which is really odd, where did they suddenly all come from, maybe some mutation to survive the weather, or migration?
@jb78000 (15139)

it will probably be because changes in weather have produced conditions more amenable to the flies they eat so more spiderettes will survive to adulthood, some may have migrated - are they different types of spiders do you think?. or you are not being careful with your waste and are unconsciously encouraging a fly population explosion?

My goodness....I have been looking for 12 Days now to find the plug to fill the HOLE in the sky! It's like everybody up there is draining their bathtubs...ALL AT ONCE! 284ml in 17 hours (close to a foot) Have broken every rainfall record in history...every snowfall (mountains are only 14 miles away) Winds of 160+ khms, so we have been totally isolated for days on this Island! Wednesday morning @ 7:32 a.m. we had a 6.6 Earthquake....and last nite, an unheard (in November) thunder and lightening storm, for over an hour...with a 7.5 centimetre dump of Hail! 12 days of more power off...than on! OTHER than these minor catastrophe's things are pretty boring here on the West Coast of B.C. (Canada) LOL!!!! Hoping this is not a precursor for the next 4 months or so! We're gonna have to learn to "quack!" Cheers!
