Katie was such a wonderful sweet mini Dachshund. She came into my life two years ago after I had to put my Rottweiler Hannibal down. Katie was an older dog and was strictly a "kennel" dog that didn't know the inside of a house until she came into my home. She won both my BF's heart and mine. Then in the past couple of days she went down hill health wise...she still ate like a horse and drank plenty of water but she was kind of listless. Then this morning she couldn't walk and wouldn't eat even her favorite foods. Before I could get her loaded to take her to the vet, she passed away in my arms. I totally lost it!!! She died peacefully, but it still was soooo painful. My other three dogs are mourning the loss, as they were in the room with me when Katie died. Tomorrow she will be buried under the Mullberry tree in my side yard...Katie would love it! Then this spring a white rose bush will be planted in Katie's memory...as Katie was such a pure loving soul...she will be so missed by all of my furry family and my two legged ones too. Good bye Katie, I send you to heaven with all my love.

I am so sorry for your loss. We are still grieving Sable's passing a month ago. So strange how these critters just take over our hearts!

I am so sorry to hear about your little baby. I have lost more than I dare count and it is always hard. Especially those "special" ones. At least it was very quick and she doesn't appeared to have suffered. We must be grateful for those little things. The Rose bush is such a beautiful way to keep her memory alive. She will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. I am looking forward to getting there myself, I have a lot of little critters waiting for me to arrive.

I have lost to many furry friends in my time. However i will never live without a dog in my life, my wife feels the same way. The last , not that very long ago wAs a Bouvier named Gheyske'. She was my lil girl. For the Bouviers that I have she was small in size 94 lbs by the Vets weight for her meds., she was grand and big at heart. She had bone cancer. I was at her side when she went. I will always remember her.. REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PETS, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U...

I am sorry. My dachshund's name is Twinks. I have had her for many years. I know that her time will be soon. I can't imagine what you are going through. I dread that day when my Twinks passes. I am so glad that your Katie went peaceful. I have had a dog that did not go peacefully and it was in the middle of the night on a holiday. No vet would let me get him put down because of the holiday and time.

I'm so sorry to hear about Katie. Those senior animals worm their way deep into your soul so it feels like pulling out chunks when they die. My dog, Cujo, had never been in a house before he came to us, but he's got the best manners of the dogs. Didn't even know what a treat was. And granted, he still spends a lot of time outside in the yard - he was a yard dog before - he is a really sweet little dog - well, he's some where between a big small dog and a small medium dog...

I too am sorry you lost Katie..The white roses are a very suitable tribute for a dog..and I'm sure at some point you will be comforted by the fact that because of you Katie passed away in someones arms and not in a kennel..Sounds like you both found each other at the right moments. again, you have my condolences.

Losing a pet is one of the hardest things. Four years ago I had to put down my 9 year old Golden Retriever because he could not walk anymore after I spent thousands of dollars trying to help him. He had the best personality I have ever seen in a dog and he was my best friend so it was extremely hard...Two years ago I was forced to put down my Pitbull "Capone" after he chewed through the window screen while I was at work and got hit by a car - sadly, he had too much internal damage and the vet suggested that I put him down. I think about him every single day and sometimes still cry. I don't think you actually ever get over losing a pet, time does not heal that kind of pain. Time only heals heartache from a broken relationship, etc...I guess we just begin to realize that our pets who have passed are in a better place and we will eventually see them again.
