How do you deal with stress?

I know that we all have pressures and stress in our lives, but around this time of year it seems to sky rocket more than any other time. There is the stress of trying to get the right gifts for those around us, coordinating all of our hectic schedules so that we can get together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc., along with our regular, everyday stresses. We are constantly bombarded with things that demand our attention. What are some of the pressures and stresses do you face on a daily basis and how do you deal with them? How do you stay sane (or attempt to) in this crazy world? Personally, I find myself stressed on a daily basis for many reasons. I am married with a new baby, working on my Masters degree, working full time, running a photography business, working in my church, spending time with family, friends, and plenty of other things. Many times when I sit down after a long day, I am completely drained. I try to deal with that stress by taking a little bit of time out for myself everyday, whether that means going for a drive, listening to some music, taking a long, hot shower, etc. What are some tools that you use to combat stress?

I do pray a lot and read inspirational saying or quotations from great authors or just anecdotes from the bible passages. it makes me relax and forget all the troubles. It is a stress reliever and keep me tension free. Then, i also like to do a lot of meditation every time i pray to communicate with God asking for direction and some guidance. After prayer, I feel the spiritual blessing and inner peace it calm me. Though, when face with a lot of arguments. I control my temper by staying away from the subject or object of my anger. Then, I just shrugged off my shoulder get away from the situation instead of confronting as when I boil it is very hard for me throw away verbal accusation which unlikely expected of me would ruin only my good reputation. Thus, it is also important to learn deep breathing relaxation or shift attention from other activities to let the optimistic behavior continue and never allow the pessimistic attitude to overshadow your entire well being as it would only result to bad outcomes causing ruin of relationship is at high stake leading to troubles and worries. Thus, it is importance to maintain a cool attitude and let learn to get away from the sources of irritation keeping peace within self lead to real happiness. When you feel good all good things comes as usual..

I have to agree with you on this one. I started going back to churchg these few weeks. I still have heart ache but on this one day I feel no crying. I feel better after I go. I am taking my time meeting new people and maybe just maybe I can really fined a true girlfriend to talk too and I mean really talk too about everyday things and life why people do what they do. Sometimes I feel or getting a sense I belong there and they are freindly group of people. My daughter is flushering under ther care. I need to fined my inner peace I lost over the last 15 years. Inner peace with me and who I am: that I am caring and that I can make a differnce or that I am really needed on this earth for something. I am so tired of working two jobs but it has to be done right now so I am looking for peace within me. Thanks for a very response Sincerley Unique16

I have a lot of ways to deal with stress. I eat, watch tv, go shopping . My most favorite though is swimming. I feel that it relieves me of all the tension in my body and it relaxes my mind.

Hi, scottcoleson! Welcome to myLot!! I deal with stress by praying and communicating with God about my aggravations. I also talk to others about my troubles. I can't keep my sadness boiled up in me. I have to talk to someone. I also like to walk for about 3 miles around the track at the park. I like to be in silence, that helps to ease my tension.

Prayer is a major key to relieving the pressures of everyday stress in my life as well! Even when it seems that no one else knows or understands what I am going through, God knows me and my situation intimately and He is able to comfort me and help me through any situation! Thanks for your response

Good day to you Scottcoleson, Honestly, the only tool I have is the power of prayer. This is the only thing, I used to cope up with stress. I used to say a simple and little prayer for every situation that I encounter. However, dont think that I am a religious person, it is only, I believe that God knows the perfect and absolute answer for every situation that gives us stress.

Hi arasheila: off course, how don't remember praying?. As you mentioned, you don't need to be a very religious person to have a connection with God. It's simple we need Jesus in our lives specially when everything seems to be horrible and that there's no way for us. There's always an answer for those questions that in a point of our lives seems to be impossible. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

Hi scottcoleson! Stress is part of my daily life. Soon as i get up in the morning i am already stressed preparing breakfast and lunch for my daughter. i have to make it faster because her school service will pick her up at five in the morning so i get up at 3:30. After she has left for school, i will hurry preparing myself for the office, but i will clean the house first, put everything in order in the kitchen and the bedroom. Once i get dressed i will take tricycle to the highway then take a ten seater cab to take the train to the office. Taking the train is so stressful because there are lots of passengers wanting to be in the office early. Trains are jam packed and most passengers push their way inside the train. The same thing happens in the afternoon after work. That is why i am saying that stress is already a part of my daily life and i think i got used to it already. I just put on my music in my PC when i am in the office to lessen the stress. If i have a chance, i take a nap during lunch break too.

That does sound like quite the stressful day! I honestly don't see how you can get up that early and be able to function normally! I guess that comes from necessity. I am not a morning person and it takes me forever to get up and going in the mornings. Because of this, my mornings can't be quite stressful because it seems that I am always running behind. Maybe one day, I will magically become a morning person!lol Thanks for your response

Well, I prefer Yoga. It is the best possible way to deal with stress according to me.It just relaxes your brain and body all together giving you the strength and patience to deal with stress, tensions and pressures. I have been practicing it for years now and it has helped me a lot every time I have sorted to it.

I have heard a lot about the soothing and stress relieving powers of yoga but have never gotten the opportunity to try it yet. I would love to sometime though. It just seems like it would be very refreshing and God knows I need that! Do you take yoga classes somewhere or did you read books/watch videos that instructed you on the techniques? I would love to learn more about it!

I do the same as you. When I am in stress, I usually sit alone for a while. Usually I take a cup of coffee since I am a coffee lover. When I am really that tired, I usually go for a massage. Once a month I also bring out my family on a beach overnight or go somewhere with a bit of nature. That is how I deal with stress.

Being out in nature is one of my favorite things to do when I'm stressed. It's great to just get out away from the chaotic things that surround us on a daily basis. I love going hiking in the mountains or sitting on a beach listening and watching the waves roll in. It's so peaceful!

I dont celebrate the holidays so i dont stress about that. Im single and my kids are grown so i dont stress about that. Im working part time running my own business. I have all my bills paid and plenty of extras so i dont stress about any of that. I dont really have much stress if any at all. I talk to my friend Jahovah everyday or nearly everyday. You sound like my daughter. She is always stressed out. Like she doesnt want to feel good or have fun and relax. Maybe she and you just dont know how. I just know everything is in Jahovah's hands and that i will not be put beyond what i can bare. Its just trusting in Jahovah. He is my father and knows what i need.

Well, I think everyone in this world will face lots of problems everyday. Its hard to handle your stress if you do not know how to cope with it. I like to do activity I like when I have stress and I think its make me forget my problems. Also I like to share it with my friends. anytime I have problems I like to share it with my friends. I think it is a good ways to make things get better.

Having friends who are there for you when you are going through stressful situations is awesome! Having the support of others is encouraging and very inspirational. Sometimes all we need to make it through tough situations is to know that we are not alone. There is power in numbers!

when i am overly stressed, i dont eat much. that doesn't usually happen often because i try not to procrastinate and get things done as needed so they dont all jam up on me. other than that i just work hard to get things accomplished so that stress doesn't overcome mylife. people become stressed over stress and its not that big of a deal. just work hard and it all pays off.

I will deal with my strees in different level.Physically speaking.I know I need more rest whenever I feel stress.I will spend more times to sleep and it works for me all the times. And sometimes I will do some exercise to help to release the tension within. In terms of social life,I will go out to have a walk once a while in order to enjoy my life and relax a bit more.See more beautiful things such as the sky and flowers and fishes, etc.will help my mind to stay away the problems that made me stressful.Spiritually,of corse I will spend time to pray and talk with God about the stress that I was facing at that time and listen to how He would response with the Bible and through other ways of His saying.Psychologically,I will try to share my problems with other and listen to their opinion.Although they may not be able to give me advice that I may looking for,but at aleast it is important to get someone to talk to.I think that as long as we love,we will have to face stress whether we are Christian or not.The differences will always be Christian can always seek God for help.

Chewing gum has been proved to release stress. I have tried and even if it doesn't completely work, at least it releases it a little. For me chocolate works. I get a lovely sensation when I'm devouring chocolate. Also -this is better for the end of the day-, enjoy a hot bath. All your body will feel better after that. Unfortunately that doesn't work for the mind.

I loved your response! You definitely can't go wrong with chocolate! There's just something about that stuff that can make any situation much better. A hot bath is also great! Get some aromatherapy candles and some bath stuff from Bath and Body Works and it makes for a major stress relief. Also something that makes sleep even better every night is washing comforters and bed sheets with some sort of detergent that has lavender in it and using a lavender pillow mist. The scent of lavender and jasmine is very relaxing and soothing for the mind and body.

I don't deal with stress very well... I usually argue with people about insignificant things. I play a lot of videogames to fight stress. Not best way to fight it but...

I tend to argue a lot when I don't deal with the stress in a good way! I hate that too! I can see how video games can fight stress. It may not be a great tool for everyone to relieve stress, but for some, it works wonders. I have tried playing video games as a way to deal with stress but I only end up getting more frustrated and stressed. I tend to try things that are calming to deal with stress....that works better for me.

I used to get the same way many years ago before I re-trained into a new career in therapy. I then got involved with Zen and now practice zazen (Zen meditation) every day. No matter how many things crop up during the day, if we can just keep our mind focused on the present moment, for that is all there is, there is no need to have excess stress. We are bound to have some stress, for the is part of living, but it is how we deal with it, that is important. - Derek

I'm getting stressed out just reading what you do on a daily basis! My stress level has plummeted since I took advantage of early retirement but here's what works for me. I grab a book, drive down to Starbucks and take an hour with a good book and a good cup of coffee for myself. If I'm all coffeed out, I go to the gym and either walk/run on the treadmill or participate in an hour long cycling class. Yes, it is true that taking that hour for myself means that something won't get done but the one thing that I've learned is that life as we know it will not end if a couple of things on my to do list don't get done. Good luck to you and I hope that you can find a way to slow down a little and get some "me" time.

I stop for a while, think of what needs to be done and how to finish it in a reasonable amount of time that would not require me to waste time and energy. Once i do, i set my mind on the goal : finish it! If pressure will get to me and depress me more or even take out my willingness to finish my tasks, i always tell myself "Cmon Joan, think how light your shoulders will feel after all of this has been done" I think instead of panicking.

When I face too much preasure, I talk to my friends, listen to music, go out to karaoke, exercise, etc. There are lots of ways to release myself. The best way for me is crying out @ a place where nobody can't see me. LOL
