When do you put up your Christmas Tree?

I see folks on FB chit chatting about putting it up already. It's not even Thanksgiving here in the USA. It doesn't seem right to me to put it up before St. Nicks or the first snow of the winter season. I know some people put it up on Thanksgiving wich I guess is ok. But for me with having little kids that don't understand the concept of DON"T TOUCH the shorter the amount of time it's up the better.

I don't like when people put it up before Thanksgiving because it's almost like they are skipping the holiday of Thanksgiving and jumping ahead to Christmas. I usually put mine up on Thanksgiving weekend because I have Friday off and so I have 3 whole days to get everything up.
Even so, according to our church you technically aren't supposed to decorate that early and they would actually tell you to decorate just before Christmas and then leave your lights up all through January I think. I usually start taking mine down the week after new years though because of convenience and that's how most of society does it.
We can't wait for the first snow because here in MI we never know when that will be :) Some years it snows way before thanksgiving, other year snow doesn't really hit the ground until late December. So instead I always try to get it done on Thanksgiving weekend since I have the extra day off and the extra time.
For your kids - you can do what my mom did last year and only put non breakable ornaments on the bottom layers that they can reach. She also stopped the lights a little higher so they couldn't really grab those either. So the only thing on the bottom of the tree is stuffed ornaments or plastic ones that can't break so it is ok if the kids play with them.

So I thought I already responded to this discussion but I looked through it and didn't see me so I guess I just read it before.
We usually end up putting up our tree and decorations up the weekend after Thanksgiving. I love Christmas decorations especially the lights and to be honest if I could leave them up all year round if I could. We leave them up until the weekend after New Years.

i think the best time to put a christmas tree on display is the middle of November, though i do prefer to put mine out towards the late week in November and that will probably allow me take some pictures and make very ideal decorations on them, i like to design the christmass tree to my taste

Here in the Philippine, we normally start decorating the house as soon as the month starts September. That has been the practice of most of the families here. We do love the season and maybe because that is the time when we feel a little change in the weather, adding decoration will even bring the spirit come alive. But this year, since we are in a global crisis, many delayed the decorations. Like in our case, I haven't really put up the Christmas tree. I have scheduled it on the first day of December. We are also cutting on putting Christmas lights.

I celebrate Christmas with my brother's family. They usually put their Christmas tree up around December 1st. That way they can enjoy the tree all month. They don't put it up before then, though, because they believe on taking one holiday at a time - which means don't start with Christmas until Thanksgiving is over.

I usually don't put my tree up until after Thanksgiving but I too noticed all the chit chat about putting their trees up and saw pictures of some great looking trees and I just couldn't wait.

Hello 3SnuggleBunnies.
Well in our country, we usually celebrate the season quite earlier. 100 days before the real Christmas day. We actually put the Christmas tree right after All Saint's Day or let us say, Halloween. We don't have snow here so we don't have indications if we must put it already. Yesterday, it was the birthday of my grandmother. And she wanted to have those decorations immediately so there. We put it way more advance.

My mother used to put it up on the 13th December, it's St. Lucy if I'm not wrong. That's how it used to be in my contry plenty of years ago, but actually now people put it up much earlier.
Some people already have it up. And now I don't put it up at all, besides now I have a dog and making a tree would be a problem with her around, I don't even feel any need to have it.

We usually put up our christmas decorations most specially the christmas tree on the last week of November. Honestly, here in our country most people do it on september or october because we really give importance to the birth of our savior. Undeniably, we really like this kind of occassion since its only once a year.

We put ours up right after, Thanksgiving. That is if we can hold our daughter off until then. She usually starts in with Christmas around Halloweeen. lol It should be interesting this year. My son will be a year old on Dec 10. Guess I will start the "Don't touch" mantra at that point.

My family never put it up till December 18th and it came down January 1st. I think 2 weeks is just the right amount of time. You don't get tired of it and as others put theirs up, you get the pleasure of anticipation!

Traditionally we'd put it up the weekend after Thanksgiving, to help get in the spirit. But the past few years we've waited a few weeks longer because of the kids. This year I'll be waiting a little longer again. We usually take it down the day after Christmas because of the kids.

Last year, when I had the twins living with me I did not put up Anything until the end of the second week in December. I do not like decorations put up early. The excitement of the event is lost for me. At the end if he second week is what I will be doing this year as well. Actually, this is probably the time I do it every year. Carols are being played on the radio and TV and it gets right up my nose. No carols until December begins would be my rule if ever I was in power. and that is not likely!
