Difficult to explain!

Today me and my three youngest children went to our local town to see the Christmas lights switch on. They were being switched on by Peppa pig and Santa. Everyone was having a great time. When it was all over we headed off to meet my partner as he was picking us up. The far end of town was cordoned off and there was about 20 police cars and an ambulance and the road behind the shopping center was also blocked by a police car. There sitting on top of one of the buildings was a man we assumed that he was threatening to jump due to the police presence. My three year old looked up and said 'Mummy why is that man up there?'Why does he want to jump?' At this I tried to explain to him that the man was maybe feeling very sad. His reply was "The doctors can make him all better if he jumps" At this I was lost for words how can you explain suicide to a child of three. Have you ever tried to explain it to a young child? What would you have said to him if you had been in my place?
