One of our local video stores closed on Thursday. The corporate headquarters came with a truck...loaded up all the movies and shelves and by Friday morning the store was empty. They put a note on the door that if you had one of their movies you are supposed to send it to an address in Oregon! No envelope to return it in.....no paying the postage...you are on your honor to return it!!! Would you return the movie via mail as requested at your own expense or would you keep it? I would keep it unless they sent me an prepaid envelope to return it in!

I would be afraid to keep it. If there is still a corporate office open and the movie wasn't returned, there might be a hefty bill sent. Although it's not the customer's problem to return the video out of state and pay for the postage I would mail it back. Think I would try to call the corporate office and ask them to send a prepaid envelope.

I see from most responses here that a lot are suggesting you keep the DVD---If they really want it back then they should provide a self-paid envelope. It's THEM that went out of business without warning so their tough luck if people keep the DVD

They should send you a prepaid envelope for the return of the merchandise. Hold on to the videos until they contact you (if they ever do). I would worry about them trying to charge late fees for the item.

Well I would keep it until they paid for it's return... or I don't know if you can still send things C.O.D. (cash on delivery) If you can I would do it just to bust balls. Of course if it was a movie I liked then I would keep it until they asked for it. Sounds really strange though. I bet many people will just send them just because they feel it's right... Not me...hehe

Considering how businesses are, they probably have it on record who has which movies still, and would probably have the nerve to send a letter charging a late fee. It isn't reasonable to make someone pay money out of their pocket when the situation is of their (the video store) own making. I guess I'd return it. But then again, they broke the rental agreement, so I might keep the movie on that principal alone.

Is there any way to contact them? Did they give an address that maybe you could write to and ask for an envelope? Sounds really strange, doesn't it? It almost sounds like they went bankrupt and whomever they owed the money to came and got everything. And how do you know they'll credit you and not say they never received it...weird.

No Way! I'd keep the videos, shipping is expensive... plus I'm in NY, Oregon is across the country!

No wonder they had to close, very poor way to do buisness in my opinion. They should have stayed open long enough to let people know they were closing so everyone could return what videoes they had. I doubt they get many back, don't u?

I bet they don't! Who wants to waste their money sending it back....of course for those that are worried about a late fee you could always return it to the place you rented if from...I mean the actual store...if they are not there to recieve it....tough! LOL

Hi jillhill, preumably when you signed up as a member it was to return the video from where you borrowed it from not to somewhere else. It is their responsibility to pay for the item to be returned or just post it through the letterbox of their empty shop. I've no idea what postage is like over there but here it would be more than the cost of the item.

Wow that same thing happened to us this weekend. We rented a video on Thursday, when we went to return it on Saturday the Store was empty. But there was not sign on the door. There is just an empty store.
It was a good thing it was a movie we really liked because I guess now it is ours to own.
I think alot of these company's are having a hard time now that you can either use netflixs or can rent a movie from Redbox for $.99 they just can't compete

Hiya jill,
Personally and seeing what is going on now I would send it Recorded Delivery straight back to where it came from and keep the Receipt till whenever needed and that way you have no comeback on yourself.
That´s my personal opinion and I would also Photocopy the Receipt and keep it in a safe place.
Yes they have a cheek and a lot of it but sending it back although it is very annoying will save you a lot of possible problems that is if they ever wanted to cause any.
Take care now.

Hiya Jill,Whether or not they do anything about the Video it´s alway better to be safe than sorry.
For example all these "silly Calls" that I keep getting are to do with a Man who did´nt return his Videos to a Video Club and they think that because I have his old Telephone Number that I am personally in contact with him.
Can you imagine?
So I told them look when a Telephone Number is given it does not stay with the same House it´s given to other People in other Houses.
What a hard time I had trying to get across to them that Telephone Numbers don´t belong to the House oh boy.
That is another reason why I would send it back.

I'm with you. They Knew they were going out of business. They should have given their customers at least 2 weks notice to come back in and return the movies. They Really screwed up. No one is going to use their own money to send back a video!

I might get online and see if there were a way to request an envelope. But I wouldn't pay for one or postage either. Not my fault they closed the store without notice!

Hi, jill. I would return it to them. Because you may have an account that has to be paid. If they don't miss anything, I will just keep it. I wonder why this company didn't at least try to contact all of their customers informing them that they would be closing the entire business. That way, if you had movies, you could return them. This was such a late notice..

I wouldn't send it and if they ask for it I will pretend the prepaid envelope.
There is just no way I'm going to pay for a video and then again to send it back, if they want it back they'll have to arrange it. It's not my expense.
