The feral gave me a gift!

So, I woke up early this morning. Not really surprising since I slept over 16 hours in the last 36, maybe closer to 20 or more.
But I was trying to roll over, sometimes not the easiest thing, because I had actually thought about getting up.
Anyway, I was sitting on the edge of the bed, and decided that I wasn't ready for "up" yet, so I went to get back in bed and there was a little cat on the end of my bed.
I reached out and pet it. She jumped, then looked at me, then, when my hand had run down to her tail, she ran off.
I had just PET the black feral kitten we call Elizabeth!
I was happy! What a nice way to start the day. Especially this day! Because (now I'm not making this real big) its my birthday. What a nice gift Elizabeth gave me!
Your cats ever give you nice presents? I don't mean the dead mouse either!

Well, you see, back in June we trapped her and her sibs and mom and now have them all fixed. Mom's been out at the horse barn since June too, but we've been living with these feral kittens since then. Only now that they've been fixed are they slowing down at all. She was chasing my feet under the covers the other night - she or her sister are the only ones that weigh that little and she's on my bed more than her sibs. Elmer is a bigger kitten than his sisters.

Happy birthday to you. My birthday is in a couple days and my ex husband surprized me by saying he is going to try to come for a visit, then I'll get to see my puppy. My puppy is my avatar. I miss her so much.

Thank You for your response and Yes the reason is I had no where to go and had to rent at this appartment and they even told me if my ex brought puppy here to see me I will be evicted, but he is very willing to let me see her. Just means I have to go to his place which is 3 1/2 hour drive away so I don't get to go often.

One cat gave me a hairball for Christmas -- Hey! She made it herself.

My first thought was the gift that keeps on giving, another kitty.

hi ElicBxn yes I once had a grey very gentle very sweet cat that would wake me each morning with her paw patting my lips. she never ever scratched me, it was like a piece of velvet touching my lips. she would look right into my eyes and then purr then if I did not make an effort to get up she would give out with a loud meow.It was almost like she was giving me a gift. I had never realized before how very soft a kittens little paw could be.This was ages ago. We had to give that cat to our f riends as we moved to an apartment complex that of course refused to allow pets.
Happy Birthday to you, happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear ElicBxn ,happy birthday to you, and many more. he he he.

First things first...
H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y ! ? ! ?
-makes note to mark this day in FB calendar-
Now, onto the discussion!
Letting you pet her may be the best gift you get today. I bet that really hit home when she let you, Elic. It did with me first time Tigger even let me touch him w/o hissing/growling/attacking. Maybe that small petting is enough for her to realize 'hey, that felt pretty darn good' and will slowly let you start touching her.
Enjoy your day, my friend!

a hiss-free day is always nice..
these guys are still adjusting to the new kitten right now..
usually they re-gift me with their toys in the bed.
or hair bands, milk rings.i usually have to shake them all out before i go to sleep.
it's cute tho.

i have a low table i have to clear out every now and then.
last time i checked, the tux had shoved about 30 toy mice underneath.
he hides stuff from his sister,or she'll sit on them all.

Ah, what a wonderful gift and post.
You had me going there for a minute. I thought for sure that your gift was the mouse that so many cat owners seem to get.
Thank you for sharing your uplifting experience.
Oh and by the way, my cats are always giving me wonderful presents. They're my loyal companions. They always put up with my moods no matter how crazy it gets. They run, play, jump and make me laugh. And the fact that they are there for me, irregardless, is the best present I could ever get. You can't put a price tag on any of that, wouldn't you agree?

Well well, Happy Birthday to you ElicBxn! What a way to start off your day! That's really neat! It put your spirits on the right track right off and now you'll be walking on air all day! lol Oh that's so neat! Maybe the kitten will let you get closer to her in due time for it seems she's trying to trust you but doesn't know if she can just yet but that's a huge start! Happy Birthday to you!!

I rather think that cats either trust you or they don't trust you, they aren't really "tame" like other animals, they are little wild animals who happen to trust you enough to let you touch them...
or some, like Scamp, you have to earn the trust of - my roomie lived with me for several months before she ever saw him!

Wow, I totally understand your excitement. I mean totally. I had a cat, well -actually 2 that were brothers.. although born in my house.. both acted very feral. They did not allow me to pet them, UNLESS I snuck up on them and started petting them.. (they actually liked it, but apparently not enough to become friendly.)
Their names were Ares and No-na me'(yes that spells No name) pronounced no nah may.
No-na-me' was the more skittish of the 2 when it came to "trying" to pet him around the house.. I could actually sneak up on ares more often.
But I was astounded when I had a cat sleeping in my bed and was petting it -and upon fully awakening, realized it was No-na-me'. And from that day forth he came into my bed every night.. Let me pet him- purred and acted like a "normal" cat.
But still NEVER allowed me to pet him anywhere else.
When I moved from my apartment to this house he was no different. Actually came to me less. But I found out he was sneaking into my roommates room and sleeping in her bed.. That was fine by me. I think they all need some kind of love.. Well one day she opened her window and for some reason the screen. And he climbed onto the roof.. Couldn't really coax him in. Eventually he jumped (two stories) but seemed fine.. But never came back in the house.. He got his way and became a "feral" cat.
My neighbor around the corner actually feeds a colony of strays and eventually I found out that he was amongst them and then later his brother Ares and his mother as well- (They came from a long line of ferals apparently as Moms Dad was a feral cat who got my queen pregnant.)
Anyway a couple years went by and they were actually fat and apparently happy they were both neutered so no worries.. Until a couple of neighborhood dogs went on a rampage and started killing cats. They killed 3 that day 2 of my lovey boys and No-na-me', we suspect they got loose again a couple weeks later when 2 of our 15 year old cats disappeared on the same day.. But could never prove anything..
Oops, sorry this was supposed to be an uplifting discussion. Either way My boy was happy for a little while. But I sure did miss petting him..
Good luck with your Elizabeth and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I hear ya - Gizmo comes to bed for pets with me, and he's never been out. Now Star and Ronnie have both escaped, and we've caught Star twice and Ronnie once - thank God we didn't have to catch Gizmo.
Now the young feral cats have been trapped now twice, but the second time I actually ran them into the trap - to be fixed. But we are careful about the doors/windows with them.

That’s a great breakthrough for her to come and sit at the end of your bed and how lovely you managed to touch her. Has she ever been mistreated by humans because it sounds a though she is very afraid? The stray cat that we adopted was very scared, especially of men and these days she is still a timid feline but she is a lot braver than what she used to be and I can actually pick her now. I hope little Elizabeth ventures closer and closer to you.

No, she and her sibs were born in the neighborhood - maybe in the next door neighbor's overgrown back yard (long story and I'm fine with it.) I trapped them and their mom back in June. So, their first human contacts were probably us, but they were so feral to begin with.
Oh, and yesterday (the 24th) the roomie got a pet in on Emily, the other girl!
