Do you use your fork a lot when eating?

I live in England and when we visited some friends in America they could not believe how we eat!! For dinner we would eat the whole of the meal using a knife and fork but they would use their fingers a lot as well. I am not saying we dont use our fingers for pizza and chicken drum sticks etc but we do cut up our sausages when we have them with chips etc. So how do you eat?

In Denmark we use a fork and a knife in most situations. My parents taught me to eat pizza with a knife and a fork, but when I was living in Italy my friends laughed at me when I wanted to eat my pizza that way, because they eat pizza with their fingers. Now I usually eat pizza with my fingers, because I got used to that while I was living in Italy, and sometimes other Danes think that I am being impolite because I don't use a knife and a fork! In Denmark people use the knife during the entire meal. We cut a piece of food and then we eat it, after that we cut the next piece of food etc. I have lived in other European countries and I was surpriced when I discovered that it is considered impolite to eat like that at some places. In some countries they cut all the food at first and after that they don't use the knife anymore. I also found it a little funny, because in my country parents might do that if their children haven't learned to use the knife yet, but adults don't usually eat that way (in Denmark)

England and Denmark are not very different from each other in this respect then. I went to Denmark years and years ago and still have the Little mermaid on a stone that I got from way back then.

Hi, Mallen I live in China and we use to eat with our chopsticks. Maybe you are not familiar with chopsticks since they're different from your forks and knives. Last summer I went to a western restaurant and enjoyed the food with knife and fork. Frankly speaking, it is a little difficult for me to use. but it is a fantastic experience I have ever had.

Hi yes I know chopsticks and in England in some restaurants you are given the choice between knives and forks and chopsticks. I have been shown many times how to use chopsticks but always give up after a while or my dinner would get cold!

Hi, MAlllen400. I usually will use a fork most of the time. This is my main utensil when eating most of the time. I do use a spoon for dipping, eating cereal with and grits. Anything that is mushy, I use my spoon for.

I use different tools depending on what I eat. When I eat meat or pasta, I use a fork, but for many other things I just use chopsticks. Of course, for soup I always use a spoon, but if it's noodles soup I use chopsticks too.

My dad who used to live in the States would often eat his meal with a fork and a knife. He use the fork like a spoon and finishes his meal with it. I am accustomed to using the fork and the spoon. And when these things are not present, I use my hands in eating. It's more enjoyable to eat with your hands if the meal is composed of a rice, grilled pork or sea foods and we dipped it in soy sauce or fish paste with calamansi or calamondin.

I live in the Philippines and we use the fork every meal because rice is a staple in our diet and we use the spoon to scoop it up and we use the fork for our viand. It is really hard to use just the spoon when scooping the rice so we use the fork often.

I think I use my hands and my fork equally as eating utensils. Part of my family is japanese, so sometimes I use chopsticks, too.
