I admit it one of my favorite things to do is just hanging out in a coffee bar or cafe and just watching the world go by, namely well dressed people, or just people that stand out for whatever reason. I always notice people's shoes or nice purses, or I admit being a female I will mentally compare my figure to someone else's. lol It's just fascinating observing the parade of people going by. I like to guess what people do for a living, what is their ethnicity, what brand labels are they wearing, all kinds of things. How about you, do you also people watch?

I like to people watch also. I don't know much about fashion as you must, so I can't guess the brands of their clothes or anything. I just try to guess what they are doing there and what they do for a living etc. I find it fascinating and it really passes the time.

I've thought about this and I think it's because trendier areas tend to be more in larger cities (urban areas), where lots of students, bohemians, professionals tend to gravitate. That's why it makes for great people watching. I find that in the country there is really not much in the way of people watching. Sure you might get the odd person that stands out becuase they're well dressed, or the person trying to make a fashion statement, but the country or even suburban areas are not known for "emerging fashionistas".

It's true the trendier areas seem to have more of a mixture of people passing by. I wonder why that is?

Oh yes, it is one of my favorite things to do wherever I go. People are so very different from one another, and always fascinate me :))

hi ilyzium yes I have always loved to watch people walk by and wonder what makes that man look so grumpy or that elderly lady smile such a big smile,or that little girl giggle so much. we people are so interesting and we dont even realize that we show on our faces a lot of times just what we are thinking.I hate to see elderly people look all grumpy and sour. it only takes 9 muscles to smile and a whole 29 to frown and look sour. as a
woman I too notice clothes and handbags and shoes,why not i may be elderly but I am much alive. Okay a lot of people will say you would look grumpy too if you had my this or that. but honestly by smiling you turn on endorphins in your body that will make your pain less than usual so smile.

Hi Hatley,
Interesting comments I have to say. I too notice those things, when someone appears really upset, what could have happened to make his day so bad. Or when you see those people that seem to have a permanent frown on their faces? I know our faces are really so transparent aren't they? True, lots of people are constantly focused on their ill health, that it's impossible for them (in their minds) to smile, and it IS sad I think. Yes you do seem really alive, Hatley, as well as a very interesting person! I always find your comments quite entertaining. Have a great day. :)

Its a facinating activity . I also like watching people. When I am sitting in a cafe,I like watching people who are hurriedly walking on the streets.I also like watching people, their different activities and and the way they are dressing up,specially clothes,jewellery and make up.
So,I am a same kind of person as you are!!

See and you know what I'm talking about!! :) Yes it is fascinating isn't it, as we're all so different and yet the same at times...I like observing what people wear, and yes their jewellry, what they're doing, guessing as to their occupations, etc. It's a great way to pass the time. I find I often will do this on a weekend. Usually after my workout I have a habit of stopping in my neighborhood coffee bar for coffee and just basically to unwind. That's when I do some of my best people watching.

Yes I admit it I am a people watcher as well like at the mall any of the stores like Wal-Mart Target,e.t.c. And if you notice when you are in some of the stores you can hear their conversations and sometimes it is so funny the things people talk about in the stores L.O.L. :}

There is a bit of me that likes to people watch but I find my self trying not to because i don't want to be rude and stare but of course you always come across those few certain people that you can't help but stare at.
Now my mother in law she is a big peole watcher she will stare until she can no longer, we are always telling her that she shouldn't stare so much but she always says she like it and has a need for it. I catch my daughter who is 8 people watching quite a bit and i always try to tell her that it is not polite but she still does and even at times will point and say something about them and it drives me nuts...she has to get that from her grandmother I always say...
