I have problem with concentration sometimes. I normally won't turn on the radio, or listening to mp3 while I was reading something important, or writing an essay or discussion papers. It was just me for doing something important, I want it to be good and make impression. So, I couldn't tolerate distraction. What about you? Do you okay with it while doing your work the same time, the music is on the background?

yup, I can. I really enjoy it, but only for the slow volume of music or put it maximum. Try it, may be can suit for you. I always do it when the exam is coming, listening music and writing note for read later. Have a nice day.

I have the worst multitasking skills on the planet. There is no way I can do two or more things at once. Oddly enough, it's very easy for me to listen to the radio, or my IPod when i am reading, or writing. It all changes when someone starts talking though. I would have to reread it 40 times, and that's if i'm really really focusing.

I hate it to have to do many things at one time, and I just so afraid to mess everything up. I want to be focusing on one task, and not wanting to do so much things at once. I just want to do it perfect and not make any mistake.

There are times, when I can listen to music or something while reading or writing. It's not always the case, but there are times when I can. It really depends on the time, on the day, and such.

Although I've tried and forced myself time and time again, I simply cannot listen to music whilst writing or (especially) reading. I just find it too much of a distraction that draws my attention away from what I am doing and unwillingly onto the music playing in my head. I find myself to carried away by the beat, lyrics etc., and find it impossible to stay on track with whatever I am occuied with, so I just save the music for long and boring journeys, when I am relaxing in bed, or just when I feel like kicking back and listening to some tunes. Though the fact that I am male may have a natural effect on this, and my ability to multi-task in general.

I have the same problem with concentration and my attention span. When I was in high school, I would always have the television on or a CD playing in the background while studying or doing homework. However, I can't do that like I used to. If I am just reading or writing for fun, then I want to have something to listen to or watch, but if it's homework or something important, I really need to be free of distractions. This is one thing that I struggle with a lot now because I am working on my Masters degree and I have a wife and child so I have to study late at night when they're both in bed so I can concentrate.

I guess I'm one of those weird people who does better when other things are on, like the television or music. Currently, the television is on, I'm listening to music and I'm writing. I have always been able to multitask and still do really good in school and on my articles. I guess we all have a different learning style. Libraries for me are a mind block when it comes to studying for some reason; that's the complete opposite for most people.

I don’t think it’s your particular problem. Most people could not listen to music and really doing reading or writing. I have listened bbc news for two hours. Now I try to reply your topic so I turned off my radio and focused on the writing. I just can listen music when I do house work. It can make me relaxed and feel I don’t waste my time on these things. I’m listening music. Kind of cheating myself.

I played my favorite music whole day as in whole day. And I can listen to music while reading and writing. And not just only that before when I was still studying if I have to memorize something listening to music was my reinforcement in doing so. I know it sound so weird but it's true I can memorize with the music on.

Hi clorissa123, i listen to music all the time, while reading or while writing and at this very moment while responding, i've music playing in the background too. I like soft, classical and country types of music while reading and writing, but when i'm not working i like to listen to pop, jazz and blues too. I don't like the heavy metal types of music as it causes some sort of mental anxiety when i listen to that sort of music. The habit of listening to music while working is based upon one's own choice and liking, but some people find it difficult to concentrate when reading or writing.

I can listen to music while reading and doing work. Matter of fact I do better with the background noise. When it is too quiet I get distracted waiting for something to spring up from somewhere. My children are even the same way, they do so much better finishing homework and such with background sound. Now I do have to say if my teenage son is playing his music with the growling noises (LOL) I dont do well at all.

Hi clorissa123. I would normally listen to radio before starting to read or write. But I have noticed that my sense of hearing shut off once I have given my full attention/concentration to whatever I am reading or writing.

I often listen to music while I am surfing the internet, reading or writing. It is usually a help for me to listen to my favourite music while I am writing, it makes makes me happy and it makes writing easier. My husband goes to bed before I do and when I am alone in the living room I listen to the music that he can't stand When we are together we often watch a movie instead of listening to music, and I am able to watch the movie while I am reading and writing, but nothing beats music

Yes, I always do. Usually I'm surfing the net on my laptop with winamp running in background and my favorite songs playing. Music is not at all a distraction unless its beyond tolerance i.e. either too loud or not of my tastes.

Yes, i had been listening to music since from my school days and i feel it's not a problem for me to read and write while music is in the background. I feels that listening to music can sharpen my mind while doing my writing or reading, so i can think more easily. I can even do multi-task, if i listen to any music because i feels my mind is clear and free from any tension. So, i will say, not a problem for me if i on the music in the background.

I like listening to music when I'm writing. I actually feel more focused when i'm listening to music and writing at the same time. I feel like there are less distractions when I'm listening to music. However, when it comes to reading -it depends on what I'm reading. If I'm reading for fun, then I listen to music. If I really need to focus on my reading, then I'll have the music on low.

Yes,I can listen to music while I am studying. It is not a big deal for me to listen to music while doing my important projects. But my capacity to concentrate is only limited to music.I usually cannot concentrate when somebody is talking nearby or when some quarrel is going on in the neighbourhood.

It's OK as long as it is playing in the background and not loud enough to be intrusive. Sometimes soothing sounds helps me find words easily. It relaxes me, especially if it is a mellow sound. Cheers!
