This year I have decided I have to buy alot less gifts then I have ever in the past. I will be buying small gifts for my granddaughter and one gift each for my girls and son-in-law. How about you, are you cutting down? Do you have a budget? Are you buying as much as last year or alot less. Have you decided to make your gifts?

We can only do what we can. Its not worth going into debt because of Christmas. You are doing it right with money because then you don't have to think about what to get anyone which can sometime be such a hassel. Take care of yourself and thanks for responding.

I never went in debt but once for christmas & i said then i'd never do it again & haven't. U can't buy people anything they need anymore because most people just go out & get whatever they need. Money gives them a chance to get what they want. i'm not able to get out & shop anyway.Have a good one.

You are not alone alot of people have to cut down this year. I already told my grown daughters that I'm cutting back big time. That its more important for my granddaughter to have more gifts, after all she is only 3 years old. They of course agreed and understood. Good luck to you and thank you for responding.

This year I would like to use a site like www.almsinsecret.com and help others who are struggling. As for our regular family, I think we will be happy to have a nice meal together and give something small. Like what you are thinking of.

I've just graduated from college for 4 month. I'm still looking for a job and I spend all my savings. I am using my mom's money and I am shamed of that. I dn't think I am gonna buy any Christmas gifts this year. T_T

I am making a lot of gifts this year. I think it'll be nicer and more unique. I am making fingerless gloves and I am going to sew some aprons.

I decided to just give money instead of gifts. I discovered that sometimes the gift I give does not really fit their taste so it is better to just give out money and let them buy their own gift which will really make them happy.

Yes that is true and its so much easier then trying to find the perfect gift for someone. Unless you know of something they really desire. Thanks for the response.

This will be the second year in a row that I will be buying very few Christmas presents. I'm really bummed out about it, but I just don't have the money. All the credit cards are gone, so that's not an option (and that's probably a good thing.) you can't spend what you don't have.I'm working very hard right now to get myself out of debt. I'm hoping that by next Christmas things will be alot less tight. This year is slightly better than last, so I might be able to buy a few small things, but nothing like I did in the past.

That is probably the best that you don't have credit cards. I have credit cards but I'm not using them at all. If I don't have the money oh well. I believe alot of people will be in the same situation this year. I hope next year will be better for you and for everyone else struggling at this time. Thanks for responding.

I wanted to try Christmas shopping online this year. A classmate shared his method which was to think of adjectives that describe the person he was shopping for and googling them. So far I've found a few possible and interesting gifts doing that.

I have a lot of people to buy for and a very small budget of 50 dollars. I'm trying to earn a little extra here before the holidays, maybe bump it up another ten dollars before I go shopping. I try to be creative when I give someone a gift, so it's easier for me to make the gifts more meaningful. For example, my sister in law loves candles. I'm going to buy her three for four candles [which you can get for a dollar each at most dollar stores] and decorate the outside of the candle with a little glitter gel paint and ribbon, and put them all together in an old easter basket I have lying around. I'm getting each person something small, and because my family gets food stamps I'm going to buy a few baking ingredients and make a small bag of goodies [like cookies, chocolate dipped pretzels, etc.] for each person to add to the gift. That way they know you put thought into their gift.

That is a great idea. So many people want big gifts for Christmas but it shouldn't be about the amount of gifts but the thought and meaning behind the gift. I love candles so that is a great idea. I wish you luck in being able to make a little more money. When you make a gift that is more thoughtful I think because you put time and love into making the gift. Thank you so much for responding.

well for me it doesn't matter how big or small the gift is as long as you gave it with all your heart... well in Christmas Time, most people expect gifts for the reason of giving and sharing... but what is important to the receiver is that you gave it because you want them to feel special... with that, I make sure that when Christmas time is near, I have started saving to buy gifts to all the people whom I want to feel special no matter how many it is... Gift for me is not just a material thing but an act of kindness and a simple way of saying "hey i remember you in this holiday season coz you're special"...

That is so beautifully said. I agree with you. Plus you give what you can and if you can't be happy being in my company. That is good enough for me. Thank you for responding.

I'm buying for as many people this year, but not spending nearly as much. Some of our family members are having hard times, so we're making it low key for everyone to keep anyone from feeling bad. I have helped them in other ways, but Christmas will be more about family and less about gifts this year. I don't know why, but I haven't been excited to make gifts this year and I usually do that.

I think it should always be more about family then the gifts. I honestly don't think Christmas in the beginning was all about the gifts but more about Jesus being born, family and good food. Thank you for responding.

We are buying for less people, but still shopping about the same for our kids. We used to exchange with his family, but are not this year.

Yes we use to buy for the adults but now its only about the kids. Its not a good year financially for so many. So we have to make do with what we can. Thanks for responding.

Well, for us in a certain sense it is less, but then for the kids it is the same as normal. My husband's side of the family has decided to exchange names this year so that we will only have to buy two presents for that side of the family as opposed to the five that we usually have to buy. As far as my side of the family they are still getting what they are accustomed to getting. Last year my mother's extended side of the family decided that it was better to just get together as opposed to exchanging gifts so that is what we will be doing again this year. Now, my children will be spoiled as usual this year. I started their shopping very early and I've done the majority of it with amazon gift cards so I haven't spend any money out of my pocket, but they are still going to be finding plenty of toys under the Christmas tree from Santa Claus and they will each have a good amount of gifts to open from Mom and Dad.

Thats good that you were able to save alot with the Amazon gift cards. Yes when it comes to the kids we will continue to spoil them. That is why my granddaughter will have a wonderful Christmas. However when I think about it I will to watching her open her gifts. My daughters are grown and will understand when I only buy them one or two gifts. Not working for over year its hard to even want to deal with Christmas. I will be happy when its all over. Thanks for responding.

It's less for us as well. It's a good thing that i don't have that much god children so I will just worry about my kids and some of their cousins. Children are not hard to please anyway so a toy of or a dress will do. But I'm still for waiting for our Christmas bonus and I'm not expecting much since half of it had been released already last month. But gift giving is what Christmas is all about so i guess we have to continue with the tradition. Cheers!

Yes the way I see it has long as the children have gifts thats all that really matters. This is why my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because its all about family, food and being Thankful for what you have. Thanks for responding.

Hi, lelin1123! This year I have a big list with gifts for my relatives. And yes, I think I will have enough money to buy all the things I need. I already have made a list with the gifts and I even have bought some of them, because they were cheaper, and if I have to wait till Christmas, I will give much more for the same thing that I have already bought.

I'm so happy I don't have a big list. If you have the money good for you. I would do the same buy things cheaper why pay more when you don't have to. Thanks for responding.
