From my childhood i had an weird habit of studying with the music playing at the background.I do the same while preparing for my semester exams and to others surprise i do well my exams too. I really feel hard to prepare or concentrate for my exams when i dont have songs playing. How about you.Can you concentrate in reading Books,Novels,Magazines or any other stuff or feel disturbed with the music being played at the background.

Yes i enjoy listening to music while reading but i seldom do this because i use to take a pause to sing along with the music. So i could not focus. Now i can play on instrumental music so that i will not be tempted to sing along with it instead it will give me a good feeling and be more inspired with what i am reading!

friend i am a singer. since i was a kid i've been exposed to amateur singing contest. i am a choice member and a consistent contestant in our school literary musical contest. I let all the opportunities to be in the showbiz or celebrity world because my passion for being a social worker was my priority then.

Hi, Sunny! I can still enjoy my read if there is a music playing at the background, but it depends on what type of music and it must not be too loud. Sometimes, it's not about the sound of the music that distract me from the reading, but because I will tend to sing along with the songs that are playing! Even so I think I can concentrate more with the music playing at the background than listening to loud voices from other people talking.

Reading and Listening to music at the same time is good however, it depends on what music, depending on my mood if the music may distract my reading. I like listening to instrumental jazz like Four Play, Earl Klugh and George Benson. The smoothness of the music with hot coffee makes the reading enjoyable to do. It works for me if the music has no vocals, sometimes I don't mind at all because if the music catches your attention and start singing, it removes focus in what you do. :) Thanx Sunny Cool! :) Check out my posts too Take Care

i cant usually concentrate while their is music going. i know people who when in a room with other people will listen to their iPod to help them concentrate on study. personally, i cant make it work for me. i mean, i would be swapping one distraction for another. i prefer to read and study in a very quite environment.

Yes! Music has always been in the background, pretty much of everything I'm doing - whether it's getting ready for the day, doing homework, studying, driving, working, and even reading. I love listening to music, and unless I'm REALLY into the song (to the point where I literally feel like I HAVE to sing along with the lyrics), I can multi-task pretty good and not let it distract me too much. I'm actually way more productive with music on (like you!). It's strange, but it helps me think and concentrate.

Yeah, i do it most of the times but the music is play lightly and not so fast not slow. Then, it is must to listen to my favorite singer or just an instrumental music playing could makes me feel not to feel drowsy to read as some lyrics may also gives me an inspiration to read more..

hi sunnycool, well even i like to study with some nice music running in the background, well it doesn't help me concentrate on the studies actually but yeah it sort of runs in the background and really like to have something like that, i have got accustomed to study this way, hasn't been like this earlier but yeah now it sort of is fun, i don't concentrate much on the music but more on the thing i am reading, well having a background music best helps when we are studying late at night, it is like something to keep up to or something happening which helps us keep awake and we study... this is how we sometimes study late hours during the exams, have a cup of coffee at 0300 hours and continue again...these days will last for coming days i guess...

Hi voldrox, its a big no no for me to spend late nights for studying coz i really cant stop my sleep. If at all i have an exam the next day i would prepare till 12 in the night and wake up at 4 in the early hours and i cant go on the with the music at these times coz every one would be sleeping. Thank you for sharing your experience.gud day.

No, I don't have a habit of reading with music playing at the background. In fact, I have never tried it before and I will not concentrate on reading any more. For me, it is really a weird habit because I can do one thing at a time. In my eyes, when working on one thing, we should concentrate and not allow oneself to be distracted. For most people, we can't have fish and bear's paw at the same time. Sometimes, when we concentrate two things at the same time, we can get nothing at last. It is wiser to do one thing at a time until you succeed.

hey Browser, may be you should try it once coz once you get along with it you dont really feel the pain or being tensed after working for long hours. May be you prefer to work on one task at a time but if we want to make some impression or money we got to believe in multi tasking. Thank you for responding.gud day.

I have a son and grandson that both do better with school work when music is on in the background. Homework gets done faster and grades are better. It's not like they are aware of individual songs but more like the music holds onto the part of their minds that would be wandering to other places while studying.

I think that the background music is ok when you are reading some magazines, but if studying, seems it can distract your attention. soft music maybe better than songs. no words, soft music may make you easy .

I usually need silence to study, but when I was in high school there was impossible to get silence. Not only there were always kids playing in my window, my family is also very noisy and they can't respect that someone needs to concentrate. Also I can't concentrate in a library, so in that time I would listen to classic music. That's the only kind of music that won't make me lose my concentration while reading.
