So there are many ways to cook a turkey and we all know this. So many people use a lot of oil this thanksgiving as they put turkeys in a deep fryer and have a fried turkey dinner. My mother has been cooking thanksgiving every year since i was a little girl for the entire family. She has only ever done this one way and that is to put it in the oven for so many hours. I have heard that deep frying it does not take as long as when you put it in the oven to cook, but who am i to say this as i have never cooked a turkey before. How do you cook your turkey?

Deep frying a turkey is my favorite method. I started doing this in college and have done so ever since. My family says its too greasy, but I love how tender and juicy it gets. During Thanksgiving my family makes the traditional turkey for themselves and a small deep fried one for me. The only problem is getting the stuffing to stay inside the turkey as it is dipped in the deep fryer. If you have any ideas how to do this please let me know.

Although Christmas is still far we already started to shop for it. We haven’t bought turkey yet. But I’m sure my husband will definitely buy one. No doubt cooking the turkey is his job too. As I know he put the bird in oven and almost for three hours. Then he will take it out to serve. He also does some stuffing with it. Very yummy, but the problem is just he and me eat it so we can’t finish it. So we have to throw the left away.

I know how it feels to have a small family it is just my husband and I. We buy a 4-6 pound turkey and have left overs. I make turkey soup and we also have turkey sandwiches. I will add you as a friend and give you my recipe for turkey soup. I also serve stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and peas. For dessert I will make pumpkin pie and my chocolate-peanut butter fudge. Best of luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Well turkey has been a symbol of Thanksgiving to you folks! Sadly we don't have thanksgiving day in our country and turkey is not also common here now. My grandma used to have lots of turkeys in their backyard but that was long ago and she is now with the Lord and the turkeys went one after the other also.
I wish I could cook turkey too. I've already tasted turkey but I want to cook one whole turkey just like I see in it in the pictures. I swear I would do that one of this days to celebrate my own thanksgiving too.

I put mine in the oven and let it cook for hours. I have heard of deep frying it, but I am not sure how to do it and I would be afraid that it would get overcooked. This is the first turkey I am cooking the turkey and I am so excited. I just hope I cook it right. I know turkey takes a while to cook. It is a four and a half pound bird so I am not sure what temperture and for how long to cook him. If anyone knows please let me know.
Thank you

I've only roasted turkey in the oven... don't think I'd care for it fried for Thanksgiving anyway. How would you make the stuffing???
I put it in the oven at about 325 and bake it for 20 minutes per pound. It always turns out so good and never gets dry.

I make turkey both in the oven and in the deep fryer. I have also read lots of recipes that call for grilling and smoking turkey. There are many ways to flavor a turkey too. I recently read a grilling recipe where fresh herbs were stuffed in the cavity, sage and thyme along with some orange. Let the turkey rest for an hour or two and then grill. I thought that sounded really good.If you want more turkey recipes you can find about ten on this site - http:southerngracegourmet. This is a food blog, not an affiliate site nor do I own it. I just enjoy the recipes posted there.

I've never cooked a turkey before and if I do decide to cook a turkey, I'll probably cook it in pieces and in different recipes like they've shown on food network. I like the way they've done that. I would like to make some kind of turkey dinner for my bf's folks even though they don't celebrate thanksgiving. I don't know if I'll have time for it. But I'll be making cornbread stuffing. I'm really excited about that!
