If people only want a job to be able to say they have a job, what's the point? They don't come in when they are supposed to and when they are there all they wanna do is complain. They don't finish the tasks before the shift is over and then it is left up to the next shift to do the stuff they are assigned and the to finish what the previous shift didn't do. I know that we all have our days but when we have a JOB, we all have a job to do. Even if I am having a crummy day I still try my hardest to get my daily tasks completed and not rely on the next shift to pick up my slack. There are people out there who would gladly work in order to have income as opposed to those who want to complain about everything. The company that I am with right now have a couple that call in sick at least twice a month if not more. Then that leaves every one else to pick up the slack. I have my own duties that I need to complete that day and even if I am not feeling the greatest, I am there and trying my hardest.

I hear ya, Sounds a lot like some of the people at my job.. I rarely, if ever call out. Not just because we don't get paid for sick days and I can't afford it, but because I work 3rd shift all alone.
It is VERY difficult to find someone to cover my shift if I call out. I mean I sleep away most of the day just to be rested enough to work. If one of the other girls has to cover my shift.. That means they either stay up for 24 hours or they have to miss part of their shift to go home and force themselves to somehow take a nap in the middle of the day when they aren't tired. Just so they can function for the rest of the night. I Know that is hard and that's one of the main reasons I don't call out even when I am sick. Ok, the money is the main reason.. that is definitely the second reason.. :)
but we have people who do there job sloppily and ours is not a job that you can do that - there are repercussions.
And some make up all manner of excuses as to why they think it is acceptable that they can make mistakes and it shouldn't matter.
So, I know where you are coming from. Some people just want to get away with doing as little as possible and they have absolutely no feelings for the other people and what they have to go through to complete or fix their shoddy work.
Just keep on doing what you are doing and hopefully someone notices how you are doing not only a better job but also that you are picking up the slack for the losers and maybe you will be rewarded handsomely.

wow! what a good employee are you. maybe i could hire you. just kidding. you know, i understand you when you talk about your stupid coworker because I've encountered problems like that when i was still working in the office. you just cant change them, because if you do, you ended up being the antagonist. maybe it was part of their habit and it affects not only the company but the people around them too and the worst part is that, they didn't took notice. its as if your not existing! that's too bad.

Your a good person be proud, don't get mad at least you know you are better than them. At least you know that you are an employee who do his job properly and can do multitasking or work redundancy. Who knows you might be promoted, someday. Your a very responsible and capable individual on the work place, be proud. Ignore those people who are being jerks in the office or work place, they will not grow and develop just like you. Have a nice day and God bless!

I think the worst part of the situation is when you are the customer or client on the receiving end of poor work ethic. A perfect example is the grocery store in my community. I personally worked for a grocery store as a freshman in college. I considered it my first 'adult' job, and tried my hardest to stand out amongst the other 'rookies'. In the end it paid off, and several promotions later I was ready to move on to bigger and better things. I have numerous friends who are currently out of work, and am looking for better possibilities in careers myself. Yet no matter when, or to which grocery store I go to out of the three in my local community, I leave angry at the lack of work ethic.
Thousands of people are out of work, struggling outside, while inside the middle-aged grocery clerk sits there gossiping with several of his/her teenage coworkers. No wonder self-check outs have become such a success. Several times I've even had to stand and wait for their conversations to finish before even being looked in the face. When I was a clerk we had a list of standards that were heavily mantra'd daily.
Whether you are stuck fulfilling another's work, or a customer who's experienced the industry, crappy co-workers affect everyone.
