I went into the local Thrift Store yesterday. (Thrift Stores sell second hand goods, that are donated by members of the public.) As I was browsing the goods, I was constantly aware of the the numerous people that was shopping, searching, and looking through the merchandise (goods) in the store, clothes, appliances, books, furniture, etc. I purchased a very nice leather coat from the thrift shop. I went in the store looking for a part to go to my slow cooker which was damaged. I didn't find one but I did make a purchase, the coat that I stated above. My questions is: Do you shop at Thrift Stores?

here is australia we call them op-shops short for opportunity shops. this is because they are all connected to charities that they raise money for such as lifeline or the salvation army. i go in their all the time. i get muck around clothes their, good clothes and we especially go there looking for fancy dress stuff. you can also get some used furniture, books, etc. some kids i know wont go in there because it is all second hand which i think is odd. i think its great - the stuff is good quality and really really really cheap. its fun shopping there. why wouldnt you?

My daughter would request I shop for her jeans in thrift shops, because they were already comfortable to wear. I have bought designer clothes for less than five dollars at the thrift stores, and loved it.

Definitely. In my country, they're everywhere! We call them "ukay" from "halukay" meaning "to dig." As in, dig through piles of clothing. It's great doing that because you can find designer items for a whole lot less than their original price. Or you can find items that will suit you, and make you different from everybody else.

I agree, I learned this from a friend of mines, (that is how to look for designer items.) Happy Thanksgiving.

It depends. Sometimes I do shop at thrift stores because I might find something that I like that will go great with other things that I have.

When I was about seven my mom would take my sister and I shopping at thrift stores. She did such a good job making it seem we were on a hunt for bargains and treasures, that my sister and I didn't realize we were poor at that particular time. Now days I go shopping at thrift stores very rarely. I don't go shopping at all anymore unless it is for a present. But when I need something specific for myself, I start with thrift stores. There is one particular thrift store that I visited that had so many pathetic things (poor people deserved better, prisoners deserved better), that my mom and I both went through all our stuff, and donated boxes to that particular Goodwill. I felt so good about that. I've never seen a more pathetic thrift shop than that one.

I have shopped at thrift stores before. You can find a lot of good buys there. But every now and then they over price something that you can buy it new for the same or less then what they marked.

I do shop at thrift stores when i can, I dont drive so its hard to get to one right now. Second hand clothes are great. If you go often and early in the morning, you can find name brand clothing that has never been worn even sometimes. It's great for kids clothes.. Although i think there are some people who make a money off of buying second hand clothes that look like new at these stores and selling them on ebay.. (kids clothes mosty) which takes away from people who really need the clothing!

I sure do shop at thift stores. Not only do I shop there I LOVE to shop there. I love to find unique items that I might not find at wal-mart or the other stores I shop at. I love to find a good deal like brand new clothes for only a few dollars that still have the original tags on them. Last wednesday I actually went to a local thrift shop and they always have tag sales every day. They are just random though so you never know until you stop in or call the what the deal of the day will be. This day I went all orange tickets were buy one get one half off. All brown tickets were 99 cents. I found a whole pile of nice jeans that would have only been 99 cents but I only found one pair that fit me. I was happy just finding the one though really because I really needed some pants and although they werent brand new with tags they looks nearly new and were name brand. I LOVE them. I plan to make another trip back next wednesday if possible to see what else I can find.

Oh heck yeah! lol There's nothing wrong with "hand me downs" and that's all these types of stores are, basically "hand me downs" which we buy in order for the stores to help people in need. The clothes are in either really great shape or moderately worn such as kids clothes so they'll have something to play in and not their good clothes. Many people give away clothes, adult size, that are brand spanking new! and still have the tags still on them! Nothing wrong with going to a thrift store at all!

I went to two thrift stores yesterday myself! Goodwill and Salvation Army. I LOVE going to thrift stores because you never know what you're going to find and there are usually some very nice bargains to be found. I am also looking for a coat but didn't see one I liked so I'll either have to wait or try different stores. I did get a few Christmas decorations, though. I usually donate some of mine every year and buy new ones from the thrift stores. That way, I can change things so they don't get boring, recycle and help those in need at the same time. I've bought a lot of books at thrift stores. I also find yarn and other craft material there. I think they are my favorite stores to shop in, probably because you just never know what you're going to find. I hope you can find that part for your slow cooker! You know, if you write to the company that manufactured your slow cooker and tell them you need a specific part, they may just send you one for free. I've called companies before, asking them if I could buy a certain part and they said they'd just send me one, free of charge. It's worth a shot! You could probably get the address from their website.

Thank you for that information. I will do that. I did see some Christmas decorations that I liked I didn't get them because, I have so much junk now that I really don't have anywhere to put it. I need to do some spring cleaning this spring. I believe I will because I do have the time. I still don't have a job. Happy Thanksgiving.

Hey chevee! I used to go into Thrift Stores to look around, but we don't have any in the area that I live in. I have no problem buying certain things that are second hand, like a coat. But, there are some things I don't think I would buy like blouses or pants and definitely not shoes! I do love to look for bargains so I never pass buy any kind of Thrift Shop if I find one! You just never know what kind of incredible thing you can find! My girlfriend got a really nice fur coat and pocketbook in one Thrift Shop!

I have a friend that just about lives in them. I enjoy getting baby clothes for my neices and nephews. I don't know how many times I have bought for pennies, high dollar items that still had the store tags on them. They are a great source for me when I am doing mosaic work..I can buy a whole lot of old dishes for little money..and don't feel bad about breaking them up when I get them home. I also use them as a source for candles and cookie trays at holiday time. One Mans Trash.....

I love the thrift stores. I always find a treasure from yesteryear that someone has donated. I actually have a set of plates I was able to find bowls to in a thrift store. I didn't even know bowls came with my set.

I also visit the Thrift Store in my city.I mostly buy clothes like jackets and sweaters which I get at a very low cost. Also I buy old books from the Thrift store .I get a variety of books there like novels, magazines and old story books for children. While going through all the various items available there I find some good decorative items and I get tempted to get that.As the price is low I buy the item without taking much decisions. Then after reaching home I wash the clothes properly and the next day I put that as if it is all new for me.
