In today's economy it is difficult for many families just to put food on the table.. let alone purchasing products that are organic (and more expensive). But, when I heard Jillian from The Biggest Loser on The Dr.s the other day I realized that my health is much more important to me than a few extra dollars. She said that inorganic chickens are raised to eat corn that is filled with arsenic to kill bugs, and hormones to plump the chickens up. We in turn, are ingesting those ingredients. We wonder why American's are getting fatter and fatter as a whole... yes we do have a problem with portion control, but when the food we are ingesting was plumped up with hormones, are we not also ingesting those hormones... We don't know how these hormones are affecting us. Not to mention the pesticides and the genetic alteration of fruits and vegetables. These days a tomato is not the same tomato our grandparents ate... So what do you think? Do you think that you should eat organic foods, or are inorganic foods ok? Why or why not?

Whilst I agree that organic food is definitely better for all of us, there are ways that you can eat organic food and not entirely bust your budget. The way I made this work for me is by buying lentils, beans and lots of other legumes. If you have an indian market in your neighborhood, you can buy huge bags of peas, beans, lentils and much more at a fraction of the cost of those small bags you get at the grocery store.
So by making lentil soups, pea soups and purchasing the ready made soup veggies blends at "Whole Foods" which on the surface look expensive but in the long run turn out to be cheap. I then buy the organic fruits and veggies, so my budget is about the same as buying from the regular grocery store.
I drink rice milk
Buy $4 98 pack of fresh veggies and make soup that lasts 3 days
Buy fresh beets (and cook in pressure cooker for 15 mins), cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, this gives me salads for the week, and add free range eggs.
I make lentil and onion soup for about $1 (1 cup of lentils 3-4 cups water) add seasonings and sometimes a chopped tomato on top.
I make bean, tomato and cilantro salsa and add it to just about everything.
Strawberries, blueberries, plantains, grapes, spinach and cauli or broccoli round out the menu for the week.
I switch it up a bit here and there and buy seasonal fruits and veggies when I can.
So overall by switching to some hearty soups in the winter and salads in the summer along with a couple of other things I do, I truly don't believe organic is more expensive, when you consider that a burger and fries is $5 or even a Wendy's salad.
My experience has been positive and has not hurt my pocket at all. If anyone needs tips please respond. Lets all get healthy.

Hello kjess77 this is checkmail and think that organic foods are better for our health than the non-organic one.Yeah they are now also avail at some places but are very expensive and rarely for sale.Myself am thinking of getting an piece of farm to produce for myself some organic food.As in todays market whether its organic or non organic, the vendor says its good for health and is better than taking in tablets and artificial foods. But as you know its difficult to get such fresh organic products aprt from our native places.I visit atleast once i a year to mine native places and my helth improves in no time.So its an must to have organic foods i our daily diet to remain healthy.

Modern food can be dangerous to human body. Preservatives and chemical properties found in the meals are toxic to our body. Many diseases happens when people not so careful about their choosing of food. Organic food can be the solution to this. However, it can be overprice that will put a burden the consumers. I recommend to grow it by ourselves so that we can have healthier fresh food with the price of hardworking.

i don't think so.i am not resenting those people having a veggie diet and i don't have qualms whether one should eat or resent foods specially organic one. first, because it is so expensive as our economy today are still sinking. second, we don't have enough time preparing for those organic foods to be able to meet the food protocol these days. five different servings of fruits and vegetables daily is way too high to meet our budget. so i prefer the best way- food supplements. it fills up the nutritional void in our body so we won't need not to worry for our health. though it is the best if we eat organic foods, food supplements can help you too.

I would say that it is not always the best to eat organic foods just because they are organic and they cost more. More money does not make the food healthier. I would think the best of both worlds would be for people grow their own foods, in their own gardens or community gardens. I know a lot of people do not "have" the time for this but that is were life style changes come into play. We all choose what sort of life style we want to have.
Just because there are hormones in meat and other chemicals that are used in the production of the food, doesn't mean that it leads directly to people getting fatter. It might help people get fat quicker. People are the reason people are fat. They keep eating fatty foods, and do not exercise.

When you stop to think about it, we probably save money by eating organic because we won't have the doctor bills for so many problems. Taking care of our health by not eating poisons like herbicides and pesticides, not to mention genetically modified foods, makes a huge difference in our health, especially as we get older. I think many older people would be in better health if they had started eating organically and avoided junk food in their earlier years.

I suggest you see the documentary film: Food, Inc.

The corn is just one of the things. If your health is as important to you as you say it is, watch this movie. Make copies of it. Send it to everyone you care about.
I have a problem with the whole "organic" food business. Organic simply means it was grown naturally, without all the crap that is put into everything else that is grown. Now, logically speaking, shouldn't organic food be cheaper?!??! Simply because they don't have to spend all the money on chemicals and crap to make it "super food!" Food production in the United States is big business. It's about companies making money. They don't care about what they have to do to the food to get people to buy it. Yes. You should eat "organic" foods, made naturally. Plant your own garden. There! You've got your organic vegetables. Plant an apple tree. It's organic! First thing though.....

There is a local market here in our place which sells organic foods. But it would be open in Sundays only. As much as we wanted to have organic foods and all its beneficial stuffs, we cannot buy foods for the whole week. Maybe it will last only for two to three days. Better than nothing. At least we are trying to improve our quality of life. And yeah, they are a little expensive than the ordinary one.

It is oh so scary what happens to our food. I would say go for it if you can afford it but there's no sense going broke over organics. Alot of organic food just says it's organic but it really isn't. You really need to do your research about brands before you buy from them. Also hit the local farmer's market it's way cheaper than food at the grocery store. You can eat seasonally too if you want to keep the cost down (don't buy corn in May). Or you can grow it yourself if you have the patience.

i think you are 100% right ma friend. But not to eat kind of organic food is not the good option. As that is essential for our health. And as you know in 21st century it is very difficult to find kind of pure inorganic food.As now a days the farmers and all are using lots of pesticides and fertilizers mainly organic kind of to just increase the net out come from the crops.Usage of such materials must be under control by the government. But that is impossible as u know population is increasing like hell now a days so the need of food has also increased. And to chase that farmers have to increase the usage of such pesticides and all. Pesticides have tendency to change our genetic material but not that much. That process will take quite long time. So we have to keep our self fit. For that have to do some workout. You can drink plenty of water.Eat proper low carbohydrate diet. Take pure form of neutraceuticals. That will help you.Just think that "everyone is eating the same food that you are eating" okay so please give up kind of negative impression and be positive.
