My friend just called me today telling me that she is depressed. I just said, oh!! come on, don't dwell on that thinking, go out and see people.., she said she is in the mall but still she doesn't feel good. so we talked for like 25 minutes and then I encourage her that she should positively even if all around her is not good. Do you feel the way sometimes? I do too but I just read books or watch comedy movie so that I will forget that bad feelings. What about you what did you do to combat depression?

Usually I hang out with friends or maybe do my hobbies like playing video games, or listening to good music. Either way, this does not guarantee that you'll get over the depression. It's like forgetting for a while but it ll comes back somehow.

Hey Bebs~ It depends on how deeply depressed I am! I have
Major Depression and am on medication for it so depending on
the severity of how I am feeling I decided what makes me feel
better. Like you said, sometimes I will watch tv, read a book,
call a friend, go out, or come here to mylot! The best thing
for me to do is to try not to dwell on the feelings and keep
myself busy!

Depression is one of the most irritating feeling in our daily life. the best remedy is to express it in front of anything or anyone close to you because if you keep it inside yourself, it gets more and more intense and can destroy you from inside. At depressing times , my best friend is my laptop. Whenever i am depressed, i go to my rooftop , open Microsoft word and open a picture of the person on whom i am angry or due to whom i am depressed. I then vomit out all my anger on the person and i really feel good. I have a special folder for that person. Whenever i open that folder i often laugh at myself...

hi Bebs^^;;
like some responses, i do eat a lot too. i indulge myself on sweets like chocolates, chocolate pudding/cake, or icecream. my stomach easily give up though when i eat too much. fortunately, i don't gain much weight even when i eat these high-calorie food.
other way is i go out and play my sports (which i am not so active now unless there's a tournament) and meeting my friends there would change my mood. i don't like to be staying at home and do lots of thinking that would just worsen my feelings.

I do feel that way sometimes, and that feeling last with me for a long time, even if i do something else, but I tell myself, "tomorrow is another day" and by the time the next day arrives, I feel much better, either because my friends made me laugh a lots (cause they are a bunch of clowns...)or I found the solution to the problem that made me depress. There is an old saying that say "time will arrange things" it works.:)

I get depressed alot it seems lately. Mainly due to money. Student Loans. I am drowning in them. It seems like I will never get out of this mess because they are mostly private student loans, and you cannot consolidate them anywhere right now, or find anyone who can help with these. :( I find the best way to get out of my rutt if to sit back and listen to some loud music! :)

i am actually combating depression - as in the illness.
when i am not feeling my best, i try to firgure out why to do something about it. if it is negative thoughts i try to challenge them and use positive self talk.
otherwise i try to do things i enjoy or find relaxing such as breathing exercises, visiting and talking to friends, reading a book.
it is also good to be active as it gives you more energy and releases endorphins which are chemicals that encourage a positive feeling.
just be there for your friend as much as you can.

Well I try not to shut myself off, that is the worst thing to do because when you're alone with your thoughts and there is no one to tell you that they aren't good is a bad sign. I would take your friend to the movies or out on the town, it will do some good to interact with other people instead of being alone.

hi bebs08,
We know depression kills, For me i stick to one principle in life that i think helps me to overcome whatever life had brought forward. "Attitude is more important than the fact". Remember we can always control how we will react in any given situation whether negative or positive.

I usually listen to music, eat, go shopping or watch movies when I am depressed. It really depends on what has made me depressed. Sometimes I indulge in a new hobby or go swimming or travel to see something new. My favorite thing to take away my depression though is going to the mall . I just make sure that I don't spend all my money because that will make me even more depressed..LOL...

i'll stay in my bed, either i will sleep, or just curl up in bed. i have this habit of allowing myself to experience whatever feelings i have. then after few minutes of hour maybe, i reassess my feelings. i try to know when it is coming from, what causes the feeling and how will i resolve it. but one thing is for sure: i allow myself to experience the feelings, i don't deprive myself of whatever feelings that comes along my way..
