I heard a long time ago that if a cow falls asleep standing up and someone tips it, it will fall, is this true? Let me know, thanks:)

I haven't heard of this.I actually think cows sleep lying on the ground.when they do sleep standing up,I think you cannot knock them down with one tip.they're huge animals.I think if you disturb them while sleeping standing up,they might attack you.who would like to be disturbed when they're asleep?

Speaking as a farmer who had dairy cows for 40 of my years, I must say dee (reply #3) has it right on when she said it's difficult to sneak up on a cow, they usually are always aware you are near them. They are a very stubborn animal, and if you tried they would dig their hoofs in and resist you. They sleep laying down, although I have seen some drowsy like while standing, though not totally asleep. As far as tipping cows? Yes, you can 'tip' them. My oldest daughter is a large animal veterinarian in an area that is predominantly amish farms. We laugh because she knows how to tip them 5 different ways (in order for her to do work on them when they refuse to lay down.) When I was a teen I used to have friends who would think they could tip one, and they never could. I agree, it's kind of like snipe hunting for the most part, but veterinarians do this lots of times when taking care of cows in the pasture. They just have to grab a leg the right way to get them to shift their weight and get them off balance first.

In all reality cows don't stand up when they sleep. Cow tipping is probably like snipe hunting. Away for country people to have some fun at unsuspecting city folk. Cows are pretty big and it would take a lot to tip one over even if it was asleep. It is also very difficult to sneak up on cows.

A couple of years ago I went to Milwaukee. As I was leaving the airport I bought souvenirs for my kids. I saw one shirt that said Cow-Tipper in Training. I thought it funny so I bought one for my 3 year old. I never really saw any cow-tipping while I was in Milwaukee, but folks here in mylot who are from Wisconsin might have something to say.
