Well, I understand that people loves new gadget, and they want to have the first - hand experience on everything new. It is our curiosity nature. The problem is that I don't understand how people can spend over more than $100 for the service plan, and doing something you can do on your home desktop or laptop computer. I knew iphone is cool, but people should also watch out their budget. A friend of mine always complaining short of money, but he still paying $100 over for his iphone service. I think that he should cut it down a little on that, if he only need a cellphone to make calls or receive calls. Don't you agree?

Well... It's almost like saying why carry a cell phone when you can have a landline & there should be a phone where people work as well. I understand some people have their priority set all wrong. But for some people, it has to do with what they need. In my case, I work 2 jobs & one of them is translation. I need my cell phone to do alot of things on the road. I can't come home everytime I need to check something on line. My cell phone used to be little over $120/month. If I didn't have that, I would have lost out on a lot of jobs I could have picked up. In a long run, $120/month isn't really that much compare to what I made & what I was able to do because I had a cell phone service other than just talking on it.

I didn't realize that having he iphone is so expensive. I don't have AT&T, so I can't have the iphone as Verizon doesn't have it yet, but hopefully they will. I would have the iphone if I could, but paying that much a month seems really high. I guess though, with the iphone being such a fancy phone, it only stands to reason that it would be expensive. My plan is under $100, and I think mine is high enough. I think if peopel don't need all the frills and haven' got the money, then they shouldn't have the phone. I can't afford it either, but the phone I have is alright, even though it isn't an iphone. Take care and happy mylotting.

It is my understanding when the IPhone was first introduced, Apple contracted the rights exclusivly to At&T. So other cell providers will not recieve any versions of the phone itself. However other cell providers do have their knock-offs of the Iphone that can be purcheshed.

Well I wouldnt do it but there are some people who are "techie" and that is hwo they get their kicks,I wont judge. The fact of the matter is that I might not spend a 100 dollars on iphone but then I might spend 200 to do foreign currency trading but then that is how I get my kicks so we each have our own litle release.I owuld hope however that persons especially in this recessionary period excercise some sort fiduciary responsibilty .BUT TO EACH IS OWN.I do agree with you though taht the price could be reduced since so many people subscribe but then these companies are here to make money and if they can find customers then why not

Well.... It's just doing foolish by spending $100 for iphone service. I will agree that iphone services are very expensive, but we can do the same iphone services on our home computer and laptop for less cost. So what is the need to spend much money on iphone? I totally don't agree.

I actually have the iphone and yes my service plan total is $99.07. However, I upgraded to the iphone from my old plan a few months ago...and because of travel and such I have unlimitted everything and long distance. On my old phone my bill was around 80 a month. Too me the 20 dollars more a month is worth it for all the things I use my phone for. If your friend is only making and recieving calls then yes the $100 a month and the iphone seem useless. However, I'm going to assume that by purchasing the iphone he already has, or soon will began using it for many other things. It is the same as a laptop, to me...except you can fit it in your pocket. But yes, I agree with you the price is ridiculous. And people who spend that much on cell service are nutty...myself included. :) lol

It really is crazy. I mean, why not get a normal mobile phone and pay $20 a month. I think it is just to show off and be in the trend.

I-phone services are expensive these days. I know how costly it can be for browsing or for using GPS. It seems meaningless to me having to pay so much for something which can be done elsewhere. You friend might have got used to using that feature and the tendency to stop using it might be hard for some. A 20$ saved every month can add up to240$ a year as savings.

To be honest, people often aren't very wise when it comes to service plans. People such as AT&T the service provider for the Iphone are complete crooks. They make a living on conning people into thinking they need to spend all this money for phone services that half don't even use. Their claim, the phone won't work without the data plan.
I used to be in the same boat with T-mobile and their G1. The phone required a data plan to access all the features the phone had to offer, and to be quite honest the most I used was the text messaging. Don't get me wrong I loved the G1 to bits and had no plans to upgrade in the near future, but someone took it or I lost it so I'm stuck with a back up phone. Case in point, I found it was stupid to pay for a complete data plan if all I do is talk or text.
Now you'll find those people, such as users that stated so above, that their data plans are worth the money in wich they are paying. If you need a smart phone for work on-the-go, then the plan is worth the extra money. Even with my G1, the e-mail feature came in handy, and the data plan I paid for included text, so it ended up being worth it in the long run.
However, bottem line AT&T are a bunch of rip-off artists.
Now you say your friend paid over 100? Was this to purtchuse the phone? Or was this for the service? Was he/she by themselves or did they have multible lines?
If you can answer those questions you can then argue the issue. It is not uncommon to pay over 100/ month for sirvice if you have two or more lines. Now if its the phone itself with a contract renewal then that 100 is cheep compared to what phones cost now a days depending on your needs.
So ask yourself the questions I asked you above, and that should answer your questions. However, you do not have to reply.
My advice.... if you want a better rate plan and better service all around go with T-mobile. They are streight to the point and no crap. What you want is exactly what you pay for.
