i have an ibanez gio jumpstart set and i would like to give it an upgrade..in your opinion what should i do first?
1. change the pickups? or
2. make a custom preamp? or
3. install a built in effect?

hellow...i'm use the IBANEZ GIO to...
its depend on your wood body of the guitar...if it's still young wood you should upgrade your pick ups into active ones, and with that active pick ups all problem is solved, maybe...
and i want to buy EMG 81 and 85 for my upgrade...
Hope u can find the best for your guitar that fits 4 u

hi veshgreend,
thanks for your reply.. how can we determine that the wood is young or not? i am looking forward to install DiMarzio PAFpro and humbucker from hell.. but after hearing this then i think i need to determine my wood age first..if it is young then i will consider actives but if it is old then i'll stick on PAFpro and from hell..
thanks for the information.. :)

you can determine the weight of your guitar, by comparing to another guitar.
and you can touch your guitar body and feel the fiber of your wood.
i think that its...i always do is comparing between my guitar and my friends guitar
because i can't feel the fiber of my guitar body...ha...ha...ha...

I would highly suggest you trade your current guitar or buy a higher end Ibanez guitars and install it with seymour duncan or dimarzio pickups (bridge pickup upgrade will do).. Maybe an Ibanez S470 or higher models will do because it will give you a more value for an upgrade.
