Christmas seems to be around the corner. Its disappointing that my christmas is not complete because our company is not declaring christmas bonus to their employees. What a bad news!!! I know for a fact that as an employee i have dedicated my time working 12 months in a row just to have at least December bonus. But its final they are not giving us bonus this year. I understand the global financial crisis we are encountering today. But i belive that every company has its right to declare bonus when they meet their target income for the year. I cant see the financial statement of our company but i know that it is an income generating institution. The question is why are they not declaring bonus....

Yes you are right. Bonus is a gift that's why we call it "bonus". But the fact is that this is the first time for my forteen years our company had not declared of bonus. Its really a big deal to all employees.

Hi there. It might be that your company did not reach
their target income for this year. Although, as you
said, it is an income generating institution, the income
it has generated for this year might not be enough to
suffice their budget if they give out bonuses.
However, don't feel bad because you will still surely
receive your 13th month pay for this year which is also
in time for Christmas. Under the Labor Law in the
Philippines, giving 13th month pay is mandatory to all
employers.

Our 13th month pay is already incorporated on our monthly pay. So all employees will receive only the monthly pay this december..So sad...

Many companies got in trouble with the general public for giving bonuses to their higher level staff. Perhaps your company feels that it would look better not to do so. Or they may have earmarked the money for business expansion in the new year, which would be good for you. You do have a job, and you can be thankful.

only your company is the one who can answer that question. just like you said that every company has the right to declare bonus when they meet their target income for the year. so maybe your company does not reach the target. you can also ask the accounting department if the company did not reach the target.... that is if you are that nosy. our country has been battling with a lot of bumps and all we need to do is hold on and pray for a better tomorrow.

Hi, Hazel!
That was quite frustrating. Every employee will be expecting a bonus from their company especially when you know that the company is doing well and even if it's half of the bonus you normally receive at the end of the year.
I can actually relate to this situation. Last year was tough when the company has decided to pay our salaries after New Year! I was so disappointed, but lucky thing was I still have some savings for Christmas, but we were so looking forward to do something before the holidays...

I think there are a few companies that maybe don't have so much of a need to cut costs but are doing so because the economy kind of gives them an excuse to. They know that employees will stay because no one wants to have to look for a job.

Is this Christmas bonus the only bonus that you were looking forward to this year? Here in my country companies are required to give a 13th-month bonus to all employees, and some companies choose to give a Christmas bonus in addition to the 13th-month bonus. But sadly, my company is only giving the 13th-month bonus, so I'm just like you. But the management promised us a mid-year bonus next year, so I'll be looking forward to that.

well as you mentioned the financial crisis has an effect on it, like here in our country some companies are not giving bonuses this holiday season their reason is as same as your company it would be right if these companies can explain why they are not giving bonuses and they have to be transparent also to their employees, or maybe they are trying to avoid so that they can keep their profits or maybe they are trying to save more money for next year's operations.

Although this might seem devastating for you, perhaps thinking about your situation in a different context may alleviate your disappointment. Whilst you work and earn an income, there are thousands fo individuals that are unemployed and are struggling to pay their mortgage and feed their families. Even worse, there are unfortunate individuals in Africa who are starving and are sick from diseases that may in the end kill them. So perhaps when you reflect on your current predicament and then compare this with other far less individuals, you will be able to respect where you are now. Perhaps then you will accept your life without your paycheck.
