I almost caught a virus from completing this task!

I almost got myself a computer virus by completing a task on mylot! It is the task labeled "Sign up with the paid to post site (Less than a minute)". To complete the task you must register with allvoices.com, and the site looks legit. I did this, and then checked my hotmail account for my activation email. I opened the email, and clicked the activation link. This activation link opened a virus that was embedded in the html of the allvoices site. Luckily, my virus scan caught the virus and closed the page before it could get into my computer!

Yes, I do agree with you. You have to check with all the reviews to make sure the site is legitimate or not. I have to be careful with what websites that I visit or download from because you could wind up getting a computer virus or spyware infected on your computer.

As others have suggested you should work out the info from the net first about any site and then only move forward for the tasks. But by the way can i know which antivirus you are using to protect your PC?

It's called Avira AntiVir Premium, I believe. So far it's been really good, haven't has any problems with it.

You're welcome. If you do decide to try out a task, just make sure to be careful. Choosing ones where you dont have to sign up for anything would be best, as I have just learned.

Thank you for this valuable information, I was not aware that we are opening our computers to viruses in the mylot's tasks. I'm just wondering if it was embedded there on purpose or not because if it was i think it's only right that the person responsible is banned to avoid any one from putting almost 200,000 members at risk to viruses. Tasks are one of the ways to increase our earnings here, certainly with the risks involved a lot would no longer try it. Which in turn could have a huge impact on this sites revenues. Cheers!

I did report it to them last night. I wasn't quite sure of how to do it when it first happened. Hopefully they've read it and are removing the task before anyone else accepts it.

Did you report the task so that this does not happen to other Lotters?
You can use the (!) beside the task itself.

It is a good thing that you have a good virus program on your computer. I never do any tasks where you have to sigh up for something, only the ones where you have to wright something. Thank you for the information on the site. It just might help someone else

I'll probably no longer do the signing up tasks, a few cents isn't worth ruining a computer. Plus, the writing tasks are worth so much more. You're welcome, I'm glad I could help inform others.

That is a good thing morgan! I wonder how these tasks are able to make it through and the admin approved them for posting when there are some task creators with malicious intents. Hopefully, none will turn out victim to this task
