I am really paranoid because I think one of my friends has read my personal diary because I left it around carelessly.I am really scared because lot of my innermost thoughts are in that diary and I don't want anyone going through my stuff. What should I do?

just come right out and ask your friend if she or he read it.they might lie but it will make them aware that you have an idea that it was read.maybe that will cause a discussion about it and you may get it out in the open.maybe ask something that you had written in your diary to your friend and if she or he answers you can pretty much tell by the answer.hint(if of course youve never mentioned it before and its in your diary)hugs

I agree... if you mention it, she's knows you'll track it back to her if any of the contents are passed on. However, you'll need to keep your diary well hidden in future because you may arouse her curiosity. A true friend would neither read it nor spread anything she may be told in confidence.

It is curiosity and I am sure most people would take your diary if they want to find out something about you.I prefer not writing my thoughts and feelings just because I feel them in me and I don't want anybody to find these things out.If you however want to keep a diary you have to put it in not so obvious places.

Well this can happen if you write and leave evidence. I think it can make someone paranoid if this happens. That's sad! Because it's fun to write creatively. But also scary if something out of the ordinary happens. I'm sorry this happened. Are you still friends with your friend? You don't even know though if she read it is the problem. You could ask her.

Hey Shona, your not being paranoid, it may actually be true. I would know as I know that one of my friend read my diary and I got this info through another friend. How close are you to your friend? If she's a close friend its best that you confront her directly about it. Make her understand that the contents are sacred to you and you wouldn't want the whole world to know about it. So even if she has read it, atleast she won't tell others. Tell her in a polite but assertive way that you like some things to be kept personal and one of them is your diary!!!

I agree, shona, just come out and ask your friend if she read it. I've never understood why people put their innermost thoughts on paper where it can get into the wrong hands when the computer is a lot more secure. I sometimes feel the need to write random thought and feelings but I always do it on the computer and password protect the file.

Hi, Shona!
I think there is nothing much you can do about it except if you have the guts to confront your friend about it. The rest of it, you have to be very careful next time because we, human have curious mind. Some will have the respect of not touching others' personal belongings, but still there are those who just can't sit tight without having to poke things that are not belong to them.
