ok fellow mylotters.
just want to hear the thoughts of other fiona apple fans out there. what is/are your favorite fiona apple songs? granted that it has been awhile since she released any new songs or albums, i just want to know what song made you a believer in the talent and singing prowess of fiona apple.
fiona apple first release her 'tidal' album in 1996. it took awhile before fans warmed up to this album but once the songs 'shadowboxer' and 'criminal' got heavy rotation on radio and in music video channels, the album went platinum and garnered a grammy and mtv video music award for fiona apple. she had one of the more memorable acceptance speeches in recent history when she proclaimed 'this world is bull$*it!' and qouted maya angelou. her second album released in 1999 was titled 'when the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king what he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight and he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring there's nobody to batter when your mind is your might so when you go solo, you hold your own hand and remember that depth is the greatest of heights and if you know where you stand, then you know where to land and if you fall it won't matter, 'cuz you'll know that you're right' and featured the singles 'fast as you can' and 'paper bag'. notwithstanding the 90-word title for the album, 'when the pawn' introduced fiona apple to a new set of fans that would later become die-hard fans of the artist. the third album slated for release in october 2005 and titled 'extraordinary machine' never materialized and there was much discussion in internet groups and fan sites whether this was because of fiona apple or by record company, sony records.
going back to the discussion, i would say that my personal favorite among fiona apple's songs is 'sleep to dream'. the lyrics are haunting and the melody is an aural landscape set with multi-layer of tones and hues.
'i got my feet on the ground and i don't go to sleep to dream
you've got your head in the clouds and you're not at all what you seem
this mind, this body and this voice cannot be stifled by your deviant ways
so don't forget what i told you, don't come around, i got my own hell to raise'
the lyrics above just about captures every bit of emotion known to me.
so fellow mylotters and fiona aplle fans, what's your favorite fiona apple song?
cheers!!!

My favorite Fiona Apple song right now is Slow Like Honey. I have this albums piano music and it has been fun to play. It is about my speed. The album is called Tidal. I also like Sleep to Dream, and Criminal. Those are on it too. I agree her songs can be haunting at times. And especially if I am singing them, but this is for a different reason! She sings them with finesse, I just haunt and rant and rave lots of sounds. But I try. Don't you wish you could write a song like that? I wish I could. So. What I think you'd have to do is come up with some lyrics and then a song... but the way the songs are written I probably wouldn't think of writing them like that. What is good is that you stay consistent. I am disappointed because I have trouble really getting a real good song going. They are inconsistent. But I am just learning. I am getting a feel for writing music and writing. So when I get the feel more, then I can know how to edit and stuff. I am hoping, but maybe I won't reach this stage.
