How about coming first?

Hi friends! It is always a great fun to respond to discussions on myLot either started by dear friends or by others. However, I feel an added excitement when I become the first one to respond to a discussion started by one of the dear friends here. There is always a thrill in being the first one to respond. However, sometimes while writing and subsequently submitting my response, it so happens that I miss the bus by few seconds/minutes and come at number two, when my response finally gets reflected on the screen. In my opinion, if you are the very first respondent in a discussion, every time the discussion page is opened, your response will flash and may be read by larger number of users. Do you also wish to be number one, while responding to certain friends’ discussions and does it make you gladder to see that yours is the very first response in a discussion. Please share your views. Thanks in advance.

Hi deepak, Nice to know that you would like to come first but the method you adopting won’t help you to come first (I know you are responding according the notification). Coming the topic in home page first and it take some time to reach our mail box. Those people are searching in home page may respond immediately. This is the reason for missing the first number. I don’t bother about the first number and I am happy with the space wherever I get it(lol)

Hi Sree! Thanks for your valuable suggestion that if one wants to be the first one, opening mylot Home page helps him/her and coming through alerts to a discussion, may be late. You see sometimes, it so happens that two-three users are writing at the same time and they submit the response simultaneously, however, the responses gets placed serially and the 'page' shows difference of few seconds/minutes. I know that you don't too much bother about the position of your response, you always feel that you should post meaningful and interesting response. Thanks for sharing yoru views and guiding me.

Oh yes, Deepak, that’s the child in us, evergreen ever excited and ever bursting with energy and enthusiasm (whew! ) LOL the excitement at being the first one to reply or the disappointment at being beaten to it just by a few seconds reminds us that its good to let that child out as often as possible…if nothing else, it at least it provides an opportunity to have a hearty laugh (but just see, if I have to write such a serious answer, I’ll be beaten again and again….so next time, I’ll just nod my head OK)

Hi udipta! You got the point and the core issue, hidden in the discussions.........lol! You are right that there always remains a child within us and which keep bubbling and bursting as and when any opportunity arises. Hearty laugh is very essentila in our tension free life, otherwise we are gone. Many Thanks for bringing the child in your to the outside world. I am blessed with such lovely friends that with the span of 30 mintues or so, I receive more than expected responses. dpk Did U check your my mail today?

Heeheeee.. I don't mind where I come, first or last, the important thing is that I can come somewhere There is one type of discussion that I do try and answer first - the ones by users asking for information about MyLot. To avoid them receiving misleading info from others who have not read the Guidelines or the FAQs, I try and get there as soon as I can. Other times I wait because I want to be #11 This happens when I have a different opinion from the user who startted the discussion and I do not wish to bias the first responders so I wait and go on page 2. I have done that on purpose quite often. However apart from those rwo examples I do not have preferences and I just try and get to as many discussions as I can, by friends and those who are not yet on my list but might even be completely new users. I do try and help those who are trying to find their 'slot' here and help them reach a certain number of posts by spurring them on but even then I have no preference as to when I respond. Long live the humble ******

Wishing you a very happy Chrismas and New Year-2010. May God bless You and have a great time.

Sometimes I like to be the first responder, too, just because.. you know the person starting the discussion actually reads it! lol. When I respond to a discussion with 60+ responses to it already, I almost expect that no one in their right mind would read it - just because they have so much to read already. I like creating impact with what I write on here, and I feel like our answers get lost in the mix when we respond to discussions after about.. the 30th response or so. *shrugs*. So I like to be in the top 10, at least, but it doesn't always work out like that, of course!

Hi Deepak. It is nice to be the first respondent, yes? It's rather like putting the first footprints in a newly fallen snow. And true, more people tend to read the first responses than to go through many pages of them, reading all :)) Karen

Hi Karen! What a analogy you have drawn about coming first - "first footprints in a newly fallen snow". I wish I could be the first one to put my footpritns on a fewshly fallen show. However, it cannot be. Unfortunately, where I stay, we do not get to see any kind of snow during any time of the year. Thanks for joining and sharing. Deepak

I just feel exited if I stumble upon a good interesting discussion. That is my main concern here.It so happens at times that I become the first one to respond to a discussion started by my fellow Mylotters or my friends. It doesn't give me and extra excitement at all.I just car to give the appropriate response worthy of the discussion.

Hi Bala! I appreciate your point of view that what matters is an interesting and catchy discussion, which prompts one to respond and you are the one who will respond to friends' discussions, irrespective of the fact whetehr you are at number one or not. Thanks for sharing your views.

I also do not mind responding to friends discussions, even if many responses have already come to the discussions. I know my friends will surely read my views in my response. Thanks for being the third one to respond, third is next to second and clsoer to being first.

I do not aspire for this particularly Deepak! I would just look at the discussions started by friends and if it happens that I am the first then it just happens. On the other hand I get really thrilled when I get a BR, because I feel that I have done some good work not only to my satisfaction but also to another person's.

Hi Kala! I can understand your choice that you wish to be part of your friends discussions, specially when you can relate to it, rather than coming first. However, as far as I remember you became the first respondent in one or two discussions started by me. Thanks for enriching the post.

I am rarely the first to respond unless I hit the ‘no responses’ tab because I reply to my friends’ notifications first and, because I’m in Australia, by the time I get a lot of them there already have been several responses. I don’t really mind because I never thought about the thrill of being number one. I can appreciate that it would be a little buzz to be the first to contribute to a discussion but alas...Because I’m ‘down under’ I am bound to be late for everything but the important thing is that I will get there eventually!

Hi Paula! I understand about you that by the time you get to read notifications about your friens discussions, somebody has already replied to it. I agree with you that time difference also sometimes becomes a factor or your delayed response. Never mind, what matter is your interesting response and not its position. It is always great fun to read your lovely and meaningful response. Thanks for joining us.

Hi, Lovely question! I think each and every individual wants to be the first one to acquire a particular experience or object. Whether it be here as in responding first or getting an opportunity to be the first to do something (anything) in life,we always feel nice to be the initiator. Have a great day!

I think the moment you read my discussion, you just rushed to submit your response so that you could be the very first respondent and you actually came first.. I can guess that you wish to be the first one in every field/sphere of your life. My best wishes are with you. Thanks for responding to my discussion and I am blessed with such lovely friends that within no time, this discussion has fetched 8 responses, when I am writing my comments.

Dear Dpk, I must type very fast in order to be number responder here. I hope I can race against time. It is really make me excited to be the first responder. We just type out our ideas and views pertaining to the topic under discussion. If we are not the first responder, that means I need to read the earlier response so that I don't repeat the same points again which already been mentioned by earlier responder. However, at time I do missed the 'bus' and ended up being no. 2 and at times no. 5...LOL

Hi Iriene! OH! that sounds great that you always want to be in the race and want to come first, however, sometimes, you also miss the bus because someone else scores first. You are right that if others have responded, you need to check that you speak something different from others and repeatition may not be there. Thanks for sharing your views.

What a question! Very interesting.Hello, my dear.:-) I ALWAYS want to be number one.LOL. But if referring to posting my response to every discussion, I really don't mind if I'm on top of the list.Honestly, I want to read what others has to say, if we have the same point of views.Sometimes,I'm reading all the responses that appeal to me before posting my own. Not to copy any of them but to add(if there's anything to add) to a particular response that is similar to mine. Besides, I don't have that much time to keep track of all the discussions being posted by my friends. To lessen my "heartaches", I refrain myself from that mindset.:-) Have a great day, Deepak. :-)

Hi eureka! Nice to see you in my discussion. It is good to know that you always wanted to be number one and hopefully, you would have turned out to be number one in many fields/events of your life. It is not a bad idea to read what others have to say on a discussion, thereafter, if need be you can frame and draft your own views and response. BTW, when I respond, I do not see what others have said, I just write and submit my own views and then if time permits read responses of others to see what they stated about the issued under consideration. Many thanks for being my friend and for sharing your views.

It used to be said by members of this site that being the first responder meant you made more money, or meant that the discussion owner made more money. I used to strive to be the first responder, but am just happy responding now. I do wish that the discussion owner would respond to my discussion, but I know that it can be hard work. There's so many people I still need to respond to, and I keep saying If I could respond to everyone I'd surely have a hefty sum of money for this month!

I think we would all like to make more money so I can hardly believe that the assumption would be true. After all if it was many people would strive to be first responder and maybe so many discussions would be left with only one response or none at all!

I would certainly love to be the first to respond to friends' discussions but often times i am not. It sure does feel a lot better to see your response being the very first . Although, i think there is not much difference whether you were first to respond or the last, as long as you have participated on the discussion, i think that is what counts most. Nice to see you again, dear friend!

Hi Sweetie! It means that you have a ardent wish to be the first one, while responding a discussion. However, you do not mind, even if your placing is not first, what matter is your participation in your friends' discussion and you never fail in that. I really appreciate your gesture that you are invariably present in my discussions and I feel happy to see your response. Thanks for sharing.

Well, in a way your view that being the first respondent to a discussion helps is right. However, it also depends upon how interesting that discussion is, and also how many other people check that discussion. So, I am also not too much excited about being the first one to respond to a discussion.

How different we are? You are like that kid that wants to be all over the place. I want to read thru a couple of opinions and then mull over it, and then give my opinion. I have to kind of ask myself is this how I think, is this what is right and so on. Therefore, it helps to read a few responses before offering my opinion.
