Got this from our old folks back in the province.
- putting of coins in the eyes of corpse prevents the entering of bad spirits.
- if you wanted to have a new friend, just wait till you run into a spiders web.
- a piece of oyster shell would bring you good luck if you put it in your pocket.
- look for butterfly on the first day of the year, if its white, then you'll have a very good whole year.
- go on to the park and let pigeons hit you with their droppings, it will make you lucky.
I knew that these are just superstition and there are lots more where we came from. I am just curious on what are the superstition on your place? and how it affects us?

Hi, Fulltank!
There are many superstitious beliefs at my place. The one that really affects our every day life since our ancestors is about food. When somebody offers us a food, but we don't feel like eating, it is normal that we will touch or taste a bit of that food to prevent bad luck.
Sometimes when we go out and my mom is cooking in the kitchen and we have smelled and talked about the food that is still being cooked, we must not leave until we do like the above, either touch or taste just a small portion of the food.
It is said that eggs are the most powerful food that if we want to have it, we must have it. We actually have a specific word in our language when we couldn't have any food we feel like eating. It's something like 'Touch wood!'

My grandmother used to have one. One of my uncles once stepped over me to get to another room. I had been watching tv while laying on the floor. She made him walk back around me. This was so he wouldn't stunt my growth.

Black cat crossing your path brings bad luck unless you make an x mark in front of your face and then its erased. broken mirror =7 years bad luck, standing in front of the microwave while its heating will make you unable to have children, horse shoe over door to home brings good lucky, rabbits foot brings good luck, troll dolls are supposedly good luck to which I highly disagree since my stomach always begins to feel sick everytime one is near me, opening an umbrella in the house is bad luck.

Here are a few superstitions that I know and observe. I live in the UK but I'm not really sure where they actually originate from.
It's good luck if a black cat crosses your path.
It's very bad luck if you put new shoes on a table.
It's bad luck if you break a mirror, in fact it's seven years of bad luck.
If you blow out all the candles on birthday cake in one go, it's good luck.

hi,friend, when i was studying 7th class.i had to stay in a an area where forest is near.We used heard Fox whistles regularly...from forest which is very close to village. So when ever we heard those whistles,my Grand mother used to tell us,tightly close your Fists of both hands..immediately,the whistles stopped..we tried as many times as..After i complete my degree again i went there, but the same situation repeated..i don't know still, why it happens like that..just like we tightly close their necks when they bark/whistle.they slowly.. and completely stop whistles..if have a chance you can try also..

There is this superstition in many villages in the country where I come from.
Many women don't bath or shower when they're with their periods because they believe they will become blind. Some of my family members still believe that.
There's another superstition, if you drop salt, you have to throw a little bit of salt behind your shoulder to get rid of the bad luck that having dropped salt would bring to you.
