Help-How to create Google Maps Distance Calculator?

Hi everybody,
I saw a great Google Maps Distance Calculator at http://www.netinfobase.com/
Now I wish to create one such for my site. I know that Google Maps API is free but can anybody tell me how to create a Distance Calculator which also gives us directions to go from one place to another?
Any help??
