In her interview with Barbara Walters, Sarah Palin had this to say:
"I disagree with the Obama administration on that. I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead.
And I don't think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the Jewish settlements cannot expand."

What does she really mean by this? She visited Billy Graham during her book tour and according to son Franklin Graham, "She quizzed him on the presidents he's known and wanted his take on what the Bible says about Israel, Iran and Iraq." Is Sarah Palin's foreign policy beliefs based on her belief in the Rapture? Here's another intersting article: http://jeffreygoldberg.theatlantic.com/archives/2009/11/sarah_palin_and_the_rapture.php
Any thoughts?

I don't believe that complex foreign policy issues should be determined by a president's religious beliefs. Clearly, the only consideration in Palin's mind when it comes to Israel is scripture and the thought that she might have been in the position to make decisions for this country is beyond scary. In the days, weeks and months ahead? Just when I think she can't surprise me anymore, she opens her mouth...

That's the point I was trying to make and I don't think I did it nearly as well as you did here, Spall. Thank you! I have no problem with whatever religious belief anyone has personally but for someone to be, as she could have been, a heartbeat away from the Presidency and to possibly have Presidential aspirations who would base foreign policy decisions on this kind of belief...what can I say, it's terrifying!

I think she shot her Presidential aspirations in the foot with this one. Her supporters will scream and complain that it's the media's fault but this will come back to haunt her, as it should. It shows a definite lack of clear reasoning skills when it comes to important issues.

A good number of Christians believe in the rapture.

The idea that more and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel is not a new idea and certainly not one Sarah Palin made up. She's among many Christians who believe this.
Well rest assured we still have Narcissist-In-Chief whenever he's not celebrating with yet another "I'm so special" party for himself.

I agree, irish...I'm a Christian and I believe in the rapture. I also live in the real world and would never consider looking at any situation or question regarding the country of Israel based strictly on what the Bible says will happen at some point. And where did Palin get the timeline from? Her reasoning in that comment was not logical.

Well her church definantly believes in the Rapture. They are quite the group if you look at them. However I find it funny that they support the bible and supported her for her run for VP.

I know, and don't they believe it's coming VERY soon and aren't they hoping (or praying) for just that? I'm not putting anyone down for their religious beliefs but those beliefs should have no bearing on how our country's policies are run.

You are correct Annie. I agree with you that is why there is a seperation of Church and State, or supposed to be.
