In a recent survey, it came out that out of 180 countries, India is around 85th most corrupt country. There is corruption at all layers in the country in various forms. What is the situation in your country? How corrupt are the officials in your country?
Cheers!

I don't know what survey you've seen (maybe a link would be nice), but I've found a corruption and democracy level table on this website http://www.worldaudit.org/corruption.htm
According to this table, that places the less corrupt country on the first place, Romania is placed 54-55th, on the same place as Ghana, while India is placed 57-62nd, on the same place as Morocco, China, Peru, Mexico and Brazil.
Concerning the degree of democracy, Romania is placed on the 50th place (the same place as Serbia), while India is placed 47th.

It is great to hear that India is way behind in this matter.I had the impression that our country was right up there in corruption. If the 85th country has such rampant incidents of corruption what would the top 84 be like? Corruption has not only percolated to every strata of life it has become a way of life and a necessity for survival for some.Being social parasites seems the in thing these days!

I live in Australia and it seems like most Western nations, corruption is quite low when compared to the corruption that goes on in developing nations. Having said this, I am quite surprised that India is only 85th, I say this with the greatest respect, but Lanka is very corrupt, often people get into jobs, schools, even passports through corrupt practices, which seems to be the norm there, yet seems to be criminal overseas, and rightly so. Hence, I would have thought with even more poverty, and millions and millions of more people, India would have been far more corrupt. Well its a great thing its not.
Australia is not immune from corruption by any means, there are corrupt practices that go on in industry, particularly in the construction industry to get building contracts passed by councils, there are corrupt practices in the school systems. But all these acts are very very rare. In fact I have only heard of these only once last year. In once occasion there was a Chinese-Australian who wanted to get his child into a better school and bribed the school principal, another occasion, a company bribed local council officials to fast track a building development plan.
All these acts of corruption are referred to the Australian Corruption watchdog which has the jurisdiction to prosecute offenders, they may be given substantial fines or even a jail sentence.

In India corruption was rampant in the 80s and 90s. Over the last decade it has reduced from the lower levels and still continues at the higher echelons of power. I do not think as yet there has been a political will to really control corruption in this country. If that happens, things can improve dramatically.
Cheers!

I do think that corruption is a general problem no matter to developing countries or developed countried. No country is immune from corruption. We are humans, we are greedy for all material treasures. So the difference is just based on the extent, in developed countries, the corruption is just not as sever as in developing countries. Anyway, corruption is a universe problem, it tooted in a universal society, no better way to improve it except all human are in a common rich.Even though. education, to some extent, education may clearify people's illegal desire for treasures.
