hello fellow mylotters! the net is buzzing with word that gma will run for the congressional seat in pampanga's 2nd district. all the recent events point to this one. there was a rally at malacanang palace from people who came all the way from pampanga to urge gma to run. the pampanga mayor's league passed a resolution encouraging gma to run and 'serve her kabalen', and gma consulted with her election lawyer about the repurcussions for cabinet officials resigning to run for elections. the comelec has said that gma need not resign if she chooses to run for congress. the comelec also said that they will accept gma's certificate of candidacy should she file one and they will let gma run unless someone files a petition against her running for congress and the comelec rules against her. aside from this is the fact that gma made 40 visits to the province including the 2nd district to inspect infrastracture and give relief goods to victims of calamities in the area. mikey arroyo, the son of gma, and the current congressman for the 2nd district of pampanga said he is willing to give way to his mother should gma decide to run for congress. my thoughts on this one is this... can you not see how greedy and addicted to power gma is? this is just one way for gma to cling to power and protect herself from the numerous suits about graft and corruption that will surely be filed against her once she steps down from malacanang. i laid down my cards in this one but am very interested how others see this regardless if they feel another way about gma runnign for congress. cheers!!!

I think she wants some sort of immunity that's why she wants to run as a congresswoman. She know well that after her term she will be bombarded with lot of lawsuits. So maybe that's why she still wants some government power. I got so much ugly to say but it's all just accuses. No proofs. I just hope she won't win. But she's got money. I hate Philippine Politics! I wish America would colonize us again. Haha. shadow41

hello shadow, although i agree with you that if gma bites this then her reputation might get completely ruin as she continues to escape her allegations with regards to corruption. as for the other issue that you mentioned, there's no way i would agree to that because despite of the situation that we are having, i think it's not wise to be colonized again, we have a long way to go to earn our way again to the top, but it will happen someday, not now. we will be first develop country some day.

Her administration sucks. This country is ruled by corrupt leaders. So why do you think being colonized again by US is not a good idea. I know our heroes fought for our freedom. But look at where we are right now. Freedom and good life is only being enjoyed by people with power and money. How about the poor? I know there's still a chance for this country to improve but I don't see it in the next 30 years. If we will be under the power of US again we can at least get a helping hand in solving our country's problems especially corruption. Look at Guam. Nice country isn't it? Problem with us Filipinos is our pride. We desperately need a good governance and US can really help us again just like they did before. shadow41

Actually, the buzz is now confirmed true as President Arroyo announced it on a radio interview this morning. However, I think it will be hard for her to win since a lot of Filipinos don't trust her anymore even in her own hometown. hi fatherblogger! i was on a two-day hiatus. no television, no internet, and no phones for the past two days. was actually surprised when i read the news in the internet just this morning. was actually thinking gma wouldn't stoop this low but alas, we cannot expect those with no conscience to actually have one. i read that those who made the 1987 constitution did not have a law prohibiting presidents from running for a lower elective post since back then they did not think that someone would disgrace the president's office like that. i guess they didn't taken into account that someone named gma. i bet those that created the 1987 constitution are now shaking their heads in disbelief and shouting invectives at the high heavens like millions of our countrymen.

she may win the election but i doubt if she can ever be taken seriously again by her peers in congress or that of her constituents. anyway, 2010 is still a numebr of months away. fate may look kindly upon us and strike gma with lightning and then the ground beneath her may open up and swallow her and we may be rid of her forever. lol!!! cheers!!!

hi mimiang! true that gma has the right to run for an elective post but under the circumstances, this brazen act only tells us how greedy for power gma really is. it is nothing but an attempt to hide behind a legal stonewall so that she may not face the numerous lawsuits awaiting her once she steps down from her post. i can't say that i agree with you about us not being able to do anything about it. i think we can do something about it. its just a matter of us actually doing it as a country, as a nation against the worst and most corrupt president we ever had.

my thoughts exactly msfrancisco. we have been disgusted and frustrated with the actions of this person and i'm sure that this will not be the last of her actions that will scream injustice and abuse of power. if there is any legitimate action that we can do to show gma how we feel, i will 1005 be a part of it. hopefully, those who feel the same will support the protest action as well. it maybe rallies or a signature drive, regardless of what it is, we must say in the surest of terms how strongly we oppose this latest act of gma.

i will at all means help in whatever campaign against her. she needs to take a break and assess everything that happened during her term. This will also the best time for her to finally say ENOUGH with all these EVIL deeds... impossible dream right?

hi locohboi! gma already filed her certificate of candidacy and is doing everything to legitimize her decision to run. gma and her cohorts have started spreading the lies saying how this supreme act of sacrifice would benefit her constituents in pampanga's second district. oh, by the way, welcome to mylot and do enjoy your stay here. cheers!!!

haven't she had enough. i mean, she's really bloodthirsty for power. i believe people haven't learned from our mistakes if they still want her to run. its pretty obvious that they are hiding something. politics in the philippines are crazy. after everything the country has been through, do you still want someone like her to govern us. we all know she can't be trusted. whats the matter with us?

In my opinion, if the law permits it, she should run and let the people decide. There's nothing we can do if her cabalens purportedly want her to serve them. We could not certainly speak in behalf of the Pampanguenos but as a Filipino, GMA should have taken into account the dignity of the PRESIDENCY OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES. Being a president for nine years is no joke and is enough time already to have proven herself to us that she deserved the position given to her by the electorate. Being president is supposed to be the apex of any political leader's life. After that, she should content herself in writing books and memoirs about her pleasure and displeasures in serving her countrymen. If she thinks otherwise and proceed to run, then the writings are very clear on the wall, " ITS NOT SERVICE BUT SELF-PRESERVATION" as the real motive behind it

Yes she is greedy for power and she is not contented to her term. If I were the Pampangeños I'm not going to vote her again. I'm sure that she has hidden agenda for running again.

I just hope that in the last few months of her in power, for the love of humankind, please do something good. She is now under attack again, (for the nth time). This time regarding the Maguindanao massacre. She should focus all her energy in bringing justice to the victims of this heinous crime and not on prolonging her power by running for congress.

hi jules. yes that is the case normally with outgoing presidents or heads of state. they make sure that there is a smooth transition between the current government to the new one. however, we do not have a normal president, we have an abnormal one. a particularly greedy one at that. calls are being made for her to step down but she has mentioned that she will not step down. got to hand it to her, what she lacks for popularity she makes up for being thick-skinned.

hello allen, there's always an agenda to this and it's been a talk few months before she would resign from the Presidency. It will be another controversy since she has a huge problem to deal with regards to this murder incident in maguindanao. most specially there had been no concrete arrest yet. from the looks of it, there's a lot of angry people now regarding this news and even some users are angry because of this plan by gma. even if she did run, we will have to questioned her regarding the accusations against her

hi allen, After watching different news about her possible run in congress, it made me think why is she gonna do it for?!. I know everyone wants to help our nation, running for a certain position is one option to serve our country. But, she has been in the highest position of our country already? it is something that's really weird. I am not saying that it is not right, for there are no rules of law saying she can't run for congress after her term as president. But, after seeing the news where GMA allowed group of people who support this idea inside the Malacanang, I went..."what the Heck?" I mean, is that appropriate? or is it something they just made up?! Isn't she contented for being the president of our country? If that is TRUE...then, people in Pampanga must be so wise in choosing their public officials.

If I were her, I would no longer run for any public office. She has already reached the top. Why run for another lower position? Unless of course, there's an underlying motive of personal interest behind the decision of aspiring for another congressional position. I just pray, "God bless the Philippines."

I think that's part of her dark plans of staying in power, not because she is power hungry but because she anticipates future investigations on her conduct as a president, the accusations of corruption and election fraud during her time of presidency. I think that's her way of protecting herself.
