Everyday, in the dailies, we come across murder, robbery, rape, incest, cheating, conman tactics etc... What could be the cause? Is it deprivation or basic human nature?

Hi, shobhan51. It can be both. It can result from an broken home where there was abuse present. Or it can come from a person being wounded by the heart from someone that they loved or trusted. It is crime because people feel that they have to prove who they are. If a person commits a crime, they are aware of it and they know what they are doing. It can be a deprivation that resulted from human nature.

Thank you cream97 for your quick response. You think that though one is deprived, committing crime is still unforgivable and the perpetrator should face the consequences.

Yes, it is no excuse that is unforgiven. They know their actions before they proceed to be unjustifiable.

I think there are many reasons for it. If a country is economically poor and can't provide adequate job opportunities to the citizens robbery, cheating stuff can happen. If the parents don't raise the children with love and care other things may happen. That is why In India we used to tell good stories to the children, especially the great epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Things have changed a lot now.

Vijayanth, I admire a great country like India, which has produced great men and women of quality. With its ever expanding population, India has managed to be self sufficient and has played a great role in world economy and politics. Yes, the moral behind the Indian epics has guided the Indians to a large extent. The country itself has paved the way for its millions to find jobs within and without. India's education system too could have catered for its development and helped to overcome many of its unemployment issues. There are Indians the world over who have success stories to tell.

In my opinion, crime is rising due to the unending search of men for power, fame and fortune and lack of prayers to GOD. People nowadays are becoming materialistic and less religious.

Entrepinoy, thanks for your early response. Yes, when we forget God and become materialistic we tend to forget ourselves and do whatever we want to get material gains.

Many great thinkers have stated that the human nature is evil. I agree with them, as if we weren't taught social morals we would kill people to mark our territory, or steal to get food. We need to get rules in order to act "good", so if they didn't exist, probably everyone would act in that evil way.

Madteaparty, thanks for your comment. I remember watching a cartoon on cavemen. In this cartoon, primitive men in caves just knocked women on the head with clubs, made them unconscious, dragged them to secluded areas and the rest is left to the imagination. This would definitely be the scenario today, if not for the laws--- religious or civil, to safeguard mankind from the atrocities of man himself.

Crime does seem to be getting worse lately. I have a feeling that it may have to do with there being fewer jobs now. Many people were layed off and still haven't found jobs. Many of those people have turned to welfare and in doing so have found out that it will not pay the bills. So yes in order to pay the bills and in order to feed your children you may have to turn to crime. I personally would not do that. But many people don't care anymore about others they only care about them selves.

Thanks for your response, pmbhuntress. I do accept the fact that as population increases, demand is higher than supply. This is all about economies, where as demand exceeds supply, price of goods increases, and with the ever increasing cost of living, the crime rate increases. Cheating, looting, lying, conman tactics, robbery, kidnapping, misappropriation of funds, etc.. are a few examples connected to this modern day sophisticated scenario.
