i bought a dell because my old pc (which i loved) popped the heatsink off the processor and it could not be repaired. my dell is 3.0ghz pentium 4 with HT and 512mb ram, my old one was everex 2.0 ghz pentium 4 with 768mb ram and it ran twice as fast as my dell(plus it was 5 years old!!) i am not impressed. thanks for the reply.

I've had very good luck with my HP, I've had it for 3 years now and have not had any problems. I agree with you on the Dell, my dad has one that has had to have 2 hard drives replaced in the last year. My husband has a Sony VAIO laptop that he swears by and won't let go of for anything. Good luck!! This is a great time to buy one- lots of holiday sales.
