I got a new Christmas tree on clearance last year so this year is the first time I will use it....it's skinny! My old one was much bigger so I thought it would fit better into my house being a bit on the slim side.....so I decided to decorate it differently then my old one which I used all my snowman ornaments. This one now had gold and red balls...glittery gold ornaments....big glittery red and gold poinsettias....gold ribbon running through it.....and a big gold bow made of some sort of twiggy stuff right in the center and some presents I wrapped in foil red/gold paper with the contrasting colored bow....I love it....but it took me all day and part of last night to get it right! So do you use the same decorations every year? Have you gotten a different type of tree too? Do you have plum pudding for Christmas?

Hi Jill,
Yes i maintain the same decorations in our christmas tree every year but i buy additional hangs and trimmings to give it a twist. I have a motif yearly and the
"add ons" color matters to match the year's motif--red and gold, red and silver, red, gold and silver, silver and blue and a multi-colored motif.

you are right...gold is one of my favorite glitter color during the holiday season. i used to make a christmas flower or poinsettia i sprinkled gold glitters and it enhances the beauty of the flower same with the holly leaves. i feel good looking at it. it relaxes me.

Sounds like you have a very pretty tree and much work went into decorating it.
Because I am old and lazy, we don't have a Christmas tree. We will go to our daughter's house and enjoy their decorated tree. They get a fresh pine and load it up with all kinds of decorations. Many of their decorations are little firetrucks and other fire related items. Don't believe I have ever eaten plum pudding unless it was at my grandmother's house when I was a kid.

Hi Jillhill,
Actually, my tree is always different. From year to year, ornaments are bought, used, then put away. There are always new things to add to the tree, so here I go buying something new to add to what I already have and make it different from last year.
I also have the help of my grandchildren to decorate my tree. That is most helpful, and leads to more differences in the out come of said tree for this year. LOL
I do not start from scratch when decorating my tree. I always use something from the past, so we can reminise. Where did that ornament come from, what is the story behind this ornament, etc. We have fun doing that!!Have a Merry Christmas!!

I think when I was growing up, my grandmother wanted the 12 days of Christmas strewn about the tree and not just in one place, but also closer to the top if I remember correctly. My mom, I'm not sure if she had a specific way she wanted hers.
My MIL's tree is always different, we always have so many decorations to put up which we will do that next weekend anyway. We have decorated the house, just need the tree now.
I think when my husband and I get our own place and tree I want bows around the tree and ornaments maybe a different theme every year, I'm not sure.

We had cardboard ornaments, now I think my Mil has some but they aren't cardboard. You can get the ornaments about anywhere I presume.

i have an articial tree that I have had for about 7 years. My decorations are four years old and similar to yours. Gold and a maroon red. Since I am on a 'clear my credit card' mission I will not be buying any different decorations this year at all. I love my tree though - the only that I am missing is a Christmas angel that I used to put at the top. She disintegrated after 20 odd years and I haven't seen another one like that out here. Or any Christmas Angels. Once she was in place then all was well in my world.

Yes, I do. I don't buy any new decorations for my Christmas tree, because I have enough and I like them and I also don't like the new Christmas tree decorations, because they look really disgusting. I buy only decorations for the house, for each room or I make some of them by my own- like garlands, or Christmas posters.

Personally I don't make it a habit to decorate the tree the same as the last. Every year is a different and how you are now should also be presented on how you decorate it. Its like a fashion statement and self expression of your status in life.
I decorated our tree and I decided to keep it simply red. Oh and no christmas lights since were cutting costs on our electric bill.

I have a different theme every year for my Christmas tree. Last year it was purple and silver with lots of sparkly stuff. Not decided yet but I quite fancy a really traditional tree this year so I might go for red and green. Of course the drawback with this is that I have an awful lot of tree decorations! I got a new Christmas tree last year so will be using that one again. Yes I do have plum pudding at Christmas. Personally I don't care for it much but other family members like it.

wELL SCROOGE HERE DOESN'T EVEN PUT UP A TREE ANYMORE. I know, shame on me. I know your tree looks beautiful, u are so talented to start with. When i did put up a tree & used the decorations i had for years, things the kids had may, ornaments that i had for years & i loved them all. my youngest started fussing about all the old stuff i used & wouldn't go in the attic & get things down for me so that was the end of a tree at my house. I can't get up the pull down steps so it's all still up there.

my mom do and i help her to buy Christmas decoration which still update yet cheaper and not really into expensive one. were not using the white Christmas tree and would plan to buy ever green tree which look more natural then have to let it stand outside my home with lot of Christmas light, balls of different sizes, ribbon wreath and sort of stuffs. i usually end up preparing roasted marinade chicken and pork, fruitcake, fruit cocktail and mostly sweet desserts. then, buy too lots of fresh fruits which all shares during midnight and plenty of candies for give away. well, pudding could buy anywhere sort of mostly resort to cakes frosting which make the holiday even enjoyable.

Hi, Jill! I have been using the same tree and decorations for three years now, including this year. They still look new and in good condition because I really take care of them except that a few of the glittery round ornaments have holes on them because our cats played with them, so I didn't put them on the tree.
As we use the same old tree and decorations, that means the theme has been the same for almost three years and I am thinking of having a new theme next year. Oh, just to answer your question, no, we don't have plum pudding for Christmas. Is that a tradition at your place?
