Hi. I could relate to your post. Personally, I feel that texting while talking to someone is a bit disrespectful. I don't do it. If I talk to anybody, I give him/her my full attention. If I really have to make an important call or text, I make sure to excuse myself and ask for permission.
If I see other people make a call or text while we are discussing, I stop talking. And I wouldn't start unless he/she drops the phone from his/her hand and start focusing with me again. Or worst, I ask that person to take the call or do the texting outside.

Thanks foir the response. My niece should read these replies! Maybe she'd learn some thing from it! I say this because she was texting when I was talking to her on Thanksgiving! She is the only one! A friend at work does it,too!

Yes I do and I'm proud of it. Having the abbility to do this allows me to carry on two conversations at once without feeling like I'm being rude to one or the other person. Though if I text when in a conversation, its mostly because I recieve them. Besides if I'm not with my friends how are they going to know that I'm on the phone? They don't. So I will generally text back or at the very least see what they had to say.
If I deam it important enough I'll do both, but its not a regular habit.

My nieces do it. But then, they don't like it when someone does it to them. So I guess even they think it is rude. I would wait for a person to stop speaking.

Nope it doesn't happen to me personally. But while at work people do that all the time while they are in my line, same w/ talking on a cell phone so they can ignore what you are saying. It gets frustraiting. Even the folks walking around while texting, makes a person wonder if they ever look up so they don't walk into stuff!?!?!

I don't do both at the same time, as it would be hard to do, and beside, my daughter is the only one that will text me, and when she is talking to me, she doesn't need to text me that is for sure. I am not really good at multitasking anyway, so not doing both at the same time is a good thing. I think though I did have a friend trying to text me when my daughter and I were talking, and I just didn't answer her back, as I kept talking to my daughter. Well, since I didn't answer her back, she never did it again. I really can't do both at the same time as it is just to confusing, and I would get them mixed up, and I wouldn't want to do that, as I wouldn't say the same thing to my friend I would my daughter. I am just glad taht I don't have that situration come up now. Take care, and happy mylotting.

That's RUDE! Very rude! Next time - just stop talking and walk away. The person is clearly not paying any attention to you. Then just leave. That's what I would do. Fortunately, I've never experienced this. But if someone would do it to me - that's what I would do. And no, I wouldn't do it to anyone either. Like I said, it's rude!

Hi bluepacker, I have not the slightest interest in using the text facility on my mobile and don't know anyone else who wastes time doing it either when the purpose of a phone is phone communication. Quite often if when is with one and their phone rings or ones own phone rings it may be necessary to answer it but only after moving away for privacy and first apologising for the interuption. I can only think that if someone uses their phone to text someone whilst you are speaking that they aren't interested in your conversation, either that or you just mix with some incredibly rude people.
