Should we get rid of TAKS testing in schools?

In schools, you are getting prepared to take a final exam to get out of say 8th grade, but you fail the TAKS b/c they taught you something totaly different? I think thats ridculous. If you pass all your required subjects and fail the TAKS all three times, you are not promoted to 9th grade. I think if you do all you are required, you should pass.

If I may ask is TAKS Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. That seems pretty heavy. I'm not from the area but it sounds like a total different exam. Aren't Final exams supposed to accomplish what TAKS represents?
The student isn't supposed to be the one to pay for what the school cannot teach if the student actually passes the final exams with decent scores then suddenly fails in TAKS then there is something definitely wrong. The school should also be evaluated their academic standards.

Here in Virginia, we have the SOLs (Standards of Learning). It sounds like they are the same thing as what you are talking about, except you are only permitted to take it one time instead of three. I disagree with them totally. I think that if the kids get good grades all year and pass their finals, then they have earned the right to move up to the next grade. There are too many kids out there that have the disorder where they freeze up when it comes time to take a test (I can't remember what it's called). What happens to those kids? They are held back in the same grade. I think that if the students don't pass the test, then the teachers should be held responsible. If a student fails, say the science section of the test, but has passed their science class, then something is wrong. The school should go back and look at the teacher's records to see if he/she is in fact teaching the correct coursework.
