As long as I can remember my sister has been a dieter! She is never satisfied with her weight! Like Oprah! Anyway my sisiter has never be morbid obese like me. She has been up and down from time to time. She has done weight lose clubs like Weight Watchers, keep food journels, watched her calorie intake, watch her fat grams and other things! Now she is trying the weight lose pills called Alli! I was a little shocked but then again this is nothing new! I don't really know why my sister got this way! I think she looks great! She can't be over 170 pounds! I don't understand why she is obsessed with it either! I'm surprised she doesn't drive her boyfreind crazy! Being morbid obese can't be good.then being a forever dieter can't be either!

Hello Blue. Sounds like your sister has a problem she needs to know she is a special person and nothing can change that. She needs to take care at what she is doing to her body. I weighed 287 and went down to 160 and still losing. I eat special K for two meals of the day. I walk a 3 miles a day. I am happy with what I have lost but want to be a little smaller. I will lose it though through the proper diet and exercise. It depends on your height how much you need to weigh. I hope your sister gets over this compulsion and realizes she is a beautiful woman. It is her inner beauty that should count. As far as the boyfriend there are some men that like large women.

dieting is not the way to lose weight, and continually yo-yoing like that must be incredibly frustrating. a healthy diet (not a temporary calorie count one) and lots of exercise is the best, in fact the only permanent, way to stay fit. it does sound like your sister has food issues so perhaps counselling would be a good idea too? my sister used to be like that too - in fact she got herself down to a weight that was apparently perfectly fine for her height but wasn't how she was naturally and she tended to get quite a few colds. now she is slightly overweight, and perhaps could do with more exercise, but i think this is better than being obsessed with how many calories everything she eats has. i don't bother with diets at all (apart from not eating meat but that is not for health reasons) and my weight stays constant except when i am very ill and then i get a bit (not very) skinny.

Hi Blue
I will only diet if I know I am putting weight on but then it is just watch what I am eating
I am wondering if your Sister is insecure with herself
She really should not do this if she is the right way, when she puts some on then she can just watch what she eats
I really hope that she can get over this

I think there is a possiblity my sister is insecure. I wish she just would watch what she eats and not worry about dieting! I hope she gets over it too!

all i did to lose weight was start doing more excerise, by only walking and a few other things. i feel better for it, the weight has slowly come off and i've not got far to go for my target.
you should try my partner at the moment, if it's not one thing it's another he's complaining about. like chocolate, now soy milk, chips, anything. i keep trying to support him in his weight loss but am fed up hearing about it, i've found the only way for him to be happy is for him to put a pair of pants of a shirt on and it's sits better or the pants slide down a bit. he's going back on a shake diet today, but this is one of the more annoying parts. he can't help himself but eat something to, then complains about it.
i think we all have family like this. best of luck blue.

There is nothing wrong with weighing 170, but there's also nothing wrong with wanting to lose some of that.
I hate to run the risk of sounding like a huge jerk here, but Im a male, and 6 ft tall, and my weight should be around 170. So, a female should be a bit under that, for health reasons. There's nothing at all wrong with her trying to lose a bit of that.
But, sometimes people do takes dieting to far, when I think it can have the opposite effect of what they want. If you don't eat enough, your body stores those extra calories, so you wind up gaining weight when you want to lose it.
I think the term "dieting" implies that you're not eating enough, to lose weight. Whereas people need to eat healthy instead. Eating food that gives your body all the vitamins and nutrients it needs, and then add exercise on top of that. If you do both of those, your natural metabolism will keep you at a healthy weight.

hai blue,
maybe your sister have obese to be someone who have slim body. My self is still diet programs too but my instruktur told me that we must take care our diet system as natural. If we more obese and dont care about our health, it can be make our system of body not health and get sick.

you should eat a mostly healthy diet i think, and if your diet is not healthy or you eat way too much then you might become obese, however going on a Diet for a few weeks just to lose weight does not work. you need to make permanent changes to your lifestyle rather than obsessing about calories. there are also a range of healthy weights - some people are naturally very thin and some a bit curvier but not fat and i think you should accept this. a doctor can tell you what is the range for you.

I think something's wrong with your sister. She can't be that obsessed if nothing has triggered her to be that way. Maybe a closed relative or family member told her that she ain't beautiful the way she looks and now she is starting to recoup things and make sure people will say she is beautiful. I don't know really but I have this sense that someone within your family or her ex bfs perhaps made her to be that way. Maybe it's best to ask her if someone in the past told her she does not look beautiful enough.

I have a few ideas who might of triggered this dieting obession. One our father! He is a jerk and has been know to insult me and my siblings! Secondly I know her ex-husband always picked on her when it concerned her weight! There might of been former boyfriends had something to with it but I'm not sure! Part of the reason I'm obese is because of my father! Anyway thaks for the response!

Guilty, I have been a constant dieter but I do quite well as they never last. I prefer to exercise and eat what I like. I think no matter what size you are you are still a person, its whats inside that counts not what you look like on the outside!! I have thought about trying diet pills but then I thought thqat I have no idea what is in them so therefore I will not try them.
I used to be anorexic and I was in hospital I got given days to live unless I started eating. This is the reason I now prefer to exercise than diet. Just make sure she doesnt go the same way I did!

My sister would never go so far as become anorexic! She does exercise, too. She does alot of walking. I sometimes wonder if she has trouble with what is inside? I wouldn't doubt it.

Many years ago I was down to the weight I wanted to be so I just quit dieting and within 2 years I put the weight back on. Maybe if I have just keep dieting I would not have put it back on many of the diets I have read say you have to keep watching what you are eating and doing exercise or you will not keep it off. She evidently has not lost all the weight that she wants too so she will more than likely keep dieting until she gets to the weight she was to be at.

I too find it difficult to lose weight. I have tried dieting but it doesn't help. Now I am just happy and comfortable with the way I am made. I have a sister too. She is also obessed with keeping slim. She is so thin that it seems to me that the wind will blow her away. But she likes to diet. I guess our sisters are scared that if they don't watch their weight, they might end up becoming obese like us. However I feel that it is just good to be comfortable with oneself rather than being obesssed.

Being fat is not a matter of what you eat. The best way to reduce obesity is through selected physical exercise. Avoid taking pills and the best option is to avoid excessive fat intake.

I've always been really weight/excercise concious myself. I;ve never been over 160 pounds, but I am short and have never really been happy with my build. I think people go on constant diets because they are the type of people who have more fat cells that naturally thin people, and just don't feel comfortable about it.

Dieting is a very bad thing in my opinion...If a person eats their food on the right time regularly, then there is no question of dieting at all...Dieting has many side effects on a person's lifestyle too...It effects the person a lot...Be it emotionally, mentally or phsically...I think you must take your sister to a good family physician who will give her proper advice against dieting..Your sister may then realise and she may stop dieting..take care...have a good day...

I think she is just trying to take care of herself. But she may be taking things a bit far. I guess all you can do is be supportive. You could talk to her about your concern, mentioning that you think she looks wonderful. That may help.
